Dwayne Johnson producing and starring in a remake of Big Trouble in Little China

6 hours ago | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Following the box office success of his latest disaster movie San Andreas, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is reportedly set to produce and star in a remake of 80s cult favourite Big Trouble in Little China.

The Wrap are reporting that Big Trouble in Little China is one of Johnson’s favourite movies and he will play the role of Jack Burton, made famous by Kurt Russell back in 1986. The film follows Jack, an all-American trucker, who gets caught in a supernatural showdown with the forces of evil while visiting a friend in San Fransico. The film was directed by John Carpenter and also featured Kim Cattrall, Dennis Dun and James Hong. The film also rules.

The Big Trouble in Little China remake will be written by Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz (X-Men: First Class) and will be produced by Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia and Johnson himself.

Dwayne Johnson to Star in Big Trouble in Little China Remake

6 hours ago | | See recent Worst Previews news »

"San Andreas" just hit theaters and became a massive hit, and now comes word that Dwayne Johnson has already picked his next project, which will be a remake of John Carpenter's cult classic "Big Trouble in Little China." Johnson is in talks to play Jack Burton, an all-American trucker who gets dragged into a centuries-old mystical battle in San Francisco's Chinatown. The script will be written by "X-Men: First Class" writers Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz. The original 1986 film starred Kurt Russell and Kim Cattrall, and only grossed $11 million at the domestic box office. But the film is considered a classic. »

The Rock & a hard place: Dwayne Johnson makes ‘Big Trouble In Little China’

11 hours ago | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

He’s been busy rescuing San Andreas from a rubble-strewn fate, but Dwayne Johnson‘s next possible tough guy role may see him facing unearthly terrors in more mystical territory.

1986’s Big Trouble In Little China is reportedly one of the former wrestler’s favourite films, and he’s keen to remake it with himself in the lead as affable trucker Jack Burton. Burton was played by Kurt Russell in John Carpenter‘s original effort and Kim Cattrall co-starred.

The source material is best-described as uncategorizable, following the workaday hero with a mouth as big as his fists as he got caught up in the underworld of San Francisco’s Chinatown, encountering many fantastical sights and battling an ancient sorceror and his elemental henchmen. It’s also one of those movies that underperformed before attaining cult status on video, so a risky venture for a big budget reboot.

The Rock To Lead "Little China" Remake

22 hours ago | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson is in negotiations to both star in and produce a remake of John Carpenter's 1986 cult classic "Big Trouble in Little China" at 20th Century Fox.

Johnson would play Jack Burton, an all-American trucker who gets dragged into a centuries-old mystical battle in San Francisco's Chinatown.

"X-Men: First Class" scribes Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz will pen the project while Johnson and producing partners Dany and Hiram Garcia will produce. The trio pitched the remake to Fox as the original is one of Johnson's all time favorite films.

Kurt Russell and Kim Cattrall starred in the original which, though a box-office failure, quickly became a cult classic and is often considered one of the most iconic of 1980s movies.

Sarah Jessica Parker has hinted that a third ‘Sex and the City’ movie is in the pipeline.

The 50-year-old actress fuelled rumours that yet another spin-off film from the original HBO series is set to be made after posting a cryptic message on her Instagram account.

She wrote alongside an image of herself carrying a paper bag from department store Bloomingdales – which is known for being one of her character Carrie Bradshaw’s favourite shops – as onlookers took pictures: “Well. I guess the cat’s out of the (little brown) bag. As usual, we will keep you posted on every detail as we are able. I’m under strict gag order until then. Xx, Sj”

The mysterious post follows months of speculation that Sarah and her co-stars Kristin Davis, 50, Kim Cattrall, 58, and Cynthia Nixon, 49, were set to return for a third instalment.

Gracepoint; Sensitive Skin review – some remakes translate better than others

Kim Cattrall is fantastic in the Canadian remake of the 10-year-old Hugo Blick dramedy, whereas David Tennant struggles to reprise Di Hardy for Us telly

You don’t come across big international remakes of UK dramas so often that you’d expect two of them to turn up on the same night – never mind a scheduling clash. Yet here we are at 10pm: Gracepoint, the American overhaul of Broadchurch, up against a revisiting of Sensitive Skin, the acclaimed Hugo Blick dramedy starring Joanna Lumley, which first aired 10 years ago.

In its Canadian remake (Sky Arts), it is Kim Cattrall who plays Davina, a successful fiftysomething with a long marriage, grownup son, vintage Jag and fear of losing her youth. Cattrall, in her first major TV role since Sex and the City, is not exactly a revelation – her portrayal of Samantha always exceeded the limits of the show’s scripts – but »

Happy 50th, Sarah Jessica Parker! What's her most underrated role?

25 March 2015 9:02 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Sarah Jessica Parker, the Emmy-winning actress and fashion maven, is 50 today. If you watched Carrie Bradshaw strut her way through her late '30s on HBO's "Sex and the City" and deal with the pangs of married life in the two subsequent feature releases, Sjp's 50th birthday feels like kind of a big deal. In your best Kim Cattrall voice, you coo, "I'll drink to that!" To celebrate, let's pick Sjp's most underrated role. My pick is below.                   "L.A. Story." 1991. Not nearly as watched anymore as it should be. Sjp's character SanDeE is one-of-a-kind, a loopy wannabe model whose space cadet antics are at once frustrating and lovable. The explanation for the curious spelling of her name is priceless, and Steve Martin (naturally) responds quizzically.  What's your favorite Sjp role?  »

Jamie Dornan: Christian Grey is a 'Sick Psychopath Bastard'

Jamie Dornan isn't shy about not exactly liking his on-screen persona in the record-breaking Fifty Shades of Grey.

In a new interview with The Guardian, the 32-year-old Irish actor looks back on the characters he's played -- specifically Paul Spector, the psychopathic murderer in the BBC2 series The Fall, and of course, Christian Grey -- and admits it "worries" him.

"I consider myself quite light-hearted, pretty easy-going, and I keep playing sick psychopath bastards!" he says. "It kinda worries me sometimes how comfortable I am in that zone."

Kim Cattrall Slams Fifty Shades Of Grey, Says Jamie Dornan Doesn't Look Like A Real Man

11 March 2015 7:03 PM, PDT | | See recent Cinema Blend news »

The film adaptation of Fifty Shades Of Grey has inspired its fair share of loud detractors. Some thought it was too raunchy, some didn.t think it was raunchy enough, and then there were other moviegoers who just thought that it was a tedious melodrama packed with hammy acting, and a weak plot that cynically exploited hollow sex appeal to generate hundreds of millions of dollars at the box office. As it turns out, one of the film.s harshest critics is Sex and the City actress Kim Cattrall, who has not only claimed not to not have interest in seeing the film, but has blamed that lack of interest on male lead Jamie Dornan. The actress, whose Samantha character in the aforementioned beloved television series and films was particularly well-versed in the act of love-making, recently told the Independent that director Sam Taylor-Johnson.s recent adaptation of E.L. »

Kim Cattrall Disses 'Fifty Shades' Star Jamie Dornan: 'He Doesn't Look Like a Man to Me'

There's one glaring reason Kim Cattrall has no intention of seeing the record-breaking Fifty Shades of Grey.

She doesn't find former Calvin Klein underwear model Jamie Dornan, who plays the super-hot S&M-loving billionaire Christian Grey in the film, attractive.

"Maybe it's my age, but he doesn't look like a man to me," the former Sex and the City star, 58, tells The Independent bluntly. "He looks like a young boy. I like men to look like men. I saw the preview and you know they say in three seconds you can tell if you find someone attractive or not? Well, I just thought, 'No.'"

Kim Cattrall on Fifty Shades' Jamie Dornan: "He doesn't look like a man"

Kim Cattrall has revealed that she has no intention of seeing Fifty Shades of Grey, arguing that the movie's male lead Jamie Dornan does not look enough like a man.

"He looks like a young boy. I like men to look like men. I saw the preview and you know they say in three seconds you can tell if you find someone attractive or not? Well, I just thought, 'No'."

But an actor fulfilling her red-blooded manly request is Calvary actor Gleeson.
