Made her Broadway debut on Nov. 11, 1974 in the Phoenix Theater production of William Congreves's "Love for Love." Close began as understudy for star Mary Ure, but during previews director Harold Prince dismissed Ure for reasons that are unclear and promoted Close just a day before opening night.
