Director: David Hewitt.
Writers: Brooks Peck, and Craig Engler.
Cast: David Chokachi, Matthew and Yancy Butler.
SyFy’s The Rage of the Yeti comes close to being abominable if the viewer is expecting more than a tale about monsters on the loose. They can lay waste to skiers and mountain climbers traversing the Himalayas. If this film was a science fiction product, they could easily cause problems for the Rebel Forces on the planet Hoth. At least, to have a bigger budget to create some truly devastating moments and terrible looking monstrosities will be an improvement.
Instead, these creatures are hardly frightening and most of the time, they are lost in the white background while stalking their prey. No one can blame these Yetis for protecting their habitat; but when has there been a film that made a statement about who eats whom, and where humanity stands in »

Rage of the Yeti is Syfy’s newest cryptozoological feature. Starring David Chokachi, Matthew Kevin Anderson and Yancy Butler, it takes place in the arctic of Canada.
A rich guys sends a team of treasure hunters to find a codex and when they run into trouble, he sends another group in after them. Among the second group are a husband and wife rescue team, a veterinarian, and two adventurer-types with a strong bromance.
For a B-movie like this, the acting was actually pretty good. BBC Robin Hood’s Jonas Armstrong was my favorite as Bill, the husband half of the rescue team. I also appreciated the equality of the female characters. This is an example of how you can have females that are part of the ensemble, but aren’t there just to be sex symbols. They are merely part of the team.

Besides entertaining viewers with original series like Alphas, Being Human, Sanctuary and Haven, reality shows like Ghost Hunters and Faceoff, Syfy also offers a long line of shlocky, campy, genre-spanning original films. Who can forget Summer Glau in Mammoth (which got an Emmy nomination for special effects)? Famke Janssen in 100 Feet? Eric Roberts in last year’s spoof, Sharktopus. On Saturday, Syfy’s latest original film, winter monster thriller Rage of the Yeti starring Yancy Butler and David Chokachi. Syfy announced their latest original film Friday, Tasmanian Devil starring Danica McKellar (Young Justice and The Wonder Years) and Olympic speed-skater and gold medalist Apolo Ohno. Tasmanian Devil is about a pack of B.A.S.E. jumpers who seek their latest thrill at a Tasmanian national park. What they get instead is a thrill of a different sort as they’re hunted down by Tasmanian devils the size of grizzly »

This Saturday night, November 12th, marks that magical time again when Syfy dips into the Sasquatchploitation genre for a new movie. If you want to witness what it looks like when the Abominable Snowman gets pissed, then have a look at these video clips from Rage of the Yeti.
The first thing you need to understand about this Yeti flick is that the Yeti isn’t really a Yeti. It’s actually a Yeren, the film’s original title. (Yeren, that is; not It’s Actually a Yeren. But how funny would that have been?) The “Yeren” is described as a smaller breed of Bigfoot said to roam China’s remote Hubei province. The name “Yeren” translates to “Chinese Wildman”.
But who the hell in America knows what a Yeren is so Rage of the Yeti it is.

Back in 1977 a young Robert Englund co-starred in Tobe Hooper’s Eaten Alive about a backwoods maniac feeding people to a crocodile. A quarter century later, Englund will be back contending with crocodiles in Lake Placid: The Final Chapter. And a former “Angel” star will be joining him.
Just a few weeks back we reported that Lake Placid 3 star Yancy Butler had already signed on for Lake Placid 4, which was gearing up to begin shooting in Bulgaria. Entertainment Weekly’s Inside TV just broke the news that the original Freddy Krueger has signed on to star in Lake Placid: The Final Chapter, following in the footsteps of Betty White, Cloris Leachman, and Colin Ferguson, who have each portrayed members of the Bickerman family in the preceding three Lake Placid films.

That headline just about sums it up, does it not?
Robert Englund aka Freddy Krueger, star of the Nightmare On Elm Street franchise, has signed on for the final installment of the Lake Placid saga, subtitled The Final Chapter. According to Entertainment Weekly, he’ll play Jim Bickerman, a poacher who runs afoul of a giant crocodile. Elisabeth Rohm and Yancy Butler will co-star.
Englund joins a long list of acting luminaries who have portrayed various members of the Bickerman clan, from Betty White to Cloris Leachman to Colin Ferguson.
Even though those darn crocodiles have been terrorizing the citizens of the lake for years now, supposedly the Syfy 2012 release will be the final, final chapter.
EW also used the space to announce a new Syfy movie called End Of The World, starring Neil Grayston, Brad Dourif, and Greg Grunberg. According to the description:

That’s right, killer croc fans. Yancy Butler, who kicked some ass in the third installment of the “Lake Placid” series, has signed on for number four. The film, according to reports, will be directed by “Who’s Your Caddy?” mastermind Don Michael Paul. Casting is currently underway for the production, which should begin shooting in Budapest later this month. Now, at this point in the article, I’m sure you’re wondering, “Todd, why in the hell would anyone get excited about another ‘Lake Placid’ movie. In fact, aren’t you wasting valuable bandwidth covering this garbage on Beyond Hollywood?” The fact of the matter is that I have a serious soft spot for the franchise, so much so that I actually own physical copies of the films on DVD. Don’t you dare judge me. “Lake Placid 4″ will probably arrive on SyFy sometime next year. Source: Bloody-Disgusting »

Bits 'n Bloody Pieces is a quick look at stuff we might have missed, viral-related promotions or light newsy bites that are easy to digest. Got something weird, or a news nugget, to share that fits in with B'nBP? Send it on over to To Me Right Here . . Seth Green is making an appearance on Holliston . This is the sitcom currently lensing for FEARnet that stars horror directors Adam Green and Joe Lynch playing themselves (and struggling filmmakers) living in the titular Massachusetts town. As previously reported, Dee Snyder will rear his head as well. Lynch recently tweeted that he made out with Green on the set. 'Bout time they got that out of their system... . Someone asked for it, so Lake Placid 4 begins shooting in Budapest soon with Yancy Butler starring »

When I reviewed Lake Placid 3 last year, I stated that the best part of the film was Yancy Butler’s surly croc hunter. The producers must have agreed since she’s just been signed to star in Lake Placid 4 despite her character having died in the previous film.
Yes, Virginia, there will be a Lake Placid 4. Bloody Disgusting broke the news that Yancy Butler (“Witchblade”) has signed on to star in it. Hopefully, she’ll be playing the same entertaining character she did in part three. If that’s the case, they’re going to have to explain why her character is no longer dead. Different character? Twin sister? Guess we’ll have to wait until Lake Placid 4 almost certainly premieres on Syfy sometime next year.
The only other info as of now regarding this latest sequel is that it will be directed by Don Michael Paul (Half Past Dead, »

Can women over 40 be awesome action heros like all those guys over 60 still are?
Amidst Sigourney Weaver's recent disappointing statements about thinking she's too old to be playing Ripley in any further Aliens franchise movies and the awesome news that Linda Hamilton may star in a Terminator 5 film, we've got our panties all fucked up because we've been debating how much we love action heroines, and how many of them are over 40 now. We don't think that's a bad thing - in fact, we think women over 40 are awesome action heroes and we think you do too. We think you'd be out in theaters in masses to see Ripley or Sarah Connor tear shit up once again, and so would we.
In a recent interview with Moviehole, filmmaker Justin Lin discussed the new Terminator movie he's producing, and seems to want Hamilton to reprise her role as the tough-as-nails freedom-fighter/mom Sarah Connor, »

Okay, so there’s a new show on The Bio Channel called Celebrity Close Calls, which tracks celebrities who have had a brush with death. It takes a cue from their other show, Celebrity Ghost Stories (Harry Hamlin has seen ghosts!), but instead of stories of famous people being haunted, it’s stories of them getting hurt, like the time Gary Busey’s motorcycle accident messed up his brain. Weirdest of all, however, is the fact that they profile Yancy Butler (who?) we get to learn about the time Ed Begley, Jr. was attacked by an L.A. gang, which is, like, What??? Obviously, people who live their lives in the public eye are subject to more scrutiny than ordinary folk, but how did that guy — actor and passionate environmental activist — end up victim to gang violence??? So weird, this fame complex thing. Watch a preview by clicking on the »

Even if I am not impressed with a show's premise in the first teaser minutes before the main credits roll, I'm open minded enough to give it the benefit of the doubt. Because, who knows! It could end up being awesome. Well, the awesome never came for me last night with The Mentalist (TV) Van Pelt (Amanda Righetti) is taking over the night shift at a Us Marshal's safe house. The subject, Justin, is going over his testimony in the case of convicting a drug dealer named Essex (Gabriel Salvador). Justin also has a daughter, Trina (Kaitlyn Dever) who is a great artist. There is also a Marshal named Gorman (Daniel Travis) who is obviously a little sweet on Van Pelt, and uses "wicked" way too much in conversation. Van Pelt is locking up and doing a perimeter check, when she's hit over the head and knocked out. Predictably, by the time she comes-to, »

In the event I didn't make it clear just how frakkin' excited I am for this Saturday's original creature feature starring none other than 80s teen queens Debbie (not just Deborah any more) Gibson and Tiffany, I wanted to give it another poke.
Some people line up for days for tickets for Star Trek or Harry Potter movies. Me? I'm a happy couch camper awaiting my B-movie of the week with all of it's cheesy, low-rent, wacky special effects that make you squirm, groan and laugh all at the same time.
Growing up, Saturdays and Sundays were meant for watching Roger Corman classics and Japanese monsters with heart. Remember Gamera, who always saved the kids in the end from the big bad monster terrorizing some Japanese sea port? They can be downright frightening or begging for your support and cheers.

A look at what's new on DVD today:
Directed by Joe Maggio
Released by Mpi Home Video
When a food critic ("Humpday"'s Justin Leonard) takes a butcher knife to the restaurant of a celebrity chef (James LeGros), the chef plots the ultimate revenge in this gory satirical thriller from director Joe Maggio. (My review from the Los Angeles Film Festival is here.)
"Case 39"
Directed by Christian Alvart
Released by Paramount
2010 is probably a year best forgotten by Renee Zellweger, who not only appeared in the execrable "My Own Love Song," which went straight to Netflix, but also this thriller that was filmed in 2006, but didn't see a release until last fall. Zellweger stars as a social worker whose latest case involving a child (Jodelle Ferland) that she believes is a victim of abuse leads to something far more terrifying. Bradley Cooper and Ian McShane co-star.

Whoa, what a way to start the new year! After several weeks of desolate conditions in terms of horror title releases, the floodgate just burst open.
This is the week you may want to think about using up those giftcards and cash you got from returning your holiday presents. Major releases are vying for your greenbacks alongside re-releases in Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D (in case Santa brought you a 3D TV recently), and other more independent titles. In addition to movies, there's also a Buffy motion comic and the next volume of a vampire's diary in paperback.
The Last Exorcism (Review)
Directed by Daniel Stamm
Starring Patrick Fabian (Interview), Ashley Bell, Louis Herthum, Tony Bentley
