35 years after winning an Academy Award for “Ordinary People,” Timothy Hutton found creative heaven with writer and producer John Ridley (“12 Years A Slave”).  ABC won’t be bringing Ridley’s anthology drama series “American Crime” back next year, but for three seasons it provided Hutton with the sort of rich, complex characters any actor would dream of playing.  Hutton took the ball Ridley rolled out and ran with it earning an Emmy nomination in 2015 and barely missing the cut last year.

‘American Crime,’ ‘Secrets and Lies’ Canceled at ABC

American Crime” and “Secrets and Lies” have both been canceled after three and two seasons respectively at ABC.

American Crime” was an anthology series created by executive producer John Ridley and starring Regina King, Felicity Huffman, Timothy Hutton, Lili Taylor and Richard Cabral, among many others. Each season explored issues of race, class, and gender, and those who are affected most by them in American society. Michael J. McDonald also served as executive producer. The series was produced by ABC Studios.

The series failed to make any significant impact in the ratings but was an awards contender throughout its run, with King winning multiple Emmys for her role on the show. In total, the series was nominated for 14 Emmys.

ABC has released the episode description for its American Crime TV show's season three finale. The question remains: will this also be the TV series finale? Executive producer Michael McDonald previously said if the crime anthology is renewed for a fourth season, it will focus on women in the workplace and sexual harassment. Simply marvelous news for acolytes of Amy Sherman-Palladino: Amazon is moving forward with the Gilmore Girls creator’s dramedy The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, handing the very well-received project an unprecedented  two-season series order.

The pilot debuted on Amazon on March 17 and garnered an average customer rating of 4.8, with 92 percent 5-star reviews.

Steve Carell’s Drama ‘Beautiful Boy’ Casts Christian Convery

Christian Convery has been cast to play Steve Carell’s youngest son and Timothee Chalamet’s brother in “Beautiful Boy.”

The Amazon Studios drama is being produced by Brad Pitt’s Plan B banner. “Beautiful Boy” is based on David Sheff’s book “Beautiful Boy: A Father’s Journey Through His Son’s Addiction,” as well as Nic Sheff’s “Tweak: Growing Up on Methamphetamines,” about Sheff’s drug addiction and its impact on his family.

Chalamet portrays Nic Sheff, while Convery plays Jasper Sheff, a happy seven-year-old who must deal with the serious effects drug addiction has on an older brother whom he adores. Chalamet starred in Luca Guadagnino’s “Call Me by Your Name,” which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and will be released later this year by Sony Classics.

Variety reported in 2015 that Felix van Groeningen (“The Broken Circle Breakdown”) was initially attached to direct the movie. »

The multiyear deal, an extension of the 2013 pact between the two companies, will continue to make Amazon Prime Video the only premium subscription service for all upcoming A24 films. However, the content agreement covers only the U.S. — so Prime Video members elsewhere won’t have access to the movies as part of their subscription.

Its been a little while since we’ve heard anything about Amazon’s Jack Ryan based on Tom Clancy’s character and stories – the last being Mortem Tyldum hired to direct the pilot in January – but we’ve now got an update on the upcoming series.

Actor Timothy Hutton, known for Leverage and American Crime, has been cast in a recurring role as Singer, the CIA’s Deputy Director of Operations.

Jack Ryan stars The Office‘s John Krasinski as the title character just as he’s joined the CIA as an analyst. The series will see him uncover a pattern in terrorist communications that puts him at the centre of a terrorist plot that could destabilize the entire world. Jack Ryan comes from Lost‘s Carlton Cuse and Fringe‘s Graham Roland. Roland wrote the pilot based on a story he and Cuse developed and both will act as executive producers. »
