Monstrous Feminism and the Avenging Amazon By Paula Graham
On the whole, feminists and lesbians tend to treat the figure of the Amazon as a positive trope for lesbianism and/or feminism. On the one hand, she has the 'masculine' characteristics of strength, physicality and activity and, on the other, she is female-oriented. Her combination of male and female characteristics apparently undermines the exclusivity of gender categories. Her 'chastity' combined with her 'phallic' physicality has obvious lesbian implications. She is perceived by many lesbians and feminists as both 'positive' and 'subversive'...
Representations of the Amazon or female warrior in patriarchal culture, however, may acknowledge a perceived 'threat' of female aggression and seek to neutralise it. Narratives of female militancy tend to enjoy a resurgence in Western patriarchal cultures precisely at historical moments in which there has been an exceptional opening out of gender categories under pressure of social change and political contestation. »

Chicago – There are very few characters as iconic as Rocky Balboa. A few images, sound bites, or even just a few notes of a song and audiences of the right age are transported back to the first time they saw the Best Picture-winning “Rocky,” the film that made Sylvester Stallone a star over three decades ago. That beloved sports film and the five sequels that followed have been collected on Blu-Ray for the first time in “Rocky: The Undisputed Collection”.
Blu-Ray Rating: 3.5/5.0
The original “Rocky” looks a little more dated with each passing year, but the spirit of the film is still effective. Watching it again for the first time in years, I was struck by how many films that followed it have copied the basic beats and tone of the film. Stallone’s smartest move with “Rocky” was keeping it simple; making it a story to which everyone could relate. »

Fantastic Films seems to be on a roll in the horror genre as they are set to release Eldorado. A film that might be more of a parody than horror there are strippers, Neo-Nazi fundraisers, and a blues band known as The Jews Brothers. If that is not enough for you Eldorado will be shown in 3-D and show off the talents, for the last time, of David Carradine. Have a look at the hilarious synopsis below.
A synopsis for Eldorado right here:
"After wrongly being sent to a Neo Nazi fund raiser instead of the stripper, Blues Brothers tribute band 'The Jews Brothers', Stan and Ollie get offered a gig in El Dorado to make amends for a gig gone sour.
At the very same time Jessica a beautiful but despondent wife is on the run with a million dollars from her cheating husband's night club.
All roads lead to Eldorado, »

Starring Daryl Hannah, David Carradine (in his last film), Michael Madsen, Steve Guttenberg, Brigitte Nielsen, Jeff Fahey, Patrick Bergin, Bill Moseley and Sylvester McCoy. While performing her own stunts on the remake of the 1985 Brigitte Neilsen/Arnold Schwarzenegger film, McGowan hurt her arm and had to undergo wrist and elbow surgery that required surgeons to take part of her elbow out.

The film was announced in 2008 and was set to film that year. But then McGowan split up with Robert Rodriguez, who was producing the movie (which will be directed by his long-time associate Douglas Aarniokoski), and the economy took a nosedive. It led to the movie being put on hold.
McGowan, who's since got back together with Rodriguez, has been speaking about her involvement with the project on her Twitter page.
She admits she had earlier dropped out of the film for 'personal reasons' - probably her break-up with Rodriguez. »

When it comes to Robert H. Howard’s creations, it’s typically Conan that steals the headlines. In recent weeks, that’s perfectly understandable — after all, the new film just landed itself a director and potentially a lead actor. But aren’t we forgetting a not-so-little red-headed someone?
Indeed, it’s been nearly a year since the announcement of “Red Sonja,” the Rose McGowan-starring, Robert Rodriguez-produced adaptation of the popular Howard creation. Still, other than early promotional posters, there hasn’t been much information on the project, which is apparently due to a combination of Conan himself and an even greater threat — the current economic climate.
“Because of certain issues and the economy, we had to change our plan a bit,” executive producer Joe Gatta told Empire Magazine by way of The Geek Files. “It’s frustrating because we thought we’d make the movie last year, before Conan. »

Ever since the 2008 San Diego Comic Con panel, mum has been the word on the upcoming remake of Red Sonja, which is being produced by Robert Rodriguez and is starring Rodriguez’s main squeeze, Rose McGowan.
Well now executive producer Joe Gatta (who is also handling the Conan remake) is speaking up about what is going on with Red Sonja and when we can expect the film to hit theaters (apparently the recession has been hitting Hollywood hard as Main Street).
Gatta’s explanation of the non-movement on Red Sonja is that the downturn in the economy has delayed the film from going into production until 2010. As he told Empire Magazine:
“Because of certain issues and the economy, we had to change our plan a bit. It’s frustrating because we thought we’d make the movie last year, before Conan.”
Gatta also confirmed that Red Sonja will be an »

Last year a new movie adaptation of Red Sonja was announced, with plans to film it in 2008 and release it sometime this year, as the date on promotional posters indicated.
After the remake was announced, all went quiet.
But now executive producer Joe Gatta has explained what is happening with this project and when we can expect to see it hit the big screen.
Gatta said the movie had been delayed and the intention is to film Red Sonja in 2010. The aim is to release it late that same year.
Gatta, who's also producing the Conan remake, told Empire magazine: "Because of certain issues and the economy, we had to change our plan a bit. »

We love our fantasy/sci-fi women ... ladies who can wield a sword or rocket launcher as well as any man, but do it so much more stylishly and, in some cases, in much less clothing! Here are ten women we definitely want on our side in the heat of battle.
"Queen of the Galaxy" is a tough moniker to live up to, but if anyone can do it, Barbarella can. She has to deal with murderous children and their killer dolls, horny aliens, a blind (albeit hot) angel, and Anita Pallenberg as an eyepatch wearing assassin who Really wants to get to know her. Best of all, she shows us the proper way to strip in zero gravity, and you can see it Here, in one of the greatest (and mildly Nsfw) openings in film history. »
