Hear what the Porgs from Star Wars: The Last Jedi sound like

20 August 2017 4:20 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Earlier this month we got our first look at the Porgs – small, puffin-like creatures who live with Luke Skywalker on the planet of Ahch-To in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Reaction to the new creatures was somewhat mixed – “they’re the new Ewoks!” – and now we have a video of a Porg toy which lets us know what the little fellas sound like; check it out here via Star Wars News Net…

Cute? Annoying? I guess we’ll have to wait until December to find out for sure…

Adam Driver teases an “unexpected” Kylo Ren development in Star Wars: The Last Jedi

19 August 2017 6:30 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

With the marketing for Star Wars: The Last Jedi starting to heat up ahead of its December release, Adam Driver has been speaking about returning to the role of Ben Solo – a.k.a. Kylo Ren – teasing an “unexpected” development for the fallen Jedi.

Asked by Sunday Today host Willie Geist (via THR) if fans “will be happy with what happens to Kylo”, Driver responded that: “God, I hope. I think it will be hopefully unexpected.”

Details on Kylo Ren’s involvement in the plot for Star Wars: The Last Jedi have been kept tightly under wraps, so we can only speculate as to what this unexpected development might be: Could he add his mother Leia Organa or uncle Luke Skywalker to his list of kills? Might he turn on Supreme Leader Snoke and come back to the Light Side? Or could he even tempt Rey to the Dark Side? »

John Boyega seemingly confirms Star Wars: The Last Jedi cameos

18 August 2017 4:15 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

While Star Wars: The Last Jedi is shrouded in secrecy, it seems that John Boyega has had enough of being asked about two potential cameos in the hotly-anticipated blockbuster, with the actor seemingly confirming the rumours that Tom Hardy and Prince William and Prince Harry are set to pop up in the galaxy far, far away.

“I’ve had enough with those Prince William secrets, man,” said Boyega during an appearance on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme. “They came on set; they were there, man. Tom Hardy was there, too – I said it. I’m sick of hiding this… Every time I get asked I don’t know how to dodge it. Yeah, they were on set.”

Rian Johnson trusted his “inner fan” while making Star Wars: The Last Jedi

17 August 2017 2:05 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

It must feel daunting to direct a new entry in the Star Wars franchise, and actually be a fan yourself. The pressure to not screw the film up must be immense — after all, people are still ripping on the prequels to this day. The first installment in this revitalized trilogy fared well with critics, and now it’s Rian Johnson’s turn with The Last Jedi. How did he handle the stress of writing and directing the film? During an interview with Hamilton director Thomas Kail for The Star Wars Show, Johnson divulges the two key aspects that helped him feel at ease while making the film:

“Once I actually jumped into it, it was the most fun I’ve ever had writing. It was the least scary process. I think part of it was, I wasn’t alone for the process. I was writing on my own, but I »

Emmys 2017: Was the TV Academy on Autopilot When Nominating Comedies?

16 August 2017 8:10 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

At first glance, this year’s Emmy noms may seem like a boon for new programs. A whopping five freshman shows are nominated for best drama series, projecting a considerable sense of freshness. But when you cast the spotlight over to the comedy side, it’s difficult to shake a sense of stagnancy.

Granted, across the major categories (series, acting, directing, writing), more comedies were Emmy-nominated overall this year than dramas — 17 to 15. But FX’s “Atlanta” (best series, lead actor, directing and writing) and “Better Things” (lead actress) were the only two new comedies recognized on July 13.

It seems as if every year the same question lurks going into nominations: How much will voters revert to standbys in the face of the ongoing peak TV glut? Among other things, the presence of ABC’s “Modern Family” in the comedy series category suggests a level of autopilot may have kicked in. That »

How Han Solo will factor into Star Wars: The Last Jedi, according to Daisy Ridley

13 August 2017 10:03 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Spoilers for Star Wars: The Force Awakens lie below…

One of the biggest shockers in Star Wars: The Force Awakens was the cruel and tragic death of Han Solo at the hands of his own son Kylo Ren. It was a devastating moment for fans everywhere, and according to series star Daisy Ridley, that loss will be felt heavily in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Speaking to Cinema Blend, the actress talks about Han’s death, Kylo Ren, and how it taps into Rey’s own past:

“She just doesn’t understand Kylo. When all she wanted was parents, why would a person who has parents do that? It’s so beyond comprehension, it’s ridiculous. So she has grief for the loss and then there’s anger. To be honest, she couldn’t understand doing something like that — let alone to your parents.”

Star Wars: The Last Jedi’s Rian Johnson and Daisy Ridley on the importance of Rey’s parentage

12 August 2017 11:45 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

It’s already been confirmed that this December’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi will “absolutely address” the question of Rey’s parents, providing an answer to one of the biggest mysteries from 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens. But just how important will this reveal prove to be to the story? In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, both director Rian Johnson and actress Daisy Ridley have shared their thoughts:

“To me, it’s important insofar as it’s important to her,” states Johnson. “And I think it’s important to her in terms of what is her place in all of this? What’s going to define her in this story? She was told in the last movie that the answer’s not in the past; it’s looking forward. But she’s showing up on this island to talk to this hero from the past. You can be »

These Guys Were Almost Han Solo in Star Wars, Not Harrison Ford

12 August 2017 12:56 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

When Lucasfilm announced plans for a standalone Han Solo prequel, there didn't seem to be an actor in Hollywood who didn't want a crack at playing the younger version of the character made famous by Harrison Ford. Producer Kathleen Kennedy and the film's original directing team looked at a slew of actors between the ages of 17 and 34. At one point, the short list reportedly included Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Dave Franco, Jack Raynor, Scott Eastwood, Logan Lerman, Emory Cohen, and Blake Jenner, before the role was ultimately given to Alden Aron-Reich. But the search for the original Han Solo was just as wide searching, and possibly a little more difficult to nail down, with quit a few Hollywood icons targeted for the role.

Since the release of the original Star Wars film in 1977, a slew of names have surfaced as prospective would-be Millennium Falcon piloting smugglers who were nearly cast »

Samantha Bee Challenges John Oliver for Talk Series Emmy — IndieWire’s Screen Talk Emmy Predictions Podcast (Episode 5)

As Emmy campaigning hits critical mass, IndieWire executive editor Michael Schneider and awards editor Anne Thompson go toe to toe on this week’s Emmy predictions for various variety and guest star Emmys.

Will “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” repeat its win for Best Variety Talk Series and writing, now that newbies “Full Frontal with Samantha Bee” and “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” are competing with more anti-Trump fodder?

Saturday Night Live’ is up for a whopping 22 nominations, including several hosts nominated as Guest Actors and Actresses, although the late Carrie Fisher could take a sentimental win in comedy for “Catastrophe,” and Matthew Rhys and Riz Ahmed could cancel each other out as guests on “Girls.”

How many of you thought that much of when he showed up in the The Force Awakens? Anyone think he was just a one and done kind of guy? Rian Johnson discusses Carrie Fisher’s role in Star Wars: The Last Jedi

11 August 2017 12:10 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

While there’s plenty of excitement for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the release will be certainly bittersweet, given that it will mark the final time we get to see Carrie Fisher in the role of Leia Organa, the actress having sadly passed away this past December.

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, writer-director Rian Johnson has been speaking about Fisher’s role as General Leia in the hotly-anticipated blockbuster:

“[Leia has] suffered quite a bit,” states Johnson. “While I was figuring out what her deal was going to be in this film, it’s one of the things I talked about with Carrie before I started writing: where the character would go… There’s no way that we could’ve known this would’ve been the last Star Wars movie she would be in, so it’s not like we made the film thinking that we were bringing closure to the character. »
