'Mad Men' star Vincent Kartheiser will play Mr. Darcy in 'Pride and Prejudice' play

20 hours ago | Pop2it | See recent Pop2it news »

Is it possible to go from the loathsome Pete Campbell to the romantic Mr. Darcy? A theater in Minnesota must hope so since it has cast "Mad Men" actor Vincent Kartheiser in the male lead role of its theatrical adaptation of Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice."

The Guthrie Theater of Minneapolis will run the play this summer, with previews beginning on July 6. The show's official run will be from July 12 through August 31 and will help celebrate the organization's 50th anniversary.

Adapted for the stage by playwright Simon Reade and directed by Joe Dowling, "Pride and Prejudice" is one of the most famous works of classical fiction. It tells the story of Elizabeth Bennet and her love-hate-love relationship with the wealthy but aloof Mr. Darcy. Even those who have not read the early 19th-century novel are likely to know the story from one of its many filmed adaptations. A much-beloved »

See “Robocop” Ride A Bike

It’s thrilling. Okay so no it isn’t, but people eat this Robocop stuff up, so take a look at the new Alex Murphy riding a bike through the city.

The film has a great cast that includes Joel Kinnaman, Abbie Cornish, Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Samuel L. Jackson, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael K. Williams, Jay Baruchel, Jennifer Ehle, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste, and is directed by Jose Padilha. After a bunch of negative fanfare, the film has been pretty quiet for awhile now. It’s heading for a February 7th, 2014 release. »

Jonathan Demme's 'Old Fires' With Bryan Cranston, Jason Segel & Jennifer Ehle Put On Hold

13 May 2013 12:20 PM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

It just doesn’t seem to be going right for Jonathan Demme recently. He had been working on an adaptation of Stephen King’s “11/22/63” alongside the author, but that fell apart last December with King and Demme unable to agree on the correct direction for the film to take (it's now being developed for TV). Now another one of Demme’s projects seems to have fallen by the wayside, and that’s the Heather McGowan (“Tadpole”) scripted “Old Fires.” When we caught up with Demme last December he was talking very passionately about the project and was hoping to get it in front of cameras at some point this year. Thanks to Jennifer Ehle we now know that’s not happening, with the actress sending out the following tweet last week: “So Old Fires’s definitely postponed. If Demme can’t get $ for truly great script w/Brian Cranston & Jason Segal… »

DVD Review: Kathryn Bigelow’s Incredible ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ Deserves More

30 March 2013 5:41 PM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – At one point in awards season, right after it won five Chicago Film Critics Association Awards, including Best Picture, Actress, Screenplay, and Director, it really looked like Kathryn Bigelow’s “Zero Dark Thirty” was going to be the most award-winning film of 2012. When all was said and done, it only won a single Oscar for Sound Editing and Bigelow wasn’t even nominated. Was it due to the torture controversy? Perceived similarities to the recent winner “The Hurt Locker”? We’ll never know. But I know two things. 1.) “Zero Dark Thirty” is a fantastic film and history will recognize it as such. 2.) The DVD release is nearly horrendous.

Rating: 4.0/5.0

The transfer is mediocre (I can’t speak to the HD quality on the Blu-ray since Sony would only send the standard) and unfitting of a film this technically accomplished. Even worse, the special features are ridiculously slight. There are »

Abbie Cornish Says Robocop Reboot is "Massively Kick-Ass"

9 March 2013 11:00 AM, PST | GeekTyrant | See recent GeekTyrant news »

I might be one of the few people left who is excited for director Jose Padilha's reboot of RoboCop. I love everything I've seen from the set photos in regards to the suit, and I like the direction that they plan on taking the film. I think it's going to be one of those movies that turns out a lot better than what people are expecting. One of the film's stars, Abbie Cornish, recently did an interview with VH1 and praised the film saying...

It's gonna be a massively kick-ass film. I actually have a voicemail message from Jose Padilha, the director. He says in the message, 'I don't think we've got a great movie. I think we've got a classic.'

I hope she's right, because that would be awesome. The movie comes out on February 7th, 2014, and stars Joel KinnamanGary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Samuel L. Jackson, »

This Was Supposed To Be Daenerys

7 March 2013 11:55 AM, PST | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

It's hard to imagine anyone else playing Daenerys on "Game of Thrones" besides Emilia Clarke, but the 25-year-old British actress almost missed out on the role of a lifetime.

In HBO's “Game of Thrones” pilot, Daenerys Targaryen was played by Tamzin Merchant, who'd appeared as Henry VIII's fifth wife Catherine Howard on Showtime's "The Tudors." But after the pilot filmed in late 2009, "Game of Thrones" went in a different direction.

And that's when Clarke got a life-changing call "out of the blue," according to a New York Times profile on the actress.

“I had never heard of the books," Clarke admitted to The Times of George R. R. Martin's series. "And so I spent 48 frantic hours Wikipedia-ing ... This is going to sound odd or bizarre. But just from those few lines I felt I understood the character. She’s a young girl trying to do good and to realize her own capabilities. »

2013 Oscar Prediction: Best Supporting Actress

18 February 2013 7:00 AM, PST | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

When it comes to acting categories, especially supporting, predicting who’s going to come away with the Academy Award is always a much easier bet than, say, Best Picture or Director. Looking over the past few years, there haven’t been many upsets when it comes to supporting categories. Based on this year’s list of nominees, expect the same results. All the critically lauded films are represented here. So, before we get into the breakdown of the nominees, here is a shout out to a few actresses who were overlooked during this awards season: Emily Blunt (Looper), Jennifer Ehle (Zero Dark Thirty), Ann Dowd (Compliance), and Lauren Ambrose (Sleepwalk with Me). Whether it’s because they’re in sci-fi film or a little seen indie, none of them received the recognition they deserved. But these actresses did. Here are the nominees for Best Supporting Actress with my predicted winner in red… Amy Adams »

Zero Dark Thirty Review

Film: "Zero Dark Thirty"; Actors: Jessica Chastain, Jason Clarke, Jennifer Ehle, James Gandolfini, Mark Strong, Kyle Chandler and Reda Kateb; Director: Kathryn Bigelow; Rating: *1/2 - an attempt at self-aggrandisement.

"Zero Dark Thirty" seems to be an American propaganda film as it does not shed much light on the truth that shrouds the death of Osama bin Laden, the man America was chasing since Sep 11, 2001. The film, in a nutshell, is motivational and applauds the CIA's attempt of a job that America believes, was brilliantly done after a decade of perseverance.

The film begins like an amateur's attempt at filmmaking. The white. »

Pride and Prejudice at 200: the best Jane Austen small-screen adaptations

28 January 2013 6:07 AM, PST | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

Forget Oscar-tipped films and lush BBC dramatisations – the Lizzie Bennet Diaries is an addictive bi-weekly retelling of Pride and Prejudice for the web generation

Jane Austen has been providing us with Sunday-evening viewing fodder ever since someone had the ratings-winning idea of putting gowns and tight breeches on primetime TV. But as Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy celebrate their 200th anniversary of appearing in print, the best Austen adaptation around at the moment isn't an Oscar-tipped film or a lush BBC dramatisation – it's a series of 10-minute YouTube videos, with accompanying in-character tweets. And it's modern-day. And American.

The Lizzie Bennet Diaries calls itself an "innovative, original episodic video and social media series produced for the web". Actually, it's an addictive bi-weekly retelling of Pride and Prejudice, in which Darcy is a hipster, Lizzie is a beleaguered grad student and her mother is just as desperate to get her married off as in the original. »

Starring Jessica Chastain, Jason Clarke, Joel Edgerton, Mark Strong, Chris Pratt, Kyle Chandler, Taylor Kinney, Mark Duplass, Frank Grillo, Stephen Dillane, Edgar Ramirez, Harold Perrineau, Jennifer Ehle, James Gandolfini, Scott Adkins and John Barrowman.

Synopsis:

The hunt for Osama Bin Laden in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks is recounted from first hand accounts.

Zero Dark Thirty was the mission code name for the operation to kill Osama Bin Laden on May 2nd 2011, and whilst the details of the operation itself are known to us already the near-decade long search for the man behind the worst terrorist attack in history is not. Zero Dark Thirty is primarily about these events.

Kathryn Bigelow employs a cunning tactic at the start of the film, she evokes from us the painful memories of that fateful day back in 2001. We have all seen the images from that »
