Sang background vocals on two albums by singer/composer Bobby Womack ("Communication"-1971-United Artists Records and "Understanding"-1972-United Artists Records).

In the 1980s she performed in the stage play "Frankie and Johnny at the Clair de Lune" with actor Richard Lawson; Grier gained eighty pounds to prepare for this role. The prolific dramatist Terrence McNally authored this play, which was adapted for the screen; See Frankie and Johnny (1991).
