At this point it's common knowledge that go-go star Chuck Brown and jazz musician Duke Ellington hail from D.C. But did you know iconic actress Goldie Hawn is from Silver Spring, Md., or that Nirvana drummer and Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl grew up in Springfield, Va.?
We all know there are many talking heads and politicians that move to the District for work and celebrities from all over descend on the city for the annual White House Correspondents Dinner, but along the way, those who grew up or were born in the Washington metro area get lost in that mix.
So we've put together a slideshow of celebrities that you perhaps you didn't know are natives of the Dmv:
And if you can't get enough D.C. celebs, check out Bigwig Digs, a website dedicated to taking snapshots and chronicling the locations of the residences of famous D. »

Kate Hudson continues to prove why her kids are just the coolest. The mother-of-two's son Ryder was spotted with grandma Goldie Hawn in Malibu Saturday, where the adorable 9-year-old was snapped showing off his new pink and blue 'do. The big brother to baby Bingham clearly had a lot of energy saved up for the Saturday outing, sprinting around the Cross Creek center as Goldie kept a watchful eye on her grandchild. Grandpa Kurt Russell was also present for the family outing, although mama Kate was nowhere in sight. Despite Ryder—whose father is Hudson's ex-hubby Chris Robinson—being just shy of his double digit years, the former couple's son is no stranger to »

Into the Woods movie: Chris Pine and Jake Gyllenhaal singing? (photo: Chris Pine Star Trek Into Darkness) Chris Pine (Star Trek Into Darkness) and Jake Gyllenhaal (Brokeback Mountain) — maybe, possibly, who knows — to be featured in a musical directed by Rob Marshall. Sounds weird? Well, why? If Russell Crowe can be cast as a mumbling — ahem, singing — Javert in Tom Hooper’s Les Misérables, why can’t Captain Kirk and the Prince of Persia demonstrate their singing talents (or lack thereof) in Marshall’s movie adaptation of the 1987 Broadway hit Into the Woods? Johnny Depp and Meryl Streep have already been cast in Into the Woods, to be released by the Walt Disney Studios sometime this decade. And only yesterday it was announced that Tony winner James Corden (Two Guvnors) would join the Into the Woods ensemble as well. According to The Hollywood Reporter, no contract negotiations have taken place as yet, »

Ryder Robinson is a rebel in the making! Kate Hudson's 9-year-old son with ex-husband Chris Robinson rocked pink and blue streaks in his hair while bonding with grandparents Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell over lunch in Malibu May 11. Though the Reluctant Fundamentalist actress was nowhere in sight, Ryder had plenty of fun with his other famous relatives. After a family meal, Hawn and Russell bought their grandson some educational games at Toy Crazy. Uncles Oliver Hudson (with son Bodhi, 2) and Wyatt Rusell also joined in [...] »

Moms are probably the most influential teachers in our lives. They teach us tangible things like how to tie our shoes, the proper way to hold a fork and how to sit up straight, but they also teach us things that aren't visible to the naked eye.
When it comes to fashion, our moms are also great sources of inspiration. (Raise your hand if you remember teetering around in your mother's high heels as a child!)
In celebration of Mother's Day, we are taking a look at a few famous mother-daughter duos, including Goldie Hawn and Kate Hudson, to see what they can teach us when it comes to style.
It takes a special kind of woman to pull off mom jeans and a fanny pack.

Kate Hudson and Matthew Bellamy spent a sunny day with their son, Bing, in Santa Monica yesterday. The family is back in the La area after they took a short trip to Santa Barbara with Kate's stepdad, Kurt Russell. Kate, Matthew, and Kurt visited a winery on Monday while Kate's fashionable Hollywood peers were busy in NYC attending the 2013 Met Gala. She may have opted to skip the Big Apple bash to spend time with her family as she will be back to work again soon. Kate will pack up and head off to London by the end of this month to begin filming for Good People with James Franco. However, before she leaves for London, Kate will spend Mother's Day with her mom, Goldie Hawn. Kate and Goldie told Popsugar Beauty that they are planning to spend the weekend together at a spa in the desert, complete with pampering, »

Welcome back to This Week In Discs! As always, if you see something you like, click on the image to buy it. The Telephone Book Alice is a young lady in the Big Apple whose libido is constantly on the lookout for the next arousing adventure, and she finds it when an obscene caller targets her for an erotic tongue-lashing. She becomes obsessed with finding the man behind the voice and sets out on a journey that brings her in contact with some truly eccentric characters and ultimately in touch with herself. This 1971 film was apparently thought lost for some time to the point that most people have probably never heard of it before. Vinegar Syndrome is still a very young label (this is only their seventh release), but they’ve more than proven their worth here by resurrecting it onto blu-ray. While described as an erotic cult classic I found the movie to actually be surprisingly »

Kate Hudson had Matthew Bellamy by her side as they left a friend's house in La yesterday. The duo were apparently getting a head start on Cinco de Mayo celebrations, and Kate marked the holiday early by baring her stomach in a cutoff Strokes tee and tiny shorts. Kate is back on the West Coast after a stint in NYC, where she hung out with her boys Matthew, Ryder, and Bingham and promoted The Reluctant Fundamentalist. During press for the movie, Kate opened up about balancing motherhood and work. She'll soon be getting a little extra recognition for her role as a mom since Mother's Day is coming up next weekend. Kate and her mom Goldie Hawn have a "hike, spa day, and tennis date in the desert" planned to mark the occasion, which they shared with us during a recent interview in the Big Apple. Kate Hudson rarely had 'fancy things' as a child. The 34-year-old actress- who followed her mum Goldie Hawn into the acting industry - admits she used to rummage through her mum's wardrobe when she was growing up but never wore designer clothes because Goldie wasn't into buying the high-end gear. Speaking to People magazine, Goldie said: 'She [Kate] was always her own stylist. If she picked and chose through my closet it was completely out of curiosity... I was not a buyer of fancy clothes, Katie will tell you. I think she remembers a few fancy things I got her, but she created her own style.' Kate added: 'We weren't a big clothes-buying family, except for back to school. We »

The 'Bride Wars' artist told the Sunday Times Magazine that fame takes parents away from you.
She said that it isn't necessarily something where, as a child, you say, 'Oh, this is fabulous!' because you feel the opposite.

Kate Hudson wore two separate black leather skirts for her appearance on The Late Show in NYC last night as part of her promotional duties for The Reluctant Fundamentalist. The actress has had a busy week of press, starting with Monday's Tribeca Film Festival premiere of her movie. She had fiancé Matthew Bellamy and costar Kiefer Sutherland by her side for the event, which she followed up Tuesday with a stop by Good Morning America. In her chat with David Letterman, Kate talked about family. She explained the difference between her two sons, Ryder and Bingham, saying, "Ryder is laid-back, cool, sory of poetic type. Bing - fireball. Knows what he wants. First word was ball, everything sporty." She also chatted about loving to hang out with her parents, Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn. Kate Hudson looked incredible while leaving a taping of "The Late Show With David Letterman" yesterday (April 24) in NYC.
The 34-year-old mom-of two rocked a sexy leather miniskirt and plunging black top, pairing the look with bright pink heels. Hudson's legs were the main attraction as she posed for photographers, flaunting her amazing post-baby body.
Hudson, who welcomed son Bing in July 2011, is still planning her wedding to fiance, Muse frontman Matt Bellamy.
"I was really pregnant [the last time I was here], and now ... I'm not," Hudson said during her interview with Letterman, which aired last night. "I'm in the phase of my life now where I hear 'Mom' all the time. It's just, 'Mom, mom, mom, mom, ... ' I love it, but you start tuning out a hundred moms a day."
Still, Hudson admitted she loves her family life and is thankful to have her own mom, Goldie Hawn.

When we spotted this cute photo of Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell touching down at Lax last week, we were reminded of just how long the couple have been together. Though they've never officially tied the knot, their 30-year relationship has outlasted most Hollywood marriages.
Hawn, 67, and Russell, 62, are one of those couples we tend to think of as hitched even though they're not. Here are some other pairs in that category. »

Still going strong: Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell were all smiles as they touched down at Lax Thursday, sporting summer-ready tans and, for Russell, a full beard. The 67-year-old mother of Kate Hudson and 62-year-old actor have been together for 30 years -- since meeting each other on 1983's "Swing Shift" -- but have never tied the knot.
"There's a trick. You have to like the way each other smell," Hawn told Radio 4's "Woman Hour" in 2012. "I think Kurt's an extraordinary person. I love being with him and I love our family and I love our family life."

Kate Hudson and fiance Matt Bellamy are now the proud parents of son Bingham Hawn Bellamy, but the child was an unexpected surprise when Hudson got pregnant in 2010. The actress recalls learning the news in the May issue of Elle UK.
"It was all very old-fashioned and proper and we went on lovely dates, but two months later I was pregnant," she remembers. "Well, yes I was shocked, but I also thought: 'This is going to be interesting. I knew it would take a strong man to deal with it. You know that with a relationship things can go either way when you have a child."
Hudson and Bellamy went on to get engaged, and Bingham was born in July 2011. But the couple still hasn't tied the knot and isn't in a rush to do so. "We will get married. I do think it's important but we have no plans, »

Washington -- Actress-producer Kate Hudson says the pressure of stepping out of the shadow of her movie star mom Goldie Hawn was discouraging and daunting.
She advised girls to believe in their own talent and take risks as they choose a career path.
"Take a chance on your own talent and your ambition because if you don't do that, there's no one else who will," she said.
Hudson spoke at the ANNpower Leadership Forum, a week-long program that unites teens from across the country with women leaders in business, entertainment and nonprofit groups.
The "Almost Famous" star and Ann Taylor spokeswoman is a member of the advisory council that mentors the teen girls and recommends grants for community projects they create in their neighborhoods, from a healthy eating program to a clothing collection drive.
Joining the actress were Ann Inc. CEO Kay Krill and Washington non-profit Vital Voices Global Partnership CEO Alyse Nelson, »
