10 December 2010 10:03 AM, PST | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Today, The Fighter joins the hallowed company of Oscar-baiting bruisefests like Raging Bull, Somebody Up There Likes Me, and Million Dollar Baby. Reviews are glowing — check out Owen Gleiberman’s here. But even though we’re sure The Fighter is good, we’re equally sure it won’t be able to save America from the world’s greatest villains: Russians who look like Scandinavians. No, only one movie was brave enough to single-handedly defeat the Soviet Union in the ring: Rocky IV, the craziest entry in Sylvester Stallone’s boxing franchise. Nielsen Heading To U.K. TV

26 September 2010 4:06 PM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Brigitte Nielsen is heading to British TV with a female-only talk show.

The 47-year-old actress has been offered a deal to host her own programme in the U.K. which will see her interview famous guests to discuss a variety of topics including politics, current affairs and beauty.

Nielsen insists the show has a "no men" rule and will only feature appearances from "strong, powerful, successful women".

She tells Britain's Daily Express, "I’m hosting a women’s talk show so all us girls can get together and chat. It’s about time. No men will be invited. It’s girls’ talk. There will be a lot of strong, powerful, successful women. There will be actresses, politicians and models and public figures. Women are complicated but we’re the best."

And Nielsen will also be doling out advice and helping her interviewees with their problems. She adds, "Because of the down periods in my life I am in a position to give good advice to people going down the same path as me. I can hopefully stop them and help them turn their lives around and make them see they never need to give up.” »

'Saturday Night Live' recap: Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry, and Gov. Paterson help Amy Poehler kick off a new season

26 September 2010 7:46 AM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

This past Thursday, my DVR and I felt mighty lonely without our favorite show Parks & Recreation, which was benched until January. But that emptiness was filled last night when the former Saturday Night Live star returned to her old workplace to host the premiere of the 36th season.

Before Poehler took the stage, we got a cold open featuring Kristen Wiig as tea party member Christine O’Donnell, who’s been on everyone lips thanks to proclamations of witchcraft and a thing against monkeys:

'Saturday Night Live': Justin Timberlake cameos in Amy Poehler's return

25 September 2010 11:11 PM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

Amy Poehler made her triumphant return to "Saturday Night Live" and we found most of the Poehler-focused bits to be hilarious. We also enjoyed Justin Timberlake's cameos.

Christine O'Donnell's Checkered Past

The opening skit lambasted the new Delaware Republican Senatorial candidate Christine O'Donnell, playing off of her dabbling-in-witchcraft confession by portraying her as a masturbating, dog-fight staging arsonist. Hee. Kristen Wiig can be so good sometimes.

Amy Poehler's affairs

A nice joke in Amy's opening monologue is that she's had "two beautiful boys" since being on "SNL." The two beautiful boys in question are Nick Jonas and Taylor Lautner and to them she says, "You're welcome." Poehler then went on a "nightmare" scenario of "SNL" where Justin Timberlake, Rachel Dratch, Tina Fey and Jimmy Fallon all made cameo appearances. It was delightful.

Bronx Beat

Maya Rudolph also returned to the show for the "Coffee Talk"-esque "Bronx Beat" sketch with Poehler. »

Stalloned!: A Sylvester Stallone Retrospective

21 August 2010 7:06 PM, PDT | newsinfilm.com | See recent newsinfilm news »

One of my fondest childhood memories involved a thrilling trip to a dank, grimy, old sewer tunnel, climbing in and placing my head between its enormous, seemingly razor sharp fan blades.  Of course, I was in no real danger and everything had been constructed from wood.  Still, it was an experience I wouldn’t forget – albeit a bizarre one.  I was touring the set of a new Sylvester Stallone action opus.  Yet, all was not well.

Our insightful tour guide explained the nightmarish production problems.  Personnel changes (including the replacement of the film’s director and cinematographer at different points in production) and ever-changing script were leading to severe cost overruns.  Executives were nervous because of tepid box office returns for the Stallone vehicle Lock Up.  As such, the movie’s title, The Set Up, was being changed to Tango & Cash, to eradicate any association.

Sylvester Stallone aims to bring back the old-school action hero in The Expendables

19 August 2010 2:23 PM, PDT | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

In A World where superheroes rule, Sylvester Stallone is hoping to resurrect the action man.

He's called upon old friends Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger and together they play a gang of muscular mercenaries known as The Expendables.

Bristling with such brawny brutes amid an assault of bullets and explosions, the film has already topped the Us box office and this weekend blasts into UK cinemas.

While any child of the 70s and 80s will be only too familiar with these names, the younger generation seems to have fallen out of love with action heroes.

"Every generation has to find their own hero, whether it's John Wayne or James Dean, and this generation has defined the superhero as theirs," says Stallone.

The Expendables started life as a more intellectual story, before Stallone - who wrote, directed and stars as crew leader Barney Ross - reworked more than 100 drafts of the script. »

Welcome back, Dolph Lundgren! We...okay, I missed you

This weekend, I will be front-row-center at The Expendables. I’ll be the guy with the drool bib on. Now, let me be clear: It’s not because I’m dying to see the side of aged beef that is Sylvester Stallone or soak up the chrome-domed Cockney bad-assery of Jason Statham (who I like a lot). It’s not because of Jet Li, who I could take or leave. And since I never really got all that geeked up about mixed martial arts or professional wrestling,  the presence of Randy Couture or “Stone ColdSteve Austin doesn’t mean that much to me. »

Sylvester Stallone Admits He Made Lots of Personal Mistakes

9 August 2010 8:06 PM, PDT | Celebrity Mania | See recent Celebrity Mania news »

Sylvester Stallone admits he has made mistakes in his personal life. The Hollywood actor did a lot of things he regrets before he met his wife, former model Jennifer Flavin, but is now happier than ever.

"I've made a lot of personal mistakes in my time," Stallone, who is London promoting his new action movie "The Expendables", told Bang Showbiz. "I consider my life 10% on target, and 90% mistakes. But those 10% counted."

Before tying the knot with Jennifer in 1997, the "Rocky Balboa" star was married to Sasha Czack from December 1974 and February 1985 and to actress Brigitte Nielsen for two years. Stallone has previously claimed he was suffering from a "temporary form of insanity" when he wed Nielsen.

Just as he accepts he has had errors of judgment in his private life, the 64-year-old actor admits he has made plenty of mistakes in his career. He said, "I've made a lot of career mistakes - a lot! »

Stallone's Hell As Film Career Stalled

2 August 2010 9:02 AM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Sylvester Stallone plunged into a deep depression as his movie career waned - and was convinced he'd never be happy again.

The 64-year-old actor/director hit a low point as he approached the age of 50 after a string of box office flops and several "worst actor" awards left him facing life on the Hollywood scrapheap.

He also had two failed marriages behind him, to actress Sasha Czack and former model Brigitte Nielsen.

But Stallone managed to breathe new life into his career by rebooting his hit Rocky and Rambo franchises in 2006 and 2008 respectively, and found love again with his third wife, Jennifer Flavin.

He tells Scotland's Daily Record, "I was very depressed about my personal life and my career wasn't in any great shape either. I was also about to hit 50 and naturally you start to worry about how you age, how you look and what life has in store for you. But I went through that mid-life crisis, if you want to call it that, and today things are looking pretty good.

"You never expect happiness after you've gone through a lot of suffering in your life. A lot of my romantic troubles in the past were my own fault because I was too naive and too trusting of certain women in my life. I was burned and burned badly. But I also learned a lot about women in the process, good and bad." »
