Top 10 Movies Filmed in Thailand

23 May 2017 10:10 PM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Over the years there have been a great number of movies that have been filmed in Thailand, some of those films were supposed to be filmed there whilst others were filmed there as a stand in for places such as Cambodia and Vietnam.

One of the main benefits of using Thailand is that the production costs can be kept very low if the movie requires things such as glorious beaches, jungles or even elephants! Plus, with an army of experienced film crew members residing in Thailand production staffing costs can also be kept low too by hiring local yet skilled personnel.

There are of course plenty of benefits for Thailand as a whole when any major films are filmed there, as it helps the tourist industry no end, with many people wishing to visit many of the places a film was filmed at.

Tom Jolliffe revisits John Woo’s action masterpiece Hard Boiled

John Woo had already made quite a name for himself in China, thanks to hit action classics such as A Better Tomorrow and The Killer. In 1992 he released the film which would see him transition from Hong Kong director, to Hollywood. The film was Hard Boiled a tale of two cops (one deep undercover within a criminal organisation) who come together explosively and join forces to take down a deranged crime lord who has monopolised the criminal underworld.

At this point the action genre was at its pinnacle for pure spectacle. We’d had the 80’s, full of classics such as Die Hard, the Indiana Jones franchise, and then came Terminator 2: Judgement Day (and the aforementioned Woo films). Jackie Chan too was rising to prominence in Hong Kong, known for the intricacy of his ground breaking fight sequences (and »

Brett Ratner in Cannes: 'Television is obviously the future'

19 May 2017 2:37 PM, PDT | ScreenDaily | See recent ScreenDaily news »

Us producer and director delivered a keynote at the festival today.

In his keynote address at the Winston Baker Film Financing Forum today (May 19), an ebullient Brett Ratner revealed just how he rescued Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Oscar winner The Revenant when it went over budget; why he will soon be returning to directing; his plans to enter the TV business in a major way; and why he thinks Vr is ideal for porn.

Ratner isn’t just a filmmaker whose own movies have grossed over $2bn. He’s also a prolific producer and film financier - and a co-founder of RatPac Entertainment together with Australian businessman James Packer.

“Nobody really in Hollywood can figure out how I did this. They don’t understand,” Rattner said of his unlikely metamorphosis from director into “mogul” (a description he hates). His friend and Rush Hour star Jackie Chan calls him “the luckiest motherfucker in the world”.

Chan! Stallone! Ex-baghdad!

12 May 2017 9:35 AM, PDT | Screen Anarchy | See recent Screen Anarchy news »

Jackie Chan has been teaming up with Hollywood stars, on and off, for about 30 years, which is kind of funny because in his classic run of Hong Kong action pictures, he embodied the 'solo action hero' / 'one against many' stereotype. Sylvester Stallone wrote his own ticket to stardom in Rocky more than 40 years ago and then became a mega-star in the 1980s because he too made movies in which he emboded the 'solo action hero' / 'one against many' stereotype. In recent years, both stars have faded to a degree. They have teamed with personalities more and more. So perhaps it was inevitable that they would, eventually, star together. Chan and Stallone will star in action thriller Ex-Baghdad, according to Deadline. Scott...
