Elijah Wood: 'I was thrilled to play Frodo Baggins in The Hobbit'

22 December 2011 4:05 PM, PST | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

Since Lord of the Rings, the actor has avoided big-budget epics. But now he's reprising his hobbit role and starring in a lavish Treasure Island adaptation

Is that the Ring? Around the ring finger of Elijah Wood's right hand is a band of silver with strange lettering on it – probably Elvish. As a reward for his lead hobbiting services in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, director Peter Jackson reportedly gave Wood the original Ring. And he still wears it. Doesn't he?

"No. This is Hebrew, " he says, twirling the ring around his finger. "I know, it has a kind of a similar look to it."

Oh.

"I do have the Ring, but it's not inscribed, and it's gold. But I don't think it's real gold – gold-plated. But, no, I don't wear it. I keep it in a little box." Not on a chain around his neck? "I carried it for a long time, »

Watch: Robert Pattinson Sleeps His Way Around Paris In The Trailer For 'Bel Ami'

22 December 2011 5:59 AM, PST | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

The next twelve months will be something of a pivot point for Robert Pattinson, as by this time next year, the "Twilight" series, which made his name, will be over, and the risk of him becoming a vampiric version of Mark Hamill -- never able to escape the shadow of his mega franchise -- will start to come up; while he's had a few modest successes, none have been massive, or particularly critically acclaimed. But the actor is clearly taking advice from the right people, with two indie films on the way with some pretty high pedigree, the second of which, David Cronenberg's "Cosmopolis" is one of our most anticipated films of 2012.  But first up is "Bel Ami," a period drama that adapts Guy de Maupassant's novel of power, class and sexuality, in which the actor leads a cast including Kristin Scott-Thomas, Uma Thurman, and Christina Ricci. Morning Meme: Evan Peters Lubes Up, GLAAD & Hrc Step Up The Campaign Against "Work It", and Would Matt Damon Make a Great Gay Best Friend?

22 December 2011 5:19 AM, PST | The Backlot | See recent The Backlot news »

American Horror Story's Evan Peters was discussing the Rubber Man suit, but the quote is just amazing. And maybe a little familiar sounding. "I don’t know if you’ve ever put on lube before, but it’s not like there’s a layer of Vaseline on you; it’s just almost like your skin is super smooth and slick; it feels kind of gross, but at the same time, you feel really well moisturized. You’re not like, 'Ew, get it off of me.' You’re more like, 'This is kind of gross. I want to get this off as soon as possible. But maybe I can stop and get a sandwich first.'”

Contrary to reports from, well, everywhere, Newt Gingrich did not say that gays should vote for Obama.

Vga Awards 2011: Warner Bros & Bethesda Lead a Memorable Year

14 December 2011 4:07 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

As we hurtle toward a promising 2012, 2011 has arguably been one of the most impressive years for the industry since, well, 2010. It’s a good time be playing games.

A saturation of semicolons is indicative of a continued franchise offensive by the major publishers and, if Spike TV’s Video Game Awards are anything to go by, it’s really paying off.

Warner Bros. Interactive led the way with a total of seven wins from its three strongest games – Bastion, Batman: Arkham City and Mortal Kombat. Bastion bagged Best Downloadable Game, as well Original Score and Best Song, whilst Arkham City came away with an impressive 4 wins over 11 categories.

Nintendo came out on top in some pretty big categories, bagging wins for Skyward Sword in Best Wii, Handheld and Motion Game.

However, coming away with top prize of Game of the Year, Bethesda seem to have finally nailed the open »

Video Games: WB Confirm That Arkham World Tease At Vga's Was Just "Good Fun"

13 December 2011 7:50 AM, PST | ComicBookMovie.com | See recent ComicBookMovie news »

During The Joker's acceptance speech at Spike TV's Video Game Awards on Saturday, the appearance of a script entitled "Arkham World" resulted in many jumping to the conclusion that that would be the title of the next game. Well, Vg 24/7 reveal that Warner Bros. today issued a statement to them making it clear that it was indeed nothing more than a joke: "What was referenced in the acceptance was added in good fun only." Here's the clip of the Joker (voiced brilliantly by Mark Hamill) which caused so much excitement. »

Batman: Arkham City Sequel To Be Titled “Arkham World”?

12 December 2011 12:27 PM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

During the VGAs, Mark Hamill made an appearance while accepting his award for character of the year for his performance as the Joker in this year’s smash hit Batman: Arkham City. As he was accepting the award he was holding a script titled “Batman: Arkham World.” He then proceeded to throw the script in the trash and said: ”Oops, spoilers!”

It should be noted that the first ever trailer for Batman: Arkham City was revealed at the 2010 VGAs, so Rochsteady has used this forum before to showcase their forthcoming games. However, I think you should probably take this information with a grain of salt. Mark Hamill has already said he is retiring from doing the Jokers’ voice so this may just be one part of a big elaborate “joke”.

Although with how well Arkham City has sold, I can almost guarantee there will be another Batman game in the works, »

'Batman: Arkham City' Wins Four VGAs, Sequel Rumors Abound

12 December 2011 10:24 AM, PST | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

Saturday night, industry luminaries gathered in Los Angeles to celebrate the best that videogames had to offer for 2011. Whether you love or loathe the somewhat campy Spike Video Game Awards, the show does provide a chance to honor some of the year's best titles, as well as revealing new games via world premiere trailers.

"Batman: Arkham City" held its own within the crowd of nominees, taking home four awards across multiple categories.

Rocksteady and Warner Bros. Interactive received awards for Best Action-Adventure Game, Best Xbox 360 Game, Character of the Year (Joker), and Best Adapted Game. The Character of the Year award was well-deserved, considering Mark Hamill's amazing performance, but the Best Xbox 360 Game award was a bit odd. "Arkham City" isn't exclusive to Microsoft's console, and considering there are a number of Xbox-exclusive titles – well, whatever.

The internet has gone aflutter since a CG Joker accepted his award, »

Spike VGAs: Picking the Winners

A series of best-guesses, theories, and wishful thinking about some of this year's nominees.

Who will win? Who will lose? Who was robbed? With the 2011 VGAs airing tomorrow night, I have opinions and wish to make you read them. You can check out the full list of nominees on the Spike VGAs site.

If ______ doesn't win, I'm going to burn this place down! ("Best Performance by a Human Male" Edition)

The lineup of voice actor competition is pretty rich for this year's VGAs, and as much as I hate to draw any attention away from the excellent J.K. Simmons and his work in Portal 2, Mark Hamill is simply the hands-down winner for this year for his role as the Joker in Arkham City. Although the overall experience in AC has its issues, the clear standout, the one flawless element to the entire game is Hamill's performance, providing a grotesque, blackly »

This is a must watch video for any Star Wars fan. In this rare series of interviews, the cast of Empire Strikes Back reveals some very different plans for the prequels. One of the most interesting parts is when Mark Hamill speculates that his son Nathan could play a young Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars prequels. Hamill then goes on to say that the prequels would take place 20 years before the original Star Wars, and the third movie would feature "an eight-year-old Luke playing in the background." In addition, Harrison Ford talks about whether Han Solo would appear in episodes seven, eight and nine.

Nerd Watch: Rare 'Empire Strikes Back' Interviews Discuss Alternate Sequel and Prequel Plans, The Controversial Ending and More

There's so much crazy Star Wars stuff floating around online that some of you may have seen this already, though most of you probably haven't. In this recently-discovered rare junket interview for The Empire Strikes Back, there are some fun anecdotes from the cast, like when Mark Hamill opens up the interview discussing plans for the prequels -- which, in his mind, end with the transformation of Darth Vader, but will also include an "eight-year-old Luke playing in the background." Hamill laughed off any idea that his young infant son Nathan could play Luke in the prequels. But the prequels weren't the only thing folks back then were talking about because, as of the release of Empire in theaters, George Lucas was planning on potentially...
