Alita: Battle Angel Wants Christoph Waltz as Dyson

25 August 2016 2:02 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

After languishing in development for years as a project James Cameron had planned on directing, Alita: Battle Angel finally started moving forward last year when Robert Rodriguez signed on to direct, with James Cameron producing. Back in February, we reported that Rosa Salazar was chosen to play the title character, and now that her deal has been finalized, the rest of the cast is starting to come together. Today we have word that Oscar winner Christoph Waltz is in early talks to play Doctor Dyson Ido.

The Hollywood Reporter reveals that, if a deal comes together, Christoph Waltz will play Dyson Ido, the cybersurgeon who discovers the title character and becomes her mentor. This project is based on the Japanese Manga series of graphic novels by Yukito Kishiro. The movie is believed to combine the first three books, Ido, Alita and Hugo.

Swedish director Tomas Alfredson’s U.K.-U.S. production of “The Snowman,” starring Michael Fassbender, and “Downsizing” from U.S. helmer Alexander Payne directly spent $24 million in Norway during their Norwegian location shoots. They were the first two international features shot in Norway to receive funding from the new state incentive program to attract foreign film and TV productions.

According to a preliminary report by Norway’s Olsberg Spi Consultancy, which was published Aug. 22 at a production seminar during the 44th Norwegian Intl. Film Festival in Haugesund, the two productions also created 142 full-time equivalent jobs with a total of $12.7 million payroll costs (generating $4 millon tax income for the state).

Financial consultant Andrew Barnes, of Olsberg Spi, presented the report, which was based on the budgets of the two films, recommending the incentive scheme be expanded from $5.5 million in the first year started March 1, 2016, to cover up to four international productions. »

Joss Whedon rumoured to direct Supergirl / The Flash musical crossover

13 August 2016 10:08 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Not content with a big four-way crossover, The CW has announced that The Flash and Supergirl will be crossing paths once again this season for a special two-parter, which is set to feature a musical element.

The news was announced at The CW’s Television Critics Association panel, and is expected to occur around the 13th episode of the DC shows’ upcoming seasons, with former Glee co-stars Grant Gustin and Melissa Benoist once again flexing their singing voices on screen.

Furthermore, The Hashtag Show is reporting that Joss Whedon (The Avengers) is being lined up to direct the episode, which will reportedly see the two heroes going up against the Batman: The Brave and the Bold villain the Music Meister, and that Neil Patrick Harris may reprise the role, having voiced the character in the animated series.

The report follows comments from Gustin at last month’s San Diego Comic-Con, »

Joss Whedon To Direct The Flash And Supergirl Musical Crossover?

12 August 2016 11:30 AM, PDT | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

Yesterday, the CW announced at the TV Critics Association press tour that the CW would be doing something quite interesting with two of their DC shows: they'd have a two-part musical crossover between them. The shows in question were The Flash and Supergirl, though they also implied that other characters in this Greg Berlanti-created universe may join in on the fun.

This isn't the most interesting bit of news now, however.

According to a report from YouTube channel That Hashtag Show, the CW has turned to Joss Whedon himself to direct the musical crossover.

This is crazy cool on a couple of different levels. First is the obvious fact that Joss Whedon was once one of the key architects of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While the Arrow-verse is no DC Extended Universe, this bit of news would solidify Whedon taking the leap from one comic book giant to the other. »

The Flash and Supergirl musical crossover: Joss Whedon rumoured to direct

11 August 2016 12:17 PM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Rob Leane Aug 15, 2016

The Flash and Supergirl will sing together this season, but could Joss Whedon be directing them?

The news of a musical crossover between Supergirl and The Flash broke last Friday. Since then, a hot rumour emerged to compliment the story: what if Joss Whedon directed the two-part superhero music fest?

The rumour originated from That Hashtag Show, the YouTube series that previously shared the scoop that Finn Jones had been cast as Marvel's Iron Fist long before an official confirmation came to light.

Whedon's involvement in the crossover is "locked", according to That Hashtag Show's unnamed source, and they've reached out to The CW for a comment.

Their source also says that the crossover's villain will be the Music Meister, who was previously voiced by Neil Patrick Harris (Whedon's partner on the Doctor Horrible's Singalong Blog web series) in an episode of Batman: The Brave And The Bold. »
