Morning Meme: Charlie Sheen Drops "Faggot" In Mexico, Miley Cyrus Loves Her Gay Fans Best, and Both Sides Marshall Forces For Marriage In Illinois

31 December 2012 4:54 AM, PST | The Backlot | See recent The Backlot news »

Charlie Sheen opened a bar in Mexico, so you knew it was going to be trouble from the beginning. And it was, as Charlie shouted "How we doing? ... Lying bunch of faggot assholes, how we doing?" Charlie tells TMZ 1) "I meant no ill will and intended to hurt no one and I apologize if I offended anyone." And 2) "I meant to say maggot but I have a lisp." Points for creativity?

VH1 pulls together a list of their Best Shipped Relationships of 2012, and Destiel, Wincest, Johnlock all made the cut, but of course the real winner was Sterek … and Vhelton, where our two Tumblrs fell in mad, passionate love with each other. Hey, Entertainment Weekly, you jelly?

How I Met Your Mother Renewed for Ninth and Final Season

28 December 2012 6:36 PM, PST | Filmofilia | See recent Filmofilia news »

The producers of the charming and quite popular CBS comedy How I Met Your Mother have finally given an answer regarding the fate of the series. Creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas began writing the current eighth season as if it would be the last one, but they’ve been hoping that the network will come down with decision on whether or not they needed to plan for one more season, or wrap things up in May.

Dealing was complicated as contracts for both Bays and Thomas as well as the entire cast were up at the end of this year, but CBS never hid that they wouldn’t be keen on ordering another full season for the ratings-smash show if all the deals could be renegotiated.

Now we know that How I Met Your Mother has been renewed for a ninth and final season.

Famous People Play Themselves in One Mega Meta Supercut

28 December 2012 4:39 PM, PST | NextMovie | See recent NextMovie news »

Ha, we had almost forgotten about Bruce Springsteen in "High Fidelity" and David Bowie in "Zoolander" (we default to Billy Zane on that one). And you can't beat Bill Murray in "Zombieland." And even though we would've picked Bruce Willis in "Ocean's Twelve" over Bruce Willis in "What Just Happened?," this is a pretty damn good collection (courtesy of AnimalNY) of the celebrity world self-congratulating itself by breaking its own fourth wall. Or ... something.

Anyway, we agree with FilmDrunk in that the meta-levels may one day reach such an extreme that movies will nothing more than celebrities playing us pretending to be them and everything will be a sequel to "The Human Centipede."

Here is the full list of cameos, in order of appearance ...

1. John Malkovich, "Being John Malkovich"

2. David Hasselhoff, "SpongeBob SquarePants"

3. Neil Patrick Harris, "Harold and Kumar Go to While Castle"

4. Dr. Phil and Shaquille O’Neal, "Scary Movie 4"

Morning Meme: Louis Smith Wants You To Remember How Straight He Is, Jake Shears Thinks Gay Celebrities Should Come Out, and "Teen Wolf" Shows Us Its Twin Alphas (and Stiles)

27 December 2012 8:19 AM, PST | The Backlot | See recent The Backlot news »

Olympian and Strictly Come Dancing winner Louis Smith is happy to be a gay icon, but wants all us gays to remember he's really, really straight. “As long as gay people can see the line, and that I fancy women, that’s fine. I don’t want to be put in a difficult, uncomfortable situation.” We'll try to control ourselves.

Jake Shears is thrilled his friend Anderson Cooper has finally come out. He also thinks that gay celebrities have a responsibility to come out. "I think gay celebrities at least have the responsibility to come out. It can be tricky though."

Buzzfeed has a list of seven states that they think could achieve marriage equality in 2013. Illinois, Delaware, Minnesota, Hawaii, New Jersey, Rhode Island and California are in play this year. How I Met Your Mother: Ninth, Final Season Renewal

22 December 2012 11:14 AM, PST | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

Negotiations reportedly came down to the wire but How I Met Your Mother is now set to be renewed for a ninth and final season.

The current eighth season is the last under CBS' license deal and the contracts with Himym creators Craig Thomas and Carter Bays and the cast are set to expire as well. Himym is the network's fourth-highest rated sitcom and has stood up to tough Monday night competition, particularly from NBC's The Voice. CBS clearly wanted to keep the show going if possible.

The producers, Josh Radnor, Cobie Smulders, Neil Patrick Harris and Alyson Hannigan were apparently all willing to return for a ninth season but Jason Segel was not. His movie career has really taken off, had been talking about leaving for awhile, and he'd already spent eight years on Himym.

How the Holiday’s Gave the Gift of Boba Fett

21 December 2012 5:14 PM, PST | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

“Why do I always think gettin’ you home for Life Day is gonna be easy?”

So says a languid Han Solo to an excitable Chewbacca in the legendarily awful 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special. Perhaps the most infamous Television Christmas Special ever made, The Star Wars Holiday Special is a mythic assault on fanboy watchability. There are shows that are so good they’re bad, the kind of outing where laughable moments and poor production add an air of ironic, even classic credibility. Then there’s The Star Wars Holiday Special. So bad its good just doesn’t apply here. This two-hour spinoff is utterly unwatchable save for a brief section of animation wedged between the overcooked buns of this whopper of a fail.

While the idea of a Star Wars Christmas special may have sounded good on paper, this Lucasfilm misstep left a blemish on Star Wars even greater than Jar Jar. »

The Final Page is How I Met Your Mother’s Best Play

18 December 2012 4:17 PM, PST | Boomtron | See recent Boomtron news »

One of the greatest tricks How I Met Your Mother has pulled of in its seven and a half season is the amazing transformation Barney has gone through. I’m sure I won’t be the only person noticing how adept the writers of this show have gotten at writing for this character – a character that was once the wacky, womanizing sidekick. Every time Barney has made a go at a serious relationship it’s been met with disaster, particularly the first time he dated Robin. All those women felt wrong and it was because Barney would go to all this trouble to prove he didn’t need to be this guy who has a playbook and uses manipulation to get in bed with countless gullible women. But that’s fundamentally who this character is; you can’t just drop his signature moves and expect the audience to go along with it. »
