16 Moments From the 1999 VMAs That Can Never Be Topped

24 August 2016 7:30 AM, PDT | POPSUGAR | See recent BuzzSugar news »

The VMAs are this weekend, and while I'm excited about the upcoming show, I've been reminiscing about my favorite VMAs of all time: 1999. Chris Rock hosted, Smash Mouth and Blink-182 entertained during the preshow, Lauryn Hill was the queen of the moonmen, and Britney Spears joined *Nsync for a medley of ". . . Baby One More Time" and "Tearin' Up My Heart." Fatboy Slim spun to "Praise You," Jay Z performed three of his hits, and the Beastie Boys took home the first-ever hip-hop award. On top of that, presenters included Tom Green, David Bowie, Will Smith, Carson Daly, Janeane Garofalo, Mark McGrath, Jennifer Lopez, Johnny Depp, and, of course, Paul McCartney. Before this weekend's festivities, let's take a minute to remember what may be the greatest VMAs show of all time. »

The Adventures Of Pete And Pete: a 90s Nickelodeon classic

21 July 2016 12:09 PM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Seb Patrick Aug 23, 2016

We look back fondly at the innate weirdness of Nickelodeon's 90s show The Adventures Of Pete And Pete...

At some point in the early 1990s – I forget the exact year, but research tells me it must have been somewhere around late 1993 or early 1994 – something unbearably exciting happened in our suburb of Merseyside. The rumours went around the school playground in hushed whispers: “Have the cable vans been to your street yet?” Yes, cable TV was on its way to Crosby, meaning that for the first time, a world of viewing beyond the ordinary four terrestrial channels was available to homes without a whacking great ugly satellite dish glued to the outside.

Aside from the three major Sky titans – the football, the movies and The Simpsons – by far the biggest reason we all wanted to get cable was access to not one, not two, but three channels dedicated »

The character is described as cynical, streetwise and permanently unimpressed. Sam is a counterpoint to the wide-eyed young travelers she meets. She is quick to debunk their foolish, romantic notions about the world and the value of travel. The Foreign Bodies cast also includes: Anders Hayward, »

Kids Shows That Were Actually for Adults

25 May 2016 3:00 PM, PDT | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

Is it ever possible to truly grow up? Adults will inevitably tell you there are moments when they feel like frauds -- mere children disguised as grown-ups. And maybe that's the reason there are so many children's television series with considerable crossover appeal. Animated or live-action, these shows may be marketed to kids, but they possess a certain mature quality that brings in an adult fan base too.

It's a challenge for the creative people who make TV for kids: How do you entertain the youngsters while keeping the tone sophisticated enough to prevent adults from bolting out of the room? Sometimes, a show can lean so far in the direction of amusing the parents that its "for kids" classification feels inadequate. These are the TV series that tend to fly straight over children's heads and right into the brains and hearts of would-be grown-ups.

The American Side movie review: Tesla tease

3 May 2016 5:36 AM, PDT | www.flickfilosopher.com | See recent FlickFilosopher news »

Invoking fascinating conspiracy theories surrounding Nikola Tesla only to turn them into a macguffin, this neonoir detective flick ultimately disappoints. I’m “biast” (pro): nothing

I’m “biast” (con): nothing

(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)

A shady Buffalo private detective whose business seems to consist mostly of blackmailing cheating husbands stumbles into a bit of a conspiracy surrounding missing pages from Nikola Tesla’s diaries, landing him in interlocking schemes among nests of villains willing to do anything to get the documents back. If you know anything about Tesla — the scientist and inventor whose work has, in recent decades, become the stuff of myth — you are sure to be hugely disappointed by The American Side, because Tesla is nothing more than a tease here. Netflix's 'Wet Hot American Summer' Will Return in 2017, But 10 Years Later

27 April 2016 8:48 AM, PDT | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

How will the "Wet Hot American Summer" gang look in 1991? We'll find out in the second season on Netflix, this time following everyone 10 years after the events of the film and Season 1.

This all started as a 2001 movie, set on the last day of camp in 1981, which slowly became a cult classic comedy. In 2015, Netflix brought back the cast for "Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp," the hilarious prequel starring actors who were nearly 15 years older.

Now they're doing something that, age-wise, makes more sense: "Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later," a series of eight 30-minute episodes set in 1991, and scheduled to arrive in 2017. (We should probably expect an unhealthy dose of grunge and teen spirit.)

According to Netflix, David Wain and Michael Showalter will return as writers, with Wain also directing. There are no cast details at this point, but this series announcement video from »
