As he prepares to unleash a fresh round of alien chaos on the world with Independence Day 2, director Roland Emmerich is busy gathering some of the original film’s cast to supplement the newcomers. Three new/old faces have been added to the list with Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch and Vivica A. Fox confirmed as returning. Today we celebrate our #IndependenceDay sequel. Welcome back, Bill Pullman. pic.twitter.com/hR3qisg70i— Roland Emmerich (@rolandemmerich) April 17, 2015Pullman, whose recruitment has been mooted for a while, will be back as the former President Thomas J. Whitmore, last seen giving rallying speeches and slipping back into fighter pilot togs to take the fight to the extra-terrestrial threat. Hirsch played Julius Levinson, father to Jeff Goldblum’s David, who is also back. And Fox is Jasmine Dubrow, mother of Jessie Usher’s Dylan, the son of Will Smith’s character (Smith is still not set to return, »
You know you're psyched to see Roland Emmerich blow up more stuff in Independence Day 2: Independence Harder (just kidding — it's called Independence Day Forever, and it'll have two parts). Now you can get even more psyched for the return of President Whitmore, the greatest American president ever (he flies a fighter jet in a siege against interplanetary genocidal aliens). According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bill Pullman has been reelected (so to speak) and will reprise the role of Whitmore for the sequel. Emmerich’s original Independence Day, which made more than $800 million in 1996, has entered the pop-culture pantheon, thanks in no small part to Pullman’s oft-quoted speech near the end of the film. Vivica A. Fox will be returning to play Will Smith's wife, though Smith himself will not be returning to save mankind a second time. Alongside Pullman, the inimitable Jeff Goldblum will return as genius, »

It's been nearly 20 years since Bill Pullman climbed those steps and delivered one of the greatest speeches in movie history as President Thomas J. Whitmore. Now we have a chance, 20 years later, to see him in that iconic role once more.
This news was reported by, the rightfully excited, Director Roland Emmerich on his twitter page.
The two Independence Day alums join fellow former co-stars Jeff Goldblum and Vivica A. Fox. Along with the veterans, Independence Day 2 will also feature Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher, Charlotte Gainsbourg, among others.

There’s been talk of Bill Pullman’s return as President Thomas J. Whitmore in Independence Day 2 for a while, but now it’s finally official - although technically he can’t be president anymore, right? Regardless, not only did Roland Emmerich announce Pullman’s return, but he also revealed that Judd Hirsch will be back as well. Hirsch played David’s (Jeff Goldblum) father Julius Levinson in the original. So now the list of returning cast members includes Pullman, Hirsch, Goldblum, Brent Spiner as Dr. Brackish Okun, the kooky scientist at Area 51, and Vivica A. Fox as Captain Steven Hiller’s (Will Smith) wife, Jasmine Dubrow. As for the newcomers, we’ve got Liam Hemsworth as President Whitmore’s son-in-law, Jessie Usher as Steven Hiller’s son (presumably an older Dylan Dubrow), Travis Tope as a character named Charlie, and Charlotte Gainsbourg and Joey King in unknown roles. »

Just recently, we learned that Brent Spiner was going to join returning cast members Jeff Goldblum and Vivica A. Fox for the long-gestating Independence Day 2, the sequel that's essentially been in the works for 20 years. And now two more cast members from the original 1996 blockbuster directed by Roland Emmerich have been revealed. The filmmaker himself just posted to Twitter confirming that Bill Pullman, now former President Whitmore, and Judd Hirsch, Jeff Goldblum's character's father Julius Levinson, will both be back in the film. With production set to begin next month, Roland Emmerich has been slowly, but surely, getting his cast together for Independence Day 2, with newcomers Joey King, Liam Hemsworth, Jamie Usher, Charlotte Gainsborough, and Travis Tope taking their places beside the old guard of Vivica A. Fox, Brent Spiner, and Jeff Goldblum. Now, two more familiar faces are making are returning, with Emmerich taking to Twitter to first announce that Judd Hirsch would be reprising the role of Julius Levinson, cantankerous father to Goldblum's scientist David. It's official... we're thrilled to have the Great Judd Hirsch grace the set of #IndependenceDay once again! pic.twitter.com/vSIEQsZwjb — Roland Emmerich (@rolandemmerich) April 17, 2015 He later returned to tweet something we all expected, that Bill Pullman will be back as, by now former, President Thomas J. Whitmore, no doubt delivering yet another rousing speech to rally humanity to the monument destroying alien threat. Today we. »

Sequels to massive summer blockbusters arrive in theaters with a built-in audience who, like most people, want to see a story to its conclusion. An added bonus for those same moviegoers is when studios manage to corral the same actors back into the fold. You know, so you’re not left wondering why Tony Stark’s dad looks loads different to the last time you saw him. Luckily, Roland Emmerich has for the most part convinced the cast of Independence Day to reprise their roles for its sequel Independence Day 2 (which may be called Independence Day Forever: Part 1).
While Will Smith has turned down offers to star (’cause he’s busy filming a little movie called Suicide Squad), the majority of his onscreen chums have said yes to those same exact opportunities. Jeff Goldblum, Vivica A. Fox and even Brent Spiner have signed on for another battle with the extraterrestrials. »

Today, director Roland Emmerich is celebrating his Independence Day 2 sequel with some pretty big casting announcements. We've heard for a while that original ID4 star Bill Pullman will be returning to fight another day. While that has now been officially confirmed this morning, we also get the surprise revelation that fan-favorite icon Judd Hirsch is also going to return for this epic blockbuster!
Judd Hirsch will officially reprise his role as Julius Levinson, the cantankerous father of Jeff Goldblum's David Levinson. Goldblum was confirmed for the sequel after much speculation earlier this year. Bill Pullman, who has also long been suspected to return, will once again don his three-piece apocalyptic presidential wear to play former Potus Thomas J. Whitmore!

To Roland Emmerich's credit, he's going to great lengths to make up for the lack of Will Smith in Independence Day 2. Jeff Goldblum, Liam Hemsworth, Vivica Fox, Charlotte Gainsbourg, and Jessie User have already signed on for lead roles, but fan favorite Brent Spiner has also been confirmed, and we have another big member of the first movie making a return trip. Independence Day 2 director Roland Emmerich took to his Twitter page yesterday to confirm two more cast members for his sequel, Brent Spiner and Joey King. Brent Spiner is reprising his role from the original 1996 classic Independence Day as Dr. Brackish Okun, although it isn't known who Joey King may be playing. In the original, Dr. Okun was one of the scientists working on a secret government program that examined the aliens that crashed several years before the invasion in the movie.
Brent Spiner and Joey King join a cast that includes original Independence Day stars Jeff Goldblum (David Levinson) and Vivica A. Fox (Jasmine Dubrow), with Bill Pullman's Thomas Whitmore expected to reprise his role as well. New cast members include Jessie Usher, Liam Hemsworth, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Travis Tope. Will Smith will not reprise his role as pilot Stephen Hiller for the sequel.

It looks like Jeff Goldblum and Vivica A. Fox won't be the only returning original cast members from Independence Day who come back for the sequel from director Roland Emmerich. The filmmaker took to Twitter to reveal that Brent Spiner will be back for Independence Day 2. In the original film, Spiner played Dr. Brackish Okun, one of the scientists who worked on the secret government program studying aliens before the invasion happened in Independence Day. He was a weird guy, and we would have thought that he died after his encounter with one of the aliens in the first film, but apparently he's alive and kicking. Here's the tweets in question from Roland Emmerich and Brent Spiner with the news: This just in... @JoeyKingActress and @BrentSpiner officially signed for #IndependenceDay - Welcome aboard!— Roland Emmerich (@rolandemmerich) April 9, 2015 Never release me. https://t.co/I3ims9itVz— Brent Spiner (@BrentSpiner) April 10, 2015 However, »

Spiner will reprise the role of eccentric scientist Dr. Brackish Okun whom he played in the original 1996 film and appeared to have been either left for dead or in a coma in the first film.
King's role is unknown at this point. The pair join a cast that includes Jeff Goldblum, Vivica Fox, Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher and Charlotte Gainsbourg. Pre-production is underway ahead of filming this Summer.

Don’t you hate that each year Awards Season seems to creep ever earlier in the calendar year? God! Can’t you just go one film festival without speculating whether it will be an Oscar contender, or whether it has the legs to survive such an increasingly long awards season? Geez, I can’t imagine why so many Sundance movies struggle to make a lasting impact over a year later when conversations beating it into the ground start this early!
What movie are we talking about again? Furious 7? Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha ah ah ha.
Wait, really? And you’re telling me it’s over? Pack it up, we’re going home? The race is completely in the bag? This Best Picture race was done before it started? It would be like if Meryl Streep starred as Jesus and was wrongly trapped as a slave for 12 years? Except it’s Furious 7 »
