As preparation for acting the role in the movie of the same name, he played the lead in the stage version of Whose Life is it Anyway at the Williamstown Theatre Festival (Williamstown, MA) in the summer, 1981. John Badham directed both the summer stock stage version and the Hollywood movie. Blythe Danner played the female lead in the stage version, and was replaced by Christine Lahti in the film.
