Games: The predator gameplay of Batman: Arkham Asylum

15 July 2009 6:35 AM, PDT | From doorQ.com | See recent doorQ.com news

After Jody's post this morning, I went looking for more Batman: Arkham Asyum coolness!

Well, it was not enough that I found out that Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamil are back to voicing their characters from Batman: The Animated Series,  but now they're doing it in a game that I can't wait to get my doorQy little hands on?

Squeeeeeeee!

Check the trailer!

It's like watching the animated series again! At any case, the predator gameplay aspect of the game focuses on you using your surroundings to pick off your foes by utilizing the environment. This can range from just doing a gliding boot to the head or just simply planting C4 to a wall and blowing it up by a nearby henchmen that you don't like.

Check out the gameplay trailer embed below, from this year's Game Developer's Conference. (I saw it already when I went.)

Squee? Yes.

Discuss: Is Matt Damon the New Harrison Ford? Shia Labeouf… The New Bruce Willis?

2 June 2009 6:00 AM, PDT | From /Film | See recent /Film news

On this week's episode of the Totally Rad Show, Dan Trachtenberg started an interesting conversation comparing the new generation of Hollywood actors to those of yesteryear (you can watch a clip after the jump). It starts off nice an easy -- The Rock is the new Arnold Schwarzenegger (he just got into the kiddie comedies a little bit earlier). The next generation's Harrison Ford? Matt Damon. Makes perfect sense. They are both talented actors who also did fun action trilogies. But then Dan said Shia Labeouf is this generation's Bruce Willis... what? I would say that Shia is my generation's Michael J Fox (no offense to Fox). (correction: apparently Dan wasn't comparing Shia to Bruce, I just misunderstood) How about Clint Eastwood? or Bill Murray? or Robert De Niro? Who is our generation's Mark Hamil? My vote is for Keanu Reeves! Discuss: I would love to hear some of your comparisons,

“Nazis. I hate these guys.”: 15 WWII Movies Worth Watching Before You See Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds.

26 May 2009 4:10 PM, PDT | From FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news

Who knew that the Nazis -- one of the most brutal regimes in the history of brutal regimes -- would be responsible for such fun, mind-blowingly awesome entertainment? The second I see a dude in a grey German uniform and an eye patch enter the frame, I’m like ‘Whoa. That Nazi is going to provide me a great amount of entertainment this evening’. So, with Inglorious Bastards having recently premiered at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival, I figured I'd put together a list of some awesome WW2 films as a resource for anyone wanting to beef up their WW2 film knowledge before checking out Tarantino's self-proclaimed 'masterpiece'. It's worth noting that I focused on older films -- pre-1980 for the most part -- and only the stories featuring Nazi's. It was tough to cut this down to 15 films, but I'm sure you all will be able to come up with

Star Wars line named most misquoted by fans in new survey

11 May 2009 4:44 AM, PDT | From Boxwish.com | See recent BoxWish news

Quoting movie lines is part and parcel of the film fan’s arsenal. If you’ve loved the movie, chances are you’ve loved the characters and their dialogue and sometimes you’re barely out of the auditorium before you’re repeating your favourite snatches of their conversations. However, it turns out that no matter how devoted we are as cinephiles, we don’t always get everything right and often fail in our bid to accurately quote the movies. And LOVEFiLM have found that the line we most abuse is one from sci-fi saga Star Wars.

Spoken by Darth Vader to Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) in The Empire Strikes Back, the actual line is ” No, I am your father”, yet is often misquoted as “Luke, I am your father.” This ranked highest with the 1,500 film fans questioned by LOVEFiLM with the second place taken by animated masterpiece Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Battle for Terra

1 May 2009 1:00 AM, PDT | From The Scorecard Review | See recent Scorecard Review news

Battle for Terra

Directed by: Aristomenis Tsirbas

Cast: (voices) Evan Rachel Wood, Luke Wilson, Brian Cox, David Cross

Running Time: 1 hr 25 mins

Rating: PG

Release Date: May 1, 2009

Plot: Following the destruction of Earth and other human-colonized planets, the remaining humans search space for a new place to settle. When the humans attack Terra, a peaceful alien planet, a young Terrian (Wood) and a human pilot (Wilson) try to end the war.

Who’s It For? If you appreciate a good score and enjoy contemplating the future of the human race, check this one out. Surprisingly this film isn’t for the the little ones, there’s just too much violence for a standard kid flick.

Expectations: Since this is a full-length version of the 2003 award-wining, seven-minute short film by the same director, I’m expecting good things. I just hope it’s not seven minutes of substance and 78 minutes of filler.

Vanessa Hudgens Is Beast's Beauty

22 April 2009 12:58 AM, PDT | From cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news

Determined not to be the Mark Hamill of High School Musical (If Mark Hamill liked to take naked cell phone pictures of himself that is. How do you know he doesn't?), Vanessa Hudgens has lined up a new movie role. Et says that she's set to star in a new Beauty and the Beast re-spin. Titled Beastly, the movie is a modern-day take on Beauty and the Beast, with Vanessa Hudgens as Beauty. No word yet on who's playing the beast but seriously, unless it's Ron Perlman I refused to get interested. This particular Beauty and the Beast tale is set in Manhattan and involves a spoiled rich kid who ditches a date, gets cursed, and find himself grotesquely transformed into everything he hates. Does that mean he becomes a freakshow... or just a poor person? To solve his problem, whatever it is, he has to find true love. Lucky

Harley Quinn in 'Arkham Asylum' Game Trailer

19 April 2009 12:15 AM, PDT | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

On June 9th, Batman: Arkham Asylum hits stores for XBox, PS3 and PC, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't looking forward to it just a little bit. The game combines some of the best of the Gotham City mythos with some of the voice actors fans of the animated Batman series have come to know quite well.

Mark Hamill is back as the Joker and Kevin Conroy is the Caped Crusader, and the game has a real dark, gloomy look that fits with that particular nuthouse. Oh, and it's loaded with villains: The Riddler, Penguin, Mr. Freeze, Scarecrow, Harley Quinn, and I think Fed chief Tim Geitner is a major player, too. Ok, maybe not.

The latest trailer for Arkham Asylum features Harley Quinn, voiced by Arleen Sorkin, who has been the voice of that character since 1992 in all sorts of animated shows. But there's something different about this Harley.

Efron Hungers For Skywalker Role

9 April 2009 2:55 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Zac Efron is keen to bring Luke Skywalker to the small screen after toying around with Star Wars props at George Lucas' California mansion.

The High School Musical star filmed scenes for his new movie 17 Again at Lucas' museum-like home, Skywalker Ranch, and now he's begging the movie mogul for a leading role in his Star Wars TV series.

Efron tells MovieHole.net, "There were real stormtrooper outfits, real memorabilia from the movie. There were a lot of valuable things we were wrecking in that house. That element, that nerd part of the film, is right up my alley.

"I was so at home in that house. I would look at everything for hours. I have pictures with Darth Vader and Chewbacca.

"George Lucas is doing a Star Wars TV series? Oh man. I'll have to put in a phone call. Young Skywalker? Yeah... Bring it On!"

Mark Hamill played Luke Skywalker in the original Star Wars movies.

[DVD Review] Batman: The Motion Picture Anthology 1989-1997

16 March 2009 1:36 PM, PDT | From JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news

Batman: The Motion Picture Anthology: 1989-1997 is best described as epic. Four Batman films in high-definition on separate discs packed with extra features - that's a nice package if ever there was one. This will be one of those reviews where less attention will be given to the movies themselves (as the last one came out over 10 years ago) and almost all of this review will be given to the extra features on each disc. Quite honestly, if you don't know the plots of these movies you really shouldn't be buying a Batman anthology.

Before I get into the Extra Features of the individual Blu-ray discs, I think it'll be easier if I establish the standard features present on all of the discs. Unless otherwise mentioned, each disc features an audio commentary by the film's director (Tim Burton or Joel Schumacher), the film's theatrical trailer and an installment in

Get Your Dose of Mark Hamill in The New 'Batman: Arkham Asylum' Trailer

12 March 2009 2:53 PM, PDT | From FEARnet | See recent FEARnet news

Although set to air tonight on their television station, MTV Multiplayer blogger extraordinaire Stephen Totilo has posted the new trailer for the upcoming Rocksteady/Eidos/WB three-way Batman: Arkham Asylum.  In addition to a hefty slice of Mark Hamill voiceover work, we get to see some serious gameplay footage, in which Batman employs his "Invisible Predator" techniques to take out the Joker's hooligans one-by-one after the jump! From the looks of it, this could be the first Batman game to not suck since Sunsoft's release on the Nes.  With writer Paul Dini and voice actors Kevin Conroy and the inimitable Mark Hamill on board, I feel like I'm watching Fox Kids in the afternoon all over again!...

WonderCon 2009 - Closing Thoughts

2 March 2009 10:54 PM, PST | From ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news

WonderCon 2009 was fun and I took a lot away from it. I’d like to share a quick look back at a few moments I experienced while there!

On Friday I walked the entire floor, checking out the booths for both product and celebrity appearances. The floor is definitely more focused on games and comic books. While browsing around, I asked a few folks about the size of the con and a few of them thought it was smaller than in previous years.

Despite the years, Mark Hamill was by far the most popular notable on the floor Friday night.

Yet the one thing I noticed was the lack of costumed attendees. There were some, but the numbers were a mere shadow of how many folk came dressed as their favorite movie character back at Comic-Con.

The biggest thing that stuck with me from the weekend was seeing the first 20 minutes of Watchmen.

WonderCon 2009 - Day One Recap

28 February 2009 11:02 AM, PST | From ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news

I arrived at WonderCon around mid afternoon and walked the floor to see what they had.  It is a lot more low key than the San Diego Comic-Con and the focus is so much more on comics and video games.

The hall is only 2/3rds full of vendors and booths today.  It’s odd to see so much empty floor space in a convention like this.  Is the economy hitting even here?  I’ve been told that the Con filled the hall last year.

There were quite a few folks signing autographs.  Most were character actors like Bobby Clark, the man who wore the Gorn suit on Star Trek and Anthony Forest, the storm trooper who said “These aren’t the droids we’re looking for” in Star Wars.

The bigger draws that I saw were the likes of Richard Kiel and Mark Hamill.

When I tried to get a snap of Kiel,

Zac Efron named breakthrough performer by theater owners

27 February 2009 12:11 PM, PST | From Gold Derby | See recent Gold Derby news

Zac Efron is being recognized by movie theater owners as the breakthrough performer of the year. This is a new award from ShoWest which bills itself as "the most prestigious and longest running convention and trade show for the cinema exhibition and distribution community." While Zac Efron first came to  fame on TV's "High School Musical," he was featured in the big-screen third installment of this franchise last fall. And now Zac Efron is about to carry his first film with the time-traveling comedy "17 Again."

The trade fair has been handing out various kudos to stars since 1978 when it named Henry Winkler as male star of the year and Mark Hamill as the male star of tomorrow. While Winkler was a hot TV commodity as the Fonz on No. 1-rated "Happy Days," his film career failed to flourish. Neither "Heroes," a 1977 road movie with Sally Field, nor 1978's "The One and Only,

NYC Comic Con 2009: Afro Samurai: Resurrection

8 February 2009 6:56 PM, PST | From ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news

Afro Samurai kept popping up unexpectedly during this year’s New York Comic Con! First came the big reveal from legendary Japanese director Takashi Miike that he wants to do an Afro Samurai film; then came the hours I spent playing the Afro Samurai video game on the convention floor (sweet!).

Finally came the best bit of Afro Samurai news of all! Comic Con was offering an exclusive screening of the sequel to Afro Samurai, Afro Samurai: Resurrection!

And it was a screening that I will never forget…

…because they totally screwed it up!!!

First mistake: they held the screening in a sixty person room for what turned out to be a crowd of hundreds– most of whom ultimately got turned away. (Do they Not know that people love Afro Samurai??? Come on! He’s a badass swordsman who maims and kills, smokes crooked joints and has a huge Afro!
