Review: Pete finds unexpected love as 'Horace and Pete' enters 'Act Two'

Review: Pete finds unexpected love as 'Horace and Pete' enters 'Act Two'
Some thoughts on the latest episode of Horace and Pete coming up just as soon as we let the wine breathe... So what differentiates Horace and Pete's second act from its first? Alan Alda and Jessica Lange are still listed in the cast credits, after all (though Marsha could certainly return), and previous installments had already made clear that, as with Louie, an episode of this show can be about anything, and feel completely different from any of the ones before it. But some time has passed since Uncle Pete's funeral. Sylvia's hair is gone from cancer treatments, and she appears to be living with Horace — and, thus, reluctantly going along with his plan for the three of them to run the bar. And Pete, who's at the center of everything, is feeling healthy enough to give online dating a try, and is surprised — and, in a nice twist,

Cindy Crawford is opening up about her past marriage to Richard Gere, admitting that 20 years after their divorce, the actor has become "like a stranger" to her. The supermodel was 26 when she tied the knot with the then 42-year-old Gere in 1991. The couple officially split four years later, in 1995. Asked if Crawford, now 49, is still on good terms with the Pretty Woman star,

‘Licence to Kill’ brings a modern edge to the character

  • SoundOnSight
Licence to Kill

Directed by John Glen

Screenplay by Michael G. Wilson and Richard Maibaum

UK, 1989

With the release of Skyfall this month, critics have cited the major departures from the Bond formula taken by that film. They credit Daniel Craig for bringing a modern edge to a character that had become ridiculous in the Brosnan years. It’s easy to forget that similar claims were made about Timothy Dalton back in the late ‘80s. The classically trained actor brought grace to the role with his first appearance in 1987’s The Living Daylights. That film retained the look and feeling of the Roger Moore films while starting the shift towards a more realistic hero. The change became a lot more dramatic in Dalton’s second outing two years later. Licence to Kill pared down the excesses of the typical Bond film and crafted a more personal tale of revenge. While

Countdown to Spectre – Licence to Kill

Ricky Church continues his countdown to Spectre with a review of Licence to Kill

Timothy Dalton’s time as James Bond is short-lived as he makes his final appearance in his second film. Though his run was brief, Dalton cements his characterization as Bond in Licence to Kill, one of the best and darkest films in the whole series that focuses a great deal on Bond’s character. While he’s as cool as ever, Bond is also quite vulnerable after seeing his best friend go through a terrible tragedy, one he’s all too familiar with, and sets out on a personal mission for revenge that puts his License to Kill to excellent use.

On the day of Felix Leiter’s wedding, he and Bond capture drug cartel lord Franz Sanchez and put him behind bars. However, Sanchez’s influence is long and he almost immediately escapes and pays

Lauren Hutton: The Hollywood Flashback Interview

I interviewed model/actress Lauren Hutton in late 2007 at her home in Venice, CA. Hutton greeted me wearing a gingham workshirt, battered jeans and no make-up, hair pulled back. She was and is one of the most beautiful humans I've ever had the pleasure of laying eyes on. A sharp mind and tough core resided within, which I quickly found out as our conversation flowed and the hours passed. As she bid me good-night, she handed me a manila envelope. I opened it when I arrived home. Inside, the recent issue of Big Magazine that was done as a tribute to her remarkable career. That magazine, and her inscription, remains one of my most treasured mementos.

James Bond 007: revisiting Licence To Kill

  • Den of Geek
Before Casino Royale took James Bond down a darker path, there was Timothy Dalton's final 007 outing, Licence To Kill...

So this is the anti-Bond. Stripped of the requisite wit and mischief. Short of temper, heavy of touch. The SPECTREs of yore replaced by a drugs cartel. World domination downgraded to a heroin monopoly. Glamour smothered by grit. Joy drowned in the bloodshed. The icon of British cinema reduced to an American cop show – MI6 Vice, Hawaii 007 – timeless style swamped by the vulgarity and cash of the late-1980s, a case of ‘Sayonara, Mr Bond’ and everything you stand for. Derivative, needlessly violent, no identity, no soul – it’s just Not Bond, dammit! All nonsense, of course. The open-minded know this brutal, brilliant outing is about as good as the series can get.

The Villain: Franz Sanchez is unquestionably the great forgotten villain of the franchise. He possesses all the vital characteristics: charm,

Gere turns up the heat by Richard Mowe

Gere: 'I feel that the guy on the street is closer to the real me than the guy in the tuxedo. I have never been a billionaire but I have been homeless'

A perspiring Richard Gere vowed today that he had no idea the Czech Republic was going to be so hot. He claimed it was was “like the Equator or Ecuador”. Sipping from a cup of green tea along with some mineral water, his range of topics at a media encounter ran from his stage appearance in the controversial gay play Bent, keeping his life and work in balance and cinema for senior audiences, to working with director Terrence Malick and his friendship with the Dalai Lama.

Gere has espoused Buddhism since his early 20s and says his faith is vital in his life. Although he has kept company with some of the most glamorous women in Hollywood including former supermodel Cindy Crawford,
