Well here's a strange and unfortunate bit of news that, while perhaps somewhat tabloid-y, seems like it deserves to be mentioned nonetheless. TMZ is reporting this week that actor Nick Stahl (Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Sin City, Carnivale) has gone missing. His wife filed a missing person report on Monday, fearing for his well-being and suspecting that he was using drugs. He had supposedly been hanging out in the Skid Row area of Downtown Los Angeles recently, and back in February he had also been arrested for failing to pay a taxi driver. While a Hollywood star using drugs is nothing new, what's weird in this case is that for years there has been talk of a Terminator-related "curse", with bad things befalling every single actor who has ever played John Connor. Everyone, that is, except for Nick Stahl. Up until now, he had been the only actor to escape its clutches, »

Actor who played John Connor in 2003's Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, has not been seen by his family since 9 May
Terminator star Nick Stahl has been reported missing by his wife, according to reports.
Stahl, who took the lead John Connor role in 2003's Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, has not been seen by his family since 9 May. His estranged wife Roseann filed a missing persons report with Lapd on Monday, according to TMZ. Earlier this year she filed court documents asking for her husband's visitation rights with their daughter Marlo to be cut to eight supervised hours per week owing to what she claimed was his regular drug use.
Stahl, 32, has had a number of brushes with the law recently, and it is feared he may be frequenting the notorious Skid Row quarter of Los Angeles, where crime, poverty and drug use are rife. Terminator 2 star »

"I live off the grid," he told viewers when playing John Connor in Terminator 3, but now Nick Stahl has disappeared for real. The actor, who reportedly has problems with alcohol and may have developed a drug habit, was last seen a week ago in the Skid Row district of Los Angeles. A missing persons report has now been formally filed by his wife, Rose Murphy, from whom he recently separated.
Since appearing in the Terminator film Stahl has worked extensively in television and has had smaller roles in some hit films, including Sin City. He has, however, had several altercations with the law. His agreement with Murphy requires him to submit to drug tests before he can visit their daughter.
Ironically, Stahl was chosen for the iconic role of John Connor after its previous occupant, Edward Furlong, was found unconscious due to a heroin overdose. Furlong suffered from ongoing problems with. »

The seemingly endless wait for the Syfy summer schedule is finally over! There is good news and bad, and one thing that is both good and bad. Let’s start with that: the Eureka Season Finale. We love Eureka, so every episode is good news; the fact that it’s a series finale, not so much. Mark your calendars – and have plenty of Kleenex in stock – for July 16 at 9/8c. Right after Comic-Con, which is early this year. We’ll see if that means a panel or not.
The good news: Warehouse 13 and Alphas return on July 23. The hmmm news is that Lost Girl will move to Fridays at 10 on July 20. Hey That’S Haven’S Spot. So Where The Heck Is Haven? Admittedly we had a head’s up that Haven would be pushed to fall when we learned that the DVDs for Season 2 weren’t being released until September but Argh. »

SyFy continue to churn out their below-par low-budget creature features with yet another new natural world anomaly flick that'll get those spidey senses heightened. 'Arachnoquake' stars Edward Furlong ('Terminator 2: Judgement Day') and is the story of gigantic spiders that get unleashed from the Earth's core following a New Orleans Earthquake only to begin feeding on the unsuspecting locals. The Griff Furst directed movie will arrive on the SyFy channel stateside on 23 June and also stars Tracey Gold, Bug Hall, Ethan Phillips, Megan Adelle and the sexy Olivia Hardt (below). Paul A. Birkett and Eric Forsberg penned the script »

SyFy’s latest creation, specifically director Griff Furst’s sci-fi/horror outing “Arachnoquake”, takes two unbelievably horrifying elements and violently rolls into one potentially awesome small screen blockbuster. Is this just another example of my penchant for unchecked, unabashed hyperbole, you ask? Not really. I’m genuinely excited about the flick, mostly due to my secret passion for spider movies. And if they’re giant spiders, well, that’s even better. I may shriek like a baby with a broken rattle while I’m watching it, but you can rest assured I’m having an absolute blast. This synopsis looks like something you’ll need: In Arachnoquake massive earthquakes unleash giant albino spiders. Freed from their ancient subterranean prison, the spiders go on a murderous rampage through New Orleans. Adding to the movie’s unrelenting appeal is its cast, which includes Edward Furlong, Bug Hall (“Little Rascals”, “The Stupids”), and Tracey “Growing Pains” Gold. »

Yeah, yeah, say what you will, but nothing floats our boats quite like a giant spider flick, which is why we are chomping at the bit to see Syfy's Arachnoquake when it debuts on June 23rd. To tide us over in the meantime, here's the first look at the giant albino spider around which the story revolves.
Arachonoquake stars Tracey Gold and Edward Furlong with Ethan Philips and Bug Hall rounding out the cast. Griff Furst directs.

If the name Edward Furlong usually has you reaching for the remote or even more drastically some sort of weapon, then you’ll be thrilled to hear that in Below Zero he gives a rather splendid performance as a hung-over screenwriter/hack who’s locked in a meat freezer until he can finish his latest script or else he’s (cold) toast. The actual script for the film was written by Signe Olynyk who locked herself in a meat freezer to write the film, and the film is about a man trapped in a freezer, and in the film he decides to base his idea on is the concept of a man trapped in a meat freezer too. Talk about meta-fiction.

James Cameron is, in case it has escaped your attention, the most successful filmmaker in history. The Canadian director hadn't exactly been starved for box-office smashes early in his career, but his last two films, "Titanic" and "Avatar," have hauled in nearly $5 billion between them, and are currently the number one and number two hits of all time. He's also the man behind the "Terminator" franchise, helmed one of the best-liked of the "Alien" series, has become a deep-sea explorer, and, uh, gave the world flying piranhas.
This week sees "Titanic" back on screens in post-converted 3D form, and given that we're still at least two years away from seeing the filmmaker's next work ("Avatar 2" and "Avatar 3" are currently targeted for around 2014/2015), it seemed like a good opportunity to look back on his career and see how he went from a visual effects whiz on "Escape From New York »

Canada, 2011
The only thing worse than a formulaic horror film is one that doesn’t scare you, and the only thing worse than both is the unholy marriage of the two. Thankfully, in Justin Thomas Ostensen’s postmodern thriller, Below Zero, there’s now a manuscript that can tell us how these films went wrong, why they went wrong, and why they are still being done wrong. However, besides pinpointing the problems, the film itself does not provide solutions, and although Below Zero starts off white hot, it ultimately leaves you feeling ice cold.
The film centers on Jack (Edward Furlong), a hack screenwriter whose agent elicits the help of local, gregarious single mother named Penny (Kristin Booth) to lock him in a meat freezer for five days, in a bizarre exercise humorously coined as ‘method writing’. Once trapped, »

From Justin Thomas Ostensen comes the new thriller Below Zero. The film focuses on a screenwriter (Edward Furlong) who locks himself in a slaughterhouse freezer in the face of looming deadline. Left with nothing but his own demons to distract him, he writes the story of a tow truck driver who finds himself accidentally locked in a slaughterhouse freezer with the barely alive victim of a serial killer. Naturally, reality and fiction eventually mer… »

Cinema really is a wonderful thing, a true spectacle and a glowing indication of our soaring creative spirits, with billions of dollars and months of man hours dedicated to building dream worlds for us to experience, a shot at escapism and enraptured obsession a million miles from our dreary lives.
So it makes sense that nitpicking said wonders is a pretty popular activity, an amusing one at that, that gives balance to a universe that for a while looked a little too optimistic. Whether it’s Scorcese’s magic cigarettes, or Mr Spock’s startlingly brief turbolift voyage, we’ve all noted the little things, and celebrated them inside, a small, petty victory for the everyman. After all, what’s more satisfying than taking the revered down a peg or two?
But sometimes a film makes a crucial, shatteringly paradoxical mistake, an error in scripting or style or construct, which »

Fantasia may get most of the attention, but the Canadian Film Fest is another annual event put on by our neighbors to the north devoted to the celebration, promotion, and advancement of filmmaking - only their focus is strictly on homegrown Canadian talent.
One of the most fun showcases of filmmaking talent in the country, the Canadian Film Fest is back with a vengeance this year at Toronto's Royal Cinema running March 28th-31st.
Best of all for horror fans is the news that three new Canadian genre films made the final cut, including dark thriller Below Zero (Thursday, March 29th, 9.55pm), horror chiller The Unleashed (Friday, March 30th, 9.55pm) and Closing Gala zombie comedy A Little Bit Zombie (Saturday, March 31st, 9pm). There's also a number of new Canadian sci-fi shorts playing.

College kids run around a cemetery on Hallowe'en and a girl falls into an open grave and lands on a Db. Jo (Sela Ward) comments, "It's not often you find a Db where it actually belongs." Mac (Gary Sinise) claims he was dead before he got here. Flack (Eddie Cahill) is canvassing the area for a murder weapon and Jo asks, "expecting the dead to speak." The Db was hit before the fall. Nice moment between Jo and Flack that's what gives this show so much more in terms of character development and why it deserves to continue. That and great storylines. Oh okay I've had my rant at the beginning, never mind! The Db has four phones on him, which Flack calls overkill Mac: "...so does dying in somebody else's grave." Fisher (David Burke) is responsible for the cemetery and claims he isn't trained to handle this kind of death, »

Danny Dyer has claimed that he auditioned for the role of Robin in Batman & Robin. The part in fact went to Chris O'Donnell, who had played it in the preceding movie Batman Forever and starred opposite George Clooney. Asked about the roles he had missed out on, Dyer told Popbitch: "Well I auditioned for American History X - I got quite close to that. "I mean, I totally understand that Edward Furlong was amazing in it, and he is American so they went down that route with it." He added: "I auditioned for Primal Fear as well and ironically that was weird, because Edward Norton got that part! I auditioned for Robin in Batman & Robin with Joel Schumacher. "It's strange really because for every one part you get, you lose (more) »

With the Academy Awards now just a week away, large doses of scrutiny are being shoved down the collective throats of the twinkling stars standing in line and hoping for their very own statuette.
Odds are that when the nominations are announced every year, there will be at least one somewhat surprising contender, whether he/she be an unknown, or simply dwells in an artistically shunned corner of the film world…no names mentioned, Jonah.
What is more of a startling occurrence is when said unfancied also-ran is announced as the victor, with their Celebrity Square suddenly expanding, and their face contorted with disbelief and unguarded astonishment in front of millions of amazed viewers.
But just how often is the wild card winner the champion of the future? Is the bookie-breaking hero of the night getting the ultimate kick start into superstardom and legend, an easily carried poisoned chalice, or »

You would think from looking at the cover of The Mortician that the film somehow involves the story of a crazed and violent mortician wandering the streets of London circa 1890. And that maybe, just maybe he was dead and didn't know it. He is wearing and consulting a pocket watch after all and the film's tag line, "A Dead Man Living in a Dying City," doesn't do much to convince me otherwise. Fast forward to the end of the movie when I finally realized that The Mortician is merely a film about a lonely mortician who likes to wear outdated clothes. Whoops!

After months of casting, one of the male leads has finally emerged in the long awaited Evil Dead remake. Shiloh Fernandez, best known to horror fans for his unforgettable role in the chiller Deadgirl (as well as the equally forgettable Red Riding Hood) landed a part in the film. Variety is reporting that the actor is playing the male lead though no other info regarding the character has been released as of yet. The remake to the 1981 horror film is being directed by Fede Alvarez. As of last week, our sources tell us that auditions were still being held for the remaining male and female roles. Who knows if this may cause a delay in the film production. Does anyone else thinks he kind of looks like a more drugged-out Edward Furlong? Just a thought.

Check out the images from the indie horror movie Below Zero. Looking at the images and trailer below helped me warm up from this cold Tennessee night. The story is said to be "based on true events," but this is not what you are thinking. The story being told is not a real story at all, while I guess it is technically. Rather, the screenwriter put herself into the same situation the movie's protagonist finds himself in and wrote the movie. The film is directed by Justin Thomas Ostensen, stars Edward Furlong (T2, Night of the Demons, The Crow: Wicked Prayer) and genre vet Michael Berryman (The Hills Have Eyes, The Lords of Salem) along with Kristin Booth (The Kennedys). »
