‘Ballers’ Season Finale Review: Here’s How Hard The Rock Balled in Season 2

25 September 2016 9:47 PM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

For those who have been following “Ballers” Season 2, you don’t need to be told the level of baller-dom that’s been achieved over these 10 episodes. But not every day was smooth sailing for these gladiators of the game that is life, as we’ve been privileged enough to observe.

Ricky Jerret (John David Washington) struggled to make perhaps the most important decision of his entire career — picking his next, and perhaps final, deal as a player. Charles (Omar Miller) suffered a devastating blow after being cut by the team, but found new opportunities after getting a job working in the front office with Larry (Dulé Hill). Joe (Rob Corddry) was confronted by the knowledge that he was only seen as secondary to his partner.

Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence are falling in love and solving a space mystery in first ‘Passengers’ trailer

20 September 2016 6:18 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

The first trailer for Passengers is finally here. We’ve been hearing about this film since 2010 — well before America’s sweethearts now starring in movie became America’s sweethearts, before Jennifer Lawrence was cast as Katniss Everdeen, when Chris Pratt was shooting the second season of Parks and Rec. Watch the trailer below, where you can also see Michael Sheen as a robot bartender and a brief glimpse at Laurence Fishburne and Andy Garcia: It’s a bit difficult to tell from this trailer what kind of movie this will be — it starts off rom-com but then the trailer morphs into psychological thriller for a bit then full-on space disaster movie. Maybe this is just the space Titanic (“You jump die, I jump die!”). The trailer’s certainly billing this to be much more of a disaster/action movie than the concept reported back in 2010. Then this was touted »

Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt shine in the “Passengers” Trailer

20 September 2016 5:49 AM, PDT | Hollywoodnews.com | See recent Hollywoodnews.com news »

There are few more charming potential romantic pairings right now in Hollywood than Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt. Put them together and I’d see them in just about anything. Luckily, their next project happens to be the hotly anticipated Passengers, which has been floating (no pun intended) around the industry for years. It’s now one of the big Christmas releases for 2016 and finally has released a first Trailer. Frankly, this is one of my most anticipated films of the year. You’ll be able to see that Trailer at the end of this piece, but first, let us discuss what this one has in store for us a bit! The film is a science fiction romance. Having read the screenplay, I’ll stay away from spoilers and stick to more or less what’s been said about the plot so far. Essentially, a giant ship is traveling to »

Coming Distractions: Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence face the unknown in first Passengers trailer

20 September 2016 4:02 AM, PDT | avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news »

The first trailer for Passengers has arrived, offering a first glimpse at the chemistry between its leads, Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt. The pair are just two of thousands of crew members aboard the Avalon, a starship on a 120-year voyage that requires a 120-year cryo-sleep for its passengers. But for reasons unknown to them, they’ve been awakened 90 years ahead of schedule, and they can’t just pop back into stasis. This means they’ll have died of old age by the time they get to the colony planet—that is, unless they’re done in by less natural causes well before then.

The Imitation Game’s Morton Tyldum directed from Prometheus scribe Jon Spaihts’ Black List-ed script, which makes the Alien nods make a little more sense here. The rom-sci-fi film also stars Michael Sheen (on wheels!), Andy Garcia, and Laurence Fishburne. Passengers makes its first stop ...

Max Steel Trailer Offers Up The Toy Adaptation You Weren’t Expecting

6 September 2016 6:50 AM, PDT | AreYouScreening.com | See recent AreYouScreening news »

Max Steel hits theaters October 14th, and the new trailer offers up a film that feels, perhaps appropriately, like a throwback.

In an age when audiences find themselves forced into conflict over their response to the endless reboots, sequels of long-dead franchises, and adaptations that ultimately make no sense (because things like The Lego Movie come along and blow them away), Max Steel still might not be the toy you were expecting to see on the big screen.

There may be a lot of reasons for that, including the fact that the line of toys doesn’t seem to take up half an aisle at your local store, and that the original TV show came out in 2000 (with a direct-to-video movie coming out almost every year since, until the show’s reboot in 2013), but the name isn’t in heavy rotation on any of the channels your kids force you to watch. »

Kevin James is a mall cop no more in first images for Netflix’s True Memoirs of an International Assassin

2 September 2016 3:30 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

It looks like Kevin James has traded in his mall cop badge for a license to kill in the first official images for True Memoirs of an International Assassin. Check out the two never-before-seen stills from the upcoming action comedy below…

The film stars James as Sam Larson, a would-be author who is mistaken for an international assassin after his book about a hitman is accidentally published as a true story. As a result of this misunderstanding, the mild-mannered Larson gets trapped between the CIA and drug lords and wrapped up in an assassination plot.

Appearing alongside James in the film are such actors as Zulay Henao (Takers), Andy Garcia (Ghostbusters), Kim Coates (Sons of Anarchy), Emilie Ullerup (Sanctuary), Kelen Coleman (The Office), P.J. Byrne (The Legend of Korra), Maurice Compte (Narcos) and Rob Riggle (22 Jump Street).

James may be coming off of a few box office disappointments, between last »

New Us Trailer for Toy Adaptation 'Max Steel' Starring Ben Winchell

31 August 2016 6:46 PM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

"Max - you can use your energy in many different ways: you can run faster, be stronger." Another toy movie! Open Road Films has debuted the official Us trailer for the Max Steel movie, adapted from one of Mattel's popular line of toys. The movie is about the adventures of teenager Max McGrath, played by Ben Winchell, and his alien companion Steel - when they combine powers they become "Max Steel". The movie also features Josh Brener, Ana Villafane, Andy Garcia, Maria Bello and Mike Doyle. The villain seems to be some other weird alien force that comes after Steel and the people of Earth. This is some serious sci-fi and I'm glad they don't hold back in that aspect, but the rest of it seems a bit too cheesy for my tastes. I have no connection to the toys, but I kind of wish this looked better than it does, »

Max Steel: first international trailer

Ryan Lambie Aug 23, 2016

Mattel action figure and superhero Max Steel gets his first feature film this year. Here's the first trailer to prove it...

If such disparate movies as Robosapien, Battleship and Jem And The Holograms have anything in common, it's that they all prove that not every movie based on a toy or board game can be a roaring success like Michael Bay's Transformers franchise. Bay's robot action movies may be bullet-proof when it comes to reviews, but audiences don't always turn out in huge numbers to see a film based on a familiar name.

This might explain why, following a development period which began way back in 2009, the marketing for Max Steel feels rather apologetic. Based on Mattel's 90s line of action figures, the movie's an origin story about Max McGrath (Ben Winchell), a young man with extraordinary powers of speed and strength.

Way back in July 2014, five new photos were released for Max Steel, along with commentary from director Stewart Hendler. At the time, the movie was set to be released in 2015, but that was the last we've heard from this adaptation, until now. Today we have the first international trailer for Max Steel, starring Ben Winchell as the title character, and the movie has been given an October 21 release date.

While no reason was given for the movie's delay, its new release date falls during one of the busiest weekends of the year.
