‘Mighty Ducks’ TV Series in the Works, Should Bring Back the Triple-Deke

1992. Simpler times. In those days, you could be a super successful lawyer (How successful? How's winning 30 straight cases sound, champ?), then get busted for drunk driving, and be sentenced to community service coaching the local pee-wee hockey team. Yeah that was the actual premise for the surprising pop culture hit, The Mighty Ducks. The original film, which featured Emilio Estevez as the lawyer/coach-whose-heart-grew-two-sizes Gordon Bombay, was but the first of what would become a trilogy with D2: The Mighty Ducks and D3: The Mighty Ducks following in 1994 and 1996. It looks like Disney's The Mighty Ducks film franchise is being adapted into a TV series! According to THRABC Signature Studios is in early development on a series based on the classic 1990s  films that center around a youth hockey team.

I loved those movies when I was growing up and if this series can capture the magic of those original films, then this might be something worth checking out. They might actually be able to pull that off because a couple key members of the original filmmaking team are developing the show!

According to sources, ABC Signature head Tracy Underwood "put Mighty Ducks in development after being approached by original trilogy screenwriter Steven Brill and original producer Jordan Kerner." So, Brill is on board to write the script for the series, which is great! If anyone can capture the magic of the original films, he would be the guy to do it.

Santa Barbara Film Festival to Open as Planned in Wake of Montecito Mudslides

The Santa Barbara Film Festival is moving ahead as planned with its 33rd edition, opening on Jan. 31, in the wake of the fires and flooding that recently devastated the city, leaving 20 victims dead in the Montecito area.

Roger Durling, executive director of the festival, addressed the issue Wednesday in a letter that said, “Many people have been asking me if the Santa Barbara International Film Festival will take place. My answer is an emphatic ‘Yes.'”

He continued, “How do you do a film festival following the immense tragedy unfolding in Montecito and Southern California? Well — the honest answer is that it is needed now more than ever. Movies have always provided a sense of community. It is an opportunity for people to gather, reflect, experience, feel, and process.”

Durling noted that during the Great Depression, Americans flocked to theaters. “They did not do this because movies can be easily categorized as a distraction,” he said. “Yes

Santa Barbara Film Festival Announces 2018 Slate, Will Open with Emilio Estevez’s ‘the public’

Despite the devastating mudslides that overwhelmed the Santa Barbara, California community of Montecito last week — resulting in at least 20 deaths and the destruction of 100-plus homes — the Santa Barbara International Film Festival (Sbiff) will go on as usual. A reason to celebrate is “needed now more than ever,” wrote Sbiff director Roger Durling in a letter soon to be shared with festival-goers. He continued, “It is an opportunity for people to gather – reflect – experience – feel – and process,” noting that cinema attendance was strong during the Great Depression.

Launched in 1986, this year’s Sbiff will include films from 58 countries. Numbered among its 45 world premieres is opening night film “the public,” the first feature written and directed by Emilio Estevez since 2010’s “The Way.” Set at a Cincinnati public library, the film follows its homeless and marginalized patrons during a dangerous cold spell. The cast includes Alec Baldwin, Jena Malone (“Neon Demon

The Goldfinch Movie Gets Jeffrey Wright as Hobie

Warner Bros. and Amazon Studios have added another key member to the cast of The Goldfinch adaptation, with Jeffrey Wright coming aboard to portray Hobie. The Oscar-nominated actor joins a growing cast that includes Ansel Elgort as Theo, Willa Fitzgerald as Kitsey Barbour and Aneurin Barnard as Boris. The adaptation is expected to go into production shortly, so there may be several more casting announcements coming in the near future.

The original novel by Donna Tartt, which won the Pulitzer Prize for literature in 2014, centers on Theo Decker, who, at the age of 13, miraculously survives a terrorist that kills his mother. This leads to Theo being taken in by the family of a wealthy friend, after being abandoned by his father. Theo still clings to the one thing that reminds him of his mother, a small painting entitled The Goldfinch, that entices him into the underworld of the art scene.

First Trailer for Public Library Drama 'The Public' with Emilio Estevez

"We're a public library, we're not a shelter for the homeless." The first trailer has debuted for the latest film written & directed by Emilio Estevez (where has he been all this time?) titled The Public, which is a reference to a public library in Cincinnati. On top of writing & directing, Estevez also stars as one of the managers of the library. When an Arctic cold comes into the city, a group of homeless people decide to hold an "occupy" movement and camp out in the library. The full cast features Jena Malone, Christian Slater, Alec Baldwin, Taylor Schilling, Gabrielle Union, Michael Kenneth Williams, Jeffrey Wright, Ki Hong Lee, Richard T. Jones, and Jacob Vargas. This actually seems like a fascinating take on this kind of story. Pretty much every public library in every city has to deal with homeless people, and yet this seems to show how important this place

Press Notes: John Hughes’ The Breakfast Club

Back in June of 2016, a John Hughes phantom page appeared on Criterion’s Web site, which led to many speculating as to what it might mean as far as films entering the Collection. Many thought that a box set would be inevitable, and for a time it seemed like 16 Candles might be the first to get a spine number. Then, in June of 2017, we had our first real tease as to what might be coming: A breakfast club.

Today, the Criterion Collection has released a new definitive edition of the 80s classic, and it features a number of improvements over the previous home video edition, most notably the deleted scenes.

Here are some reviews and links from around the web:

What happens when five strangers end up together in Saturday detention? Badass posturing, gleeful misbehavior, and a potent dose of angst. With this exuberant, disarmingly candid film, writer-director John

A Deleted Scene From The Breakfast Club Surfaces After 30 Years

I'm a huge fan of The Breakfast Club. I love that movie and I was surprised to see a never-before-seen deleted scene from the film surface online after 30 years. The scene features a little moment between Molly Ringwald’s Claire and Ally Sheedy’s Allison.

On January 2nd, Criterion Collection is a new edition of the film which will contain 50 minutes of material that has never been released. That material will offer lots of cool insights into the film and I'm definitely looking forward to it!

The deleted scene was shared by Vulture, and in it, Claire makes an attempt to do a little bonding with Allison. It's a pretty awkward exchange as Allison's cringe-worthy eating habits are discussed. It eventually leads to Allison picking up a chip out of the bathroom sink and shoving it in her mouth.

I'll tell you what, had this scene stayed in the movie,

Long Lost Breakfast Club Deleted Scene Has Been Unearthed

Long Lost Breakfast Club Deleted Scene Has Been Unearthed
A new scene from The Breakfast Club has surfaced online, featuring Molly Ringwald and Ally Sheedy. The never-before-seen clip has surfaced online to promote the upcoming 4K Criterion Collection version of the movie that contains nearly an hour of deleted scenes that have never been released anywhere before. The 4K restoration of the 1980s classic is more than enough to get fans on board, but seeing deleted scenes from such a beloved movie is a real treat, especially over 50-minutes worth of footage from the John Hughes movie.

In the new clip from The Breakfast Club, Molly Ringwald and Ally Sheedy are together in the Girls' restroom and Ringwald is trying to become friends with Sheedy, despite her very bizarre tendencies. "So sad. You're washing your hands, but you'll eat food inches away from a toilet," Ringwald, who plays Claire, says. Sheedy, who plays the character Allison, proceeds to
