Author: Zehra Phelan

Empire and Hidden Figures Taraji P. Henson has taken Cookie’s feisty to a whole new level as she dons her black leather and takes up a gun to turn slick hit woman in the trailer for Proud Mary.

The all new female lead action film is directed by London has Fallen’s Babak Najafi from a screenplay by John Stuart Newman & Christian Swegal and Steven Antin, based on a story by Newman & Swegal. Producers are Paul Schiff and Tai Duncan.

Set to Tina Turner’s “Proud Mary” (predictable), we are introduced to Mary (Henson) as she dresses herself in her lethal black leather outfit including her knee high kinky boots with heels so thin and high any normal woman wouldn’t be able to walk in let alone take out a bunch of musclebound men.

Today marks the first full day of San Diego Comic-Con, one of the biggest fan-based events in the world. Generally, the biggest releases have their panels over the weekend, and that’s when the stars turn up to reveal exciting news about some of our favourite Marvel, DC, and Disney properties. So, stay tuned to see what kinds of crazy news comes out of Hall H!

Today, however, saw the release of a few trailers that have us just as excited as anything coming out of Comic-Con. The first is the new trailer for Jigsaw, which is essentially an origin story for the ultra-creepy villain of the Saw series. Expect lots of gore and increasingly creative torture devices, along with some dark humour to boot. »

Coming Distractions: Taraji P. Henson channels her inner Pam Grier in the Proud Mary trailer

20 July 2017 1:07 PM, PDT | avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news »

The music choice is beyond on the nose, but fans of blaxploitation goddesses like Pam Grier and Tamara Dobson will still find something to get excited about in the trailer for Proud Mary. Starring the inimitable Taraji P. Henson as Mary, a deadly hitwoman in a blonde wig and head-to-toe black leather ensemble, the film is an unabashed ’70s throwback—or early ’80s, in the case of the Gloria-inspired storyline about a young boy who, in the words of the film’s official description, “completely turn[s Mary’s life] around” when they cross paths after a hit gone bad.

London Has Fallen’s Babak Najafi directs, which doesn’t exactly inspire confidence in the film. But frankly, we’d watch Henson in just about anything, especially if gunplay and ultra-cool ’70s style are involved. Proud Mary co-stars Danny Glover and is set to hit theaters on January 12 »

Watch Taraji P. Henson Play an Assassin in 'Proud Mary' Trailer

20 July 2017 11:43 AM, PDT | Rollingstone.com | See recent Rolling Stone news »

Taraji P. Henson expands her range to play an assassin in the forthcoming action film Proud Mary. Last year, the actress took home a Golden Globe for her portrayal of Cookie Lyon on Fox's Empire.

Tina Turner's famous cover of Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Proud Mary" plays over the trailer, which sees Henson's Mary Goodwin get ready and prepare her weapons for a job. As the classic song revs up, so does the action as she changes up her look and pursues her victims. Danny Glover and How to Get Away With Murder »

Taraji P. Henson Plays an Assassin in First Full Trailer for 'Proud Mary'

20 July 2017 11:16 AM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

"You a cop?" "Not exactly." Screen Gems has unveiled the first official trailer for a film titled Proud Mary, starring the always awesome Taraji P. Henson as an assassin. This is slated for release in early January, which is never a good sign, but I'm hopeful for something entertaining. We don't know much about this, except that Henson meets a young boy on a hit gone wrong and she decides to watch over him. The full cast includes Neal McDonough, Danny Glover, Xander Berkeley, Billy Brown, Margaret Avery, Jahi Di'Allo Winston, and Owen Burke. This is a very fun, clever trailer, without much dialogue in it (yet), relying entirely on the music, visuals, and some kick ass action. Damn! I'm looking forward to this already. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Babak Najafi's Proud Mary, originally from Buzzfeed: In the film, Oscar-nominated actress Taraji P. Henson is Mary, »

‘Proud Mary’ Trailer: Taraji P. Henson Is the Ass-Kicking Action Star Hollywood Needs Right Now

20 July 2017 8:28 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Action movies are not usually star vehicles for Hollywood actresses. Charlize Theron in “Atomic Blonde,” Angelina Jolie in “Salt” and Scarlett Johansson in “Lucy” are anomalies when they should be the standard, but Hollywood is slowly coming around to this fact. Case in point: “Proud Mary.” Never in a million years would the old Hollywood guard let the amazing Taraji P. Henson lead an action vehicle as a butt-kicking assassin, but it’s 2017 and we’re more than ready for this.

Casey Affleck Talks Working With Rooney Mara on ‘A Ghost Story’: She Doesn’t Need a ‘Ton of Dialogue’

4 July 2017 4:11 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

The creative team behind “A Ghost Story,” which received its European premiere at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival this week, has developed a sympatico relationship they intend to return to again, says Oscar-winning actor Casey Affleck, director David Lowery and the producer duo behind the idiosyncratic film and their next venture, “Old Man and the Gun.”

After finding their groove with 2013’s laconic western noir “Ain’t Them Bodies Saints,” the group, including producers Toby Halbrooks and James M. Johnston, was determined to return to small films, working as close colleagues.

“Everything I do is very personal,” Lowery says. “I don’t really think too much about why it is.”

Inspired by the true story of a bank robber with an incredible string of successful heists — and jail escapes — the group brought the “Old Man” script to Robert Redford and the project recently wrapped filming, with Elisabeth Moss, Sissy Spacek, Danny Glover and Keith Carradine. »

Here's What Jay-z's Mysterious "Kill Jay Z" Commercial Is All About

28 June 2017 9:10 AM, PDT | POPSUGAR | See recent BuzzSugar news »

It seems like just yesterday that Jay-z, née Shawn Carter, chose to drop the iconic hyphen from his stage name, but now, four years later, the hyphen has returned. Not only that, but the rapper has also upgraded his moniker to all uppercase letters. So: Jay-z (not to be confused with Jay-z or Jay Z - get it?). Anyway, the surprise name change comes hot on the heels of news that his highly anticipated new album, which we now know is titled 4:44, will drop Friday and likely deal with embracing a new chapter in his life. A week after Beyoncé gave birth to their twins, Jay released a mysterious, 23-second-long, black-and-white commercial for the album via Tidal and Sprint. The simple, cinematic clip is titled "Kill Jay Z," and features a young black man running down a street while wearing a t-shirt with the words "stay black" on it. »
