The Ravagers invaded Comic-Con this past weekend as part of Marvel Studios’ big Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 panel, and now James Gunn has taken to Instagram to give us a look at Yondu’s motley crew, who are set to play a big part in next year’s cosmic superhero sequel…

Manuel here with what is arguably the most actressy news coming out of Sdcc. The reigning Best Actress champ, one Ms Brie Larson will be joining the so-called McU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) as Captain (née Ms) Marvel.
Brie was brought out during Marvel's panel at Comic Con where she got to join the casts of Dr. Strange (which boasts Oscar winner Tilda Swintin and nominees Benedict Cumberbatch and Chiwetel Ejiofor), Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 (which features Oscar nominees Bradley Cooper, Sylvester Stallone, and Glenn Close), and Black Panther (with Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o). That's all a long way of saying that the McU is already stacked with Oscary talents. It's nothing new: after all, Iron Man starred 3 Oscar nominees and one winner back in 2008.

Yesterday during the Marvel Studios panel at Comic-Con, the big Guardians of the Galaxy mystery about Star-Lord’s father was answered, with Marvel revealing that Ego, the Living Planet – played by Kurt Russell – is Peter Quill’s dad. Yesterday director James Gunn and the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 took to the stage in Hall H of the San Diego Comic-Con to showcase some footage from next year’s Marvel sequel [read a description here], as well as revealing some pretty major details about the film – not least the identity of Star-Lord’s father as Ego, the Living Planet, played by Kurt Russell. Following the panel, Gunn took to Facebook to share his thoughts in a rather lengthy post:
Whoa! So we just got off stage at the San Diego Comicon showing not one, but Three Guardians clips: 1) A piece from the film featuring Yondu, Rocket, baby Groot, and the Ravagers, 2) A behind-the-scenes featurette of me and the cast working on the forthcoming Guardians attraction at Disneyland, and 3) A special glimpse at a montage of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Marvel has certainly put a packed panel together for Comic-Con, with Black Panther, Thor: Ragnarok, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man: Homecoming and now Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. First up, as with the rest of the slate, the film has an updated logo…
During the panel, it was revealed that Elizabeth Debicki is portraying Ayesha, confirming a rumour from back in June, and that Ayesha will enlist the help of the Guardians, only for it “to turn quite sour”. Meanwhile, confirming another rumour, Kurt Russel is playing Ego, The Living Planet – and he’s also Peter Quill’s father!
Some footage was also shown, and Coming Soon have the description:
We see Rocket and Yondu being thrown in a cell by the Ravagers. They’re to be handed over to the Kree. “You won’t live long after that,” one taunts. Another has little groot in a birdcage. He wants to »

We're about one month away from the announcement of this year's Honorary Oscar recipients. They're usuallly announced at the end of August for a November Governor's Awards ceremony. This year's ceremony will be on November 12th. Last year rumors circled that it was Doris Day's turn but that didn't turn out to be accurate. For the past two years, The Film Experience has tried to make up for the dearth of movie site reporting about the Oscar Honorary careers (beyond the sharing of press releases / YouTube videos of their speeches) with mini-retrospectives so we're always hoping they'll choose well to give us wonderful careers to discuss right here.
Let's reprint a list of worthies we shared a year or so ago, with a few adjustments, in case any of the elites in the Academy are undecided about who to put forth or get behind for these coveted honors.

Madrid — Showcasing the latest in TV technology, Brazil’s Globo, Latin America’s biggest network, will from Monday offer its flagship production “Dangerous Liaisons” in 4K High Dynamic Range to users of its Globo Play VOD service.
Netflix (“Marco Polo”), Amazon (“Mozart in the Jungle”) and Vudu already offer content in 4K Hdr, a standard backed by Hollywood studios and YouTube. But Globo is the first of any mainstream broadcaster, and the first non-u.S. company known to several analysts consulted by Variety, to offer content in the format.
The move reflects a trend on display at January’s Consumer Electronics Show: that 4K Hdr is becoming a new broadcast standard.
Conventional broadcasters were not expected to make the jump into Hdr until 2017. Globo’s early foray with “Dangerous Liaisons” raises the question whether 4K Hdr production and distribution by other free-to-air broadcasters could come online faster than anticipated.

Winona Ryder is making her Netflix series debut with the new series Stranger Things, out Friday, July 15, but she's no stranger to binging TV shows. "I tend to binge watch shows that were on a long time ago, but I don't know that, so I start telling everybody," Ryder told E! News' Will Marfuggi at the Stranger Things premiere. "Like I love Damages and I thought it was still on…and I was like, 'There's this great show, Damages,' but it was over a long time ago." We feel you, Winona. Damages, which starred Glenn Close and Rose Byrne, is engrossing TV and well worth a watch. Another show on the Oscar nominee's list? Netflix's The Fall. Ryder praised Gillian »
Entertainment Weekly has debuted some official concept art from next year’s Marvel sequel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 which features the expanded team of Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Drax (Dave Bautista), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), Groot (Vin Diesel), Yondu (Michael Rooker) and Nebula (Karen Gillan), along with our first look at the newly-introduced character of Mantis, played by Pom Klementieff (Oldboy).
“She has never really experienced social interaction,” says executive producer Jonathan Schwartz with regards to Mantis. “Everything she learns about dealing with people, she learns from the Guardians of the Galaxy, which is a very weird group to learn your social intricacies from.”
Schwartz also spoke about Baby Groot, stating that: “He doesn’t have the wisdom and experience of [the original] Groot. He’s a younger Groot and a more rambunctious Groot. The question is, is he the same Groot, just smaller? Or is he a »

The Kennedy family is taking Donald Trump bashing to a whole new level. A piñata of the presumptive Gop nominee was among the decorations at the Kennedys' annual 4th of July party at the family compound in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts, over the holiday weekend, the Daily Mail reports. Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s daughter Kathleen "Kick" Kennedy posted a photo of the blue-suited, golden-haired piñata, captioning it, "It's yuge party!" She later deleted the post on Monday morning - but not before it garnered "likes" from famous friends including actress Glenn Close, Hardball host Chris Matthews' son Thomas, E! »

The near future; humanity has been all but destroyed by a mutated fungal disease that eradicates free will and turns its victims into flesh-eating “hungries”. Only a small group of children seem immune to its effects.
At an army base in rural England, this group of unique children are being studied, subjected to cruel experiments by biologist Dr. Caldwell. Despite having been infected with the zombie pathogen that has decimated the world, these children retain normal thoughts and emotions. And while still being subject to the craving for human flesh that marks the disease these second-generation “hungries” are able to think and feel making them a vital resource in the search for a cure. »

In a summer stuffed with blockbusters aimed at young audience, arthouse films appeal to an older demographic because the stars reflect the audiences
Halfway into Warcraft: the Beginning, the video game adapted by Duncan Jones into a wannabe sci-fi franchise, Glenn Close appears as some kind of oracle. Swathed in a black cloak and with CGI-enhanced black orbs for eyes, she spouts some foreboding nonsense and then she’s off.

Director Liz Garbus is known for her Oscar-nominated documentaries “The Farm: Angola, USA” and “What Happened, Miss Simone?” But when Glenn Close asked her to direct a teen music video with an important issue — teen depression — she agreed. The song the video is based on, “Ghost Story,” was written by 15-year-old Whitney Woerz. The singer/songwriter wrote it to help a friend battling depression and suicidal thoughts. “Being 15 now, I realize how important it is to just talk about feelings, depression and anxiety,” Woerz told Billboard. “My friends and I face new challenges and pressures but we need to »

Hunkered down in Birmingham with little hope of survival, McCarthy’s apocalyptic horror flick is the big-screen adaptation of M.R. Carey’s eponymous novel, telling the harrowing tale of Nanua’s Melanie who fast becomes one of the few remaining rays of hope amid the barren wasteland.
Forming a special bond with Gemma Arterton’s kick-ass teacher Miss Justineau, The Girl With All the Gifts kicks into gear when our unassuming protagonist becomes an instrumental part of the military’s survival plan and though it habrors many of the elements associated with the Ya genre – a young Messiah figure destined for greatness, for instance – McCarthy’s thriller is much more in line with other British horror pieces such as 28 Days Later. "She saved me, and you're still afraid of her?" Whoa! Where did this come from? Warner Bros in the UK has debuted a trailer for an adaptation of a book called The Girl With All The Gifts. The best way to describe this would be to call it a post-apocalyptic zombie movie meets the X-Men, with a young girl who has a special ability. She seems to be the best hope for the human race in a world overrun by the living dead. The movie stars Sennia Nanua, Gemma Arterton, Glenn Close and Paddy Considine. There are some fantastic shots in this trailer, and it sets up the story in a very thrilling way that makes me intrigued to find out more. I'd never heard of this before seeing the trailer, and now I'm more than interested. See below. Here's the first UK trailer for Colm McCarthy's The Girl With All The Gifts, »

Zombie and general apocalypse fatigue is a very real thing being experienced by fans these days. Zombie stories have always been popular but, thanks to the runaway success that was AMC's The Walking Dead, it seems like we keep getting the same type of story told over and over. The Girl with All the Gifts is a zombie film but it looks like nothing else out there. Colm McCarthy has directed this adaptation of the 2014 novel of the same name from comic book writer Mike Carey (Lucifer, The Unwritten), who also wrote the screenplay. It stars Glenn Close, Gemma Arterton, and Paddy Considine and is the feature debut of young actor Sennia Nanua. /Film wrote: "There have been fresher approaches to zombies with films such as Zombieland, Warm Bodies, Life After Beth, Maggie, and Pride & Prejudice & Zombies, but 28 Days Later was probably the last great zombie movie."
