Ryan O'Neal Concerned About Family Fallout From New Book

14 May 2012 3:18 AM, PDT | Cinemaretro.com | See recent CinemaRetro news »

Happier times for O"Neal: with long time love Farrah Fawcett.

Ryan O'Neal has a new book about his experiences during his lover Farrah Fawcett's final days. After spending decades trying to patch up contentious relationships with his three children, he sent them advance copies of the manuscript so they did not get blindsided by the stories he related. One son has not read it (he's in rehab) and the response from the other two offspring, including Tatum O'Neal, was decidedly unenthusiastic. O'Neal, who is battling stage 4 prostate cancer, says he is doing all he can to repair the long history of family feuds but is concerned he may have been too candid in the book regarding personal matters. American Idol: Who Deserves to Get Cut This Week?

9 May 2012 8:45 PM, PDT | BuzzSugar | See recent BuzzSugar news »

We had a dual theme this week on American Idol. "California Dreaming" - which essentially meant songs about California, written by artists from California, or songs that were written in or around the state of California - was the first, followed by a round of songs that the contestants "wished they had written." Phillip Phillips started off the show with Ccr's classic "Have You Ever Seen the Rain." Normally, Phillip is totally my bag, but this rendition was a little Los Lonely Boys-y for my taste. Hollie whipped out Journey's "Faithfully," which paired nicely with the Farrah Fawcett 'do the stylists gave her. Joshua Ledet went with "You Raise Me Up," which was right in his wheelhouse, and impressive as usual. It was slightly disconcerting to see 16-year-old Jessica Sanchez wobble around on those sky-high heels during her performance of "Steal Away," but the vocals were ridiculous. Sitting on large »

Ryan O'Neal On His Children's Reaction To New Farrah Fawcett Book

8 May 2012 10:15 AM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Actor Ryan O'Neal relives his final days with Farrah Fawcett in his new book "Both of Us: My Life with Farrah" -- a book that he hopes and prays doesn't divide him from his once-estranged children.

"First of all, Redmond [Fawcett O'Neal] hasn’t read it because he can't," Ryan told me on the set of "New York Live." "He cannot deal with that yet about his mother, certainly not inside a rehab. Patrick read it and thought it was wonderful, but was a bit uncomfortable with how honest I was. Tatum read it and gave me a six-word text that said, 'Yeah it was okay, it's pretty good.' I wanted her to read it so we don't start fighting again. I said, 'We were getting along, and then you will read the book and I've lost you again.'"

Confessing that parenthood has been very hard for him, Ryan says »

Redmond O'Neal's Knife Threat Over Parents' Arguments

3 May 2012 1:06 AM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Ryan O'Neal and Farrah Fawcett were once shocked out of a fight after their young son Redmond threatened to stab himself through the heart.

The couple endured a tumultuous 30-year romance before the Charlie's Angels beauty passed away in 2009, and O'Neal admits his youngest son's troubles started at an early age when he witnessed their regular arguments.

The pair soon learned to keep their bust-ups away from their child's eyes after he wandered in to one altercation with a knife pointed at his chest when he was just six years old.

Speaking of his fiery relationship with Fawcett, O'Neal tells CNN's Piers Morgan, "She went into a bathroom and I punched the door and the door collapsed and hit her in the eye and I broke my hand. I was looking at her eye and she was getting ice for my hand, those kinds of things were horrible. And one time we were close to a fight and Redmond came into the room with knife and held it to his heart and said, 'If you don't stop I'll plunge it into myself.' It was awful, just awful.

"He was exposed to two people who loved each other very much and it confused him, this was not what he was used to. It was the decision he decided to take to stop us." »

Ryan O'Neal: 'It Was Unfair Of Me To Blame Mums For Kids' Drug Woes'

2 May 2012 6:31 PM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Ryan O'Neal regrets blaming the mothers of his kids for their drug problems, insisting the off-hand remark was "unfair".

O'Neal's sons Griffin and Redmond are currently incarcerated in jail and rehab for drug-related issues, while the actor's daughter Tatum has battled drug abuse for years.

The Love Story star recently blamed the children's mothers Joanna Cook-Moore and Farrah Fawcett for their woes, but during an appearance on Access Hollywood Live on Wednesday, he accepted the full brunt of the blame.

He said, "That was unfair of me. I'll take credit for it all... I'm the father.

"I take the full responsibility for as much of it as I can. Some of this they were able to do on their own."

Earlier this week (begs30Apr12), O'Neal confessed to being a bad dad, admitting he could have done better when his kids were growing up.

During an interview on U.S. breakfast show Today on Tuesday, the actor said, "I wasn't trained." »

Ryan O'Neal Battling More Than One Cancer

1 May 2012 6:36 PM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Ailing actor Ryan O'Neal has revealed he's battling more than one cancer - and he's ready to die if that's his destiny.

The Love Story star has delayed vital treatment on his grade two prostate cancer so he can promote his new memoir about his life with late girlfriend Farrah Fawcett - and he accepts the decision could prove costly to his health.

In a candid interview with U.S. news show Access Hollywood on Tuesday, O'Neal said, "The book cried out to be sold and so I decided to do that first and then I'll address my cancers... I feel fine."

Asked by host Billy Bush if he cares whether he lives or dies, O'Neal stated, "I don't, frankly. I've lived a nice long life."

But he does have a plan, adding, "Starting on May 10th I'm going to freeze my prostate."

And O'Neal revealed that his cancer woes aren't solely linked to his prostate.

Wearing a bandage on his nose, he explained, "I'm not done and I'm not that beaten down but... I have three cancers at the moment - on my face, in my prostate and I have chronic leukaemia, so I'm not so sure if I should get subscriptions to magazines for more than a year at a time." »

Ryan O'Neal: 'I Wasn't Trained For Fatherhood'

1 May 2012 2:56 PM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Veteran actor Ryan O'Neal considers himself a failure as a parent - because three of his four children have struggled with drug and legal issues for years.

The Love Story star is father to son Griffin and daughter Tatum from his first marriage to the late Joanna Cook Moore, while he is also dad to Patrick, with second wife Leigh Taylor-Young, and his youngest child Redmond, from his relationship with Farrah Fawcett.

Griffin, who was born in 1964, is currently serving a 16-month jail sentence for a charge of driving under the influence of drugs, while Redmond is battling substance abuse issues in court-ordered rehab, and Paper Moon actress Tatum, who has long struggled with drug addiction, sought professional help for the use of painkillers following surgery earlier this year.

O'Neal has endured a strained relationship with each of his kids over the years, and only reunited with Tatum in 2011 following years of estrangement.

The 71 year old, who has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, accepts that he could have done better as a dad - but he insists his kids can no longer blame him for their struggles as they are all grown-ups.

When asked whether he considers himself a bad father during an interview on U.S. breakfast show Today on Tuesday, he replied, "Looks like it, doesn't it? Sure looks like it. I suppose I was. I wasn't trained.

"(But) these are not children, anymore. Griffin is 45 (sic), Tatum is 49. Who's the other one? Oh yeah. Redmond is 27. At some point they have to take hold of their own existences." »

Ryan O'Neal Holding Off Cancer Treatment Until After Book Tour

1 May 2012 12:06 PM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Embattled actor Ryan O'Neal has postponed plans to undergo cancer treatment until after he has completed a promotional tour for his new memoir.

The Love Story star revealed he had been diagnosed with stage two prostate cancer last month, but assured fans he would bounce back from the health crisis as the disease had been "detected early" and the prognosis was "positive for a full recovery".

He was due to appear on U.S. breakfast show Today on Monday to advertise his new tell-all tome about his longtime love affair with Farrah Fawcett, Both Of Us: My Life With Farrah, but O'Neal had to pull out at the last minute after falling ill.

He returned to the New York-based programme on Tuesday and explained that he had suffered a panic attack moments before going on air on Monday - although he's unsure why.

He said, "I don't know what was wrong. Terror, perhaps? I just broke out into a terrible sweat, you wouldn't have wanted me! So I went home and went to bed, and I feel better now. They (doctors) said that's what it was (a panic attack), but I had never had one before... I'm Ok now."

The 71 year old, who previously battled leukaemia, went on to confess he's yet to begin the exhaustive process to treat the cancer and try to put a stop to the spread of the disease.

When asked how he was feeling, he told host Matt Lauer, "Inundated with the disease, actually. I'm working to cure it... I've chose (sic) to go to you first, and then I'll do something about it when I go back to California." »

Ryan O'Neal Doesn't Know Where Son Griffin Is Imprisoned

1 May 2012 12:06 PM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Cancer-stricken Ryan O'Neal has lost contact with his troubled son Griffin because the actor has no idea where he has been imprisoned.

The Love Story star's eldest son was sentenced to 16 months behind bars in February following a car crash last August, when he was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs.

But O'Neal, who last month announced he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer, reveals he's still yet to visit Griffin, 47 - the actor's son with late actress Joanna Moore.

During an appearance on U.S. talk show The View on Tuesday, he confessed, "I don't even know what prison he's in. They don't tell me."

He did not elaborate on who was banning him from finding out where his son is being held.

But O'Neal admits he has patched up his differences with his daughter Tatum - Griffin's older sister - and she has been taking care of her sick father after overcoming her own issues at a drug rehabilitation centre earlier this year.

He added, "Tatum is out and about and doing much better, looks wonderful and is happy. She's always happiest when I'm ill because she can mother me and fawn over me and take care of me."

O'Neal has another son, Redmond, with the late Farrah Fawcett. He is also tackling substance abuse issues in a court-ordered drug treatment programme. »
