The director of Keith Richards: Under the Influence and together with Robert Gordon, the Gore Vidal and William F Buckley Jr Best Of Enemies documentary, gave me some insight on what Keith and Yo-Yo have in common. Yo-Yo shares a moment he loves with Cristina Pato in The Music Of Strangers and confirms his fondness of Ts Eliot.

2016 Emmy Contenders: Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy

7 June 2016 2:00 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Emmy voters love Allison Janney, who already has a total of six statuettes for her work on three different shows — “The West Wing,” “Mom” and “Masters of Sex.” Janney looks to be a sure thing to land a third consecutive nomination for her work on “Mom” this year, having won the last two years in a row.

Can anyone overtake Janney? Perhaps previous winner Julie Bowen, who continues to score nominations even when other “Modern Family” co-stars have dropped off the list. If there’s a surge of love for the former champ, her co-star Sofia Vergara could also score another nomination.

There are plenty of previous nominees who have yet to win, including Mayim Bialik (“The Big Bang Theory”), Anna Chlumsky (“Veep”), Gaby Hoffmann (“Transparent”), Jane Krakowski (“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”) and Niecy Nash (“Getting On”). Hoffmann’s co-stars Judith Light and Amy Landecker also had standout years, while HBO »

Judith Light Talks ‘Transparent’ Season 2 Bathtub Scene

3 June 2016 10:30 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Judith Light’s Shelly Pfefferman was already one of the most enjoyable parts of “Transparent” season one, and the Amazon dramedy’s second season only gave Light more room to explore the lovably meddling mama. But her standout moment came — excuse the pun — early, when Shelly and her ex, Maura [Jeffrey Tambor], share a steamy encounter in the bathroom. On the page it looked like a daunting task, but the intimacy was crucial to the story. As usual, Light pulls the scene off with aplomb. “It took so much for me to get there not only personally and internally,” Light says. “The support that I got was so huge and so incredible.”

'Wake Up': Check Out Spike Lee's Campaign Video For Bernie Sanders

19 April 2016 7:20 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Today are the New York primaries in the ongoing, grueling race toward the 2016 U.S. election. While the Republicans are headed toward what promises to be a contentious convention to pick their nominee, the Democrats find Hilary Clinton and Bernie Sanders locked in a heated battle. And both have turned to celebrities for an extra push. Clinton recently had an expensive, fancy pants fundraiser thrown by George Clooney, while Sanders hit the stage at Coachella over the weekend to introduce rappers Run The Jewels, and that's not all. Sanders now has a new campaign video directed by none other than Spike Lee. Featuring Dr. Cornel West, Susan Sarandon, Tessa Thompson, Alan Cumming, Gaby Hoffman, Rosario Dawson, and Harry Belafonte, the promo highlights the key cornerstones of Sanders' platform: a living wage, free education, and taking big money out of politics. Meanwhile, the celebrity endorsements drive home the argument that Sanders »

Watch: Spike Lee Urges Voters to “Wake Up” In Promotional Charge for Bernie Sanders

18 April 2016 11:37 AM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

If you’re at all connected to the contemporary world — and since you’re reading a film-centered publication, I’ll assume that’s a “yes” — and have any political interests, there’s a pretty strong chance you have some opinion of Bernie Sanders. Whether he’s leading a revolution for the people, a spittle-flecked nut capturing the attention of an easily swayed and overly reactionary generation, somewhere between those spaces, or not emblematic of any of them — the list goes on and on — he’s caught your attention.

To the surprise of precisely zero people, this progressive politician who proudly touts his Brooklyn roots has earned the favor of Spike Lee — so much so, in fact, that the filmmaker’s created a five-minute campaign ad. We’re not posting this as an endorsement of Sanders — who, exactly, even needs to know how any of us are leaning? — but because it »
