Juliette Lewis has performed a live concert in a Lancashire library. The Hollywood actress and rock singer played the gig on July 13 between the audiobook and DVD sections of Morecambe Library as part of the 'Get It Loud In Libraries' initiative. Lewis told the BBC: "I've been thinking about this show for weeks actually. Just the idea of having a rock 'n' roll show in a library is very funny. "It's doing what you're not supposed to do, making noise in quiet places. I love (more)

The film centers on Bliss Cavendar (played by Ellen Page), a Texas teenager who finds a way of dealing with her misery after she discovers a roller derby league in Austin.
Barrymore, Jimmy Fallon, Marcia Gay Harden, Juliette Lewis, Kristen Wiig and Zoe Bell co-star in the film, which is set for release Oct. 9, 2009.

There was a rumor going around that Drew Barrymore was in the running to direct Eclipse, not only a breath-saving gum but also the third movie in the Twilight series. It's not happening, but Drew didn't deny her interest. You see, she's a filmmaker now. Her theatrical debut is Whip It!, a roller derby movie with Ellen Page.
Barrymore the producer hired Shauna Cross to write the script based on her novel about one girl's discovery of a roller derby league in Austin, which she joins to escape her humdrum small town life. USA Today published a new set of photos from the film, which co-stars Drew, Kristen Wiig, Zoe Bell, and Juliette Lewis, who really is that weird.

From Hollywood Crush: If you’ve never been to a roller-derby match before, get ready to be intrigued by this crop of new photos from Drew Barrymore’s directorial debut, “Whip It.” USA Today brings us the exclusive images, which feature Drew, Ellen Page, Kristen Wiig and Zoe Bell as members of the Girl Scout-themed team “Hurl Scouts.” There are also some shots of the movie’s villain, played by Juliette Lewis, who leads the Catholic schoolgirl-themed rival team, “Holy Rollers.”
Based on the young adult novel “Derby Girl,” the plot of “Whip It” focuses on Ellen’s character, a teenage runaway, who lies about her age and joins up with a roller-derby league in Austin, Texas. Going by the alias “Babe Ruthless,” she skates alongside her new mentor, “Maggie Mayhem” (Kristen), as well as “Smashley Simpson” (Drew), “Bloody Holly” (Zoe) and other tough ladies with similarly badass nicknames.

Drew Barrymore is stepping behind the camera for the first time in her tenured career to helm Whip It, a roller-derby comedy. Whip It stars Ellen Page as a typical rebellious and general pain in the ass teenager who, much to her mother's dismay, joins a roller-derby league and learns valuable life lessons. Barrymore co-stars along with Juliette Lewis, Alia Shawkat, and Zoe Bell. USA Today has revealed the first image from Whip It which I've partially included below. Head on over to USA Today to view the entire image and read a couple Barrymore quotes. Whip It will arrive in theaters on October 9 with the first teaser trailer likely to drop before this month is out.

Call it Juno on Wheels. The first image of Ellen Page in the upcoming roller derby flick Whip It has been released, showing her strapped into a girl scout uniform as she skates around a track with Drew Barrymore and Kristen Wiig. The photo above, and several others, can be viewed at USA Today (additionally, check out two extra images below)
The film represents Barrymore's directorial debut. Page stars as 17-year-old Bliss Cavendar, who is tired of competing in beauty pageants at the insistence of her mother (Marcia Gay Harden). She rebels by joining the Hurl Scouts, a women's roller derby team in Austin, Texas, and finds her true calling -- or, at least, a good place to unleash some pent-up aggression. Barrymore skates with the Scouts, as does Saturday Night Live's Wiig and the great Zoe Bell (Death Proof). Juliette Lewis is described as the villain of the piece,

Not to be that guy or anything, but I think we all know that Film School Rejects has been covering Drew Barrymore's upcoming directorial debut Whip It! since the very beginning. In fact, we were the ones who broke the story about Ellen Page playing the lead role all the way back in January of 2008. So today, as we now see that USA Today has released the film's first batch of official photos, we are more than excited -- we're ready to whip it. The film follows the story of Bliss Cavendar (Page), a 17-year-old Texan who hates the beauty pageants her mother forces her to participate in, and finds release for her secret aggressive side by joining the underground world of roller derby. There she joins up with a group of badass chicks known as the "Hurl Scouts," who can be seen in the photo above. Also included in the USA Today photo gallery are

USA Today has published the first set of photos from Fox Searchlight's "Whip It!". Providing a peek at how the cast will be seen in the movie, the pictures give out Drew Barrymore as Smashley Simpson, Ellen Page as Babe Ruthless, Kristen Wiig as Maggie Mayhem and Juliette Lewis as the villain Iron Maven.
Seven of the eight images expose captures from the new roller-derby comedy. Some of the photos display an individual shot of several cast members, while one is a group shot of the good team Hurl Scouts and another one sees few of the baddie team Holy Rollers. Aside from the seven pics, USA Today has also included one photo of Drew getting herself behind the camera and directing.
In the article accompanying the photos, the publication let out its interview with Drew who is making her directing debut through this project. "I've been putting everything into a piggy bank,

I'm not trying to over-hype this, the title is actually Whip It! with the excalamation point, just like Steven Soderbergh's The Informant!. Our friends at USA Today have debuted a very badass batch of photos from Whip It!, the roller derby movie starring Ellen Page, Drew Barrymore, Juliette Lewis, Kristen Wiig, and Zoe Bell that is directed by Barrymore as well. I've been waiting to see something from this! "Ellen Page plays a 17-year-old Texas girl named Bliss Cavendar, who hates the beauty pageants her mother makes her compete in and finds a release for her secret aggressive side by joining the underground world of roller derby." "Everything I've learned throughout my whole life has been going into this piggy bank, and I just smashed it all over the floor for this one," Barrymore explains about her experiences starring in movies like E.T. and producing other movies before making

Fox Searchlight has released the first photos from Drew Barrymore's directorial debut Whip It in today's issue of USA Today. Based on the book Derby Girl by Shauna Cross, the film stars Ellen Page as Bliss Cavendar, "an indie-rock loving misfit" who finds a way of dealing with her small-town misery after she discovers a roller derby league in nearby Austin Texas. More photos after the jump. As you can see in the photo above, Page's team is cleverly named the Hurl Scouts. Page skates under the name Babe Ruthless, Kristen Wiig plays Maggie Mayhem, and Drew Barrymore's character is named Smashley Simpson. I love the names of the derby members and teams. Its like old school pro wrestling. Zoe Bell (skate name: Bloody Holly) and Eve play for the Hurl Scout's rivals, the schoolgirl-themed Holy Rollers, which is led by Juliette Lewis (skate name: Iron Maven). Maven

When a film like “Public Enemies” comes out, it seems awfully good to be a gangster. Sure, you spend your life dodging the authorities, but you spend it with the fastest cars, the most stylish clothes and the sexiest women.
Face it, ladies… we’re suckers for the bad boy – especially if he’s using some of those ill-gotten gains to buy expensive presents. If you’re looking for a few good gangsters to hang out after you’re done with Johnny Depp’s John Dillinger, look no further than these five.
Henry Hill in “Goodfellas”
“As far back as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to be a gangster.” Any list of top-line movie wiseguys has to begin with that quote. Henry Hill’s (Ray Liotta) rise through and fall from the Lucchese crime family is one of director Martin Scorsese’s crowning achievements. The first half of

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Forbes announced Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston as the biggest female moneymakers in Hollywood this past year. Many people are, of course, already taking note of the Brad Pitt connection. From June 2008 to June 2009 Jolie pulled in $27 million, while Aniston earned $25 million.
Jolie's big paycheck comes courtesy of Wanted, which grossed $341 million worldwide, and an advance for her role as a CIA agent in Phillip Noyce's upcoming Salt. Aniston's money comes from box-office winner Marley & Me, as well as her role in SmartWater commercials. She also received an advance for The Baster, where she will star alongside Juliette Lewis, Jason Bateman, and Jeff Goldblum.
Completing the top 10 are Meryl Streep, Sarah Jessica Parker, Cameron Diaz, Sandra Bullock, Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Drew Barrymore, and Renée Zellweger.
THR also noted that the $183 million earned by the Top 10 women falls well short of the $393 million taken in by the Top 10 men.

As you may know, the annual Forbes 100 is out. This 'Celebrity 100' list is also referred to as "World's Most Powerful Celebrities". Which... well, I wonder. The list ranks the celebrities based on their media visibility and earning power. Media + income = power. All lists are subjective but it seems strange to assume that visibility equals power. It can but I doubt it automatically does. Is Lindsay Lohan a powerful person because the paparazzi follow her around? If so, what does she hold sway over... legging trends? Can she get movies greenlit? She didn't make the list but it's just an example.
Another funny/strange thing: It only goes to show you that becoming enormously popular at one time in history can keep you on these lists in perpetuity. Witness the staying power of Sandra Bullock and Harrison Ford on lists such as these.
Here are Forbes top movie actresses...

While we eagerly await the arrival of the first full trailer for Tarik Saleh’s animated scifi Metropia - a film that I can assure you easily lives up to its early promise - we do have the first poster art to share with you. Or, at least I assume this will match the poster art as it’s actually the artwork that was used on sales flyers for the film in the Cannes Marche Du Film.
Metropia is taking place in a not-so-distant, terrifying Europe. The world is running out of oil and the net of undergrounds has been connected, creating a gigantic web underneath Europe. Roger from Farsta (a suburb of Stockholm) tries to stay away from the underground. He thinks it’s unpleasant and he sometimes hear strange voices in is head.
One day Roger finds out that his life is controlled in every detail. He tries to break free.

It's not even summer and I was already anticipating next fall because that's when Jennifer's Body will be in theaters.
Yes, I still want to see the Diablo Cody-penned sexy horror film, despite star Megan Fox's recent, uh, misstep.
And now I have even more reason to look forward to leaves on trees: Whip It! has been given an October release date.
Ellen Page with the L.A. Derby Dolls' Axes of Evil
I've been patiently awaiting official news on the roller derby film starring Ellen Page since I first heard it was even in the works. And since she's become a huge fan of derby and seen out at bouts and talking it up in interviews, I have a feeling watching her around the rink is going to be extremely fun.
