'Tron 3' Gets Titled 'Tron: Ascension'?

6 hours ago | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Earlier this month, we reported that Disney's Tron 3 is set to start shooting this fall, with Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski confirmed to be back at the helm for this long-awaited follow-up. Today, Production Weekly is reporting that the sequel is now titled Tron: Ascension, with production scheduled to begin in Vancouver this October 2015 to February 2016. Disney has not confirmed the title or the production schedule at this time, but Production Weekly was the first to reveal the Terminator Genisys title for the first time back in December 2013, so it's certainly possible that Tron: Ascension is the actual title.

Garrett Hedlund, who played Sam Flynn in Tron: Legacy, is the only actor currently confirmed for Tron: Ascension at this time. With production said to begin later this year, hopefully we'll start hearing about whether or not Tron: Legacy cast members Jeff Bridges (Kevin Flynn), Olivia Wilde (Quorra) or Bruce Boxleitner »

Seventh Son review: Julianne Moore and Jeff Bridges lead a fantasy flop

27 March 2015 2:30 AM, PDT | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - Movie News news »

Director: Sergei Bodrov; Screenwriter: Chris Weitz; Starring: Ben Barnes, Julianne Moore, Jeff Bridges, Kit Harington, Alicia Vikander; Running time: 102 mins; Certificate: 12A

It's been a rocky year for Oscar winners embracing roles in fantasy blockbusters. Eddie Redmayne delivered a pungent ham and cheese performance in The Wachowskis' Jupiter Ascending, while Julianne Moore turns it up to 11 for her role as an evil witch in this week's Seventh Son.

Moore was years away from even setting foot on the set of Still Alice when she made Seventh Son (it's been trapped in post-production hell for a while), but it does make you wonder if there's some truth to the myth that Oscar winners seem destined for an immediate career stumble. Moore at least seems to be having fun with her role as Seventh Son's Mother Malkin. To say she's chewing the scenery would be a slight misnomer seeing as so »

7 alternative Disney Princesses from Star Wars, Pretty Woman and more

27 March 2015 2:30 AM, PDT | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - Movie News news »

A classic fairy tale is brought back to life this month with the release of Disney's new live-action Cinderella movie. Downton Abbey's Lily James is the latest star to become a Disney Princess, donning the glass slippers to take on the title role for director Kenneth Branagh.

Though Cinderella is very much a princess in the traditional mould, the ever-expanding Disney tendrils mean that new female characters are being inducted into the studio's roster all the time. The House of Mouse now owns Star Wars, Marvel and Pixar, and when you add the studio's Touchstone Pictures arm into the mix there's a wealth of memorable movies out there.

Everyone knows about Cinderella, Snow White, Aurora and the rest, but Digital Spy wants to highlight those who are part of the extended Disney Princess family. Read on to see our alternative choices below...

Seventh Son Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Release Dates All Coming This May

26 March 2015 8:39 PM, PDT | TheHDRoom | See recent TheHDRoom news »

Endless visual effects and the one and only Jeff Bridges collide early this summer in Seventh Son, Universal's ambitious fantasy epic co-starring Julianne Moore and Ben Barnes that will make its Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD debut in mid-May.

The Seventh Son Digital HD release date is slated for May 12, 2015. A week later on May 19 is when the film will arrive on VOD, while the Blu-ray and DVD release date is yet another week later on May 26.

The North American box office was not kind to Seventh Son with only $17.2 million in ticket receipts from a budget of roughly $95 million. International ticket sales drove the gross earnings to $109.8 million, but don't expect a sequel to materialize given those results.

Despite its struggles, Universal is standing by Seventh Son for its home video debut with a nice selection of bonus features on the Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD combo pack as »

Seventh Son movie review: witches be crazy

26 March 2015 3:26 PM, PDT | www.flickfilosopher.com | See recent FlickFilosopher news »

Like Monty Python without the comedy, or at least without the intentional comedy. Jeff Bridges’ saving throw against the Phoning It In curse fails! I’m “biast” (pro): nothing

I’m “biast” (con): the trailer looked boring and generic

I have not read the source material

(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)

Something about creatures of the dark and a Blood Moon and a young man (poor Ben Barnes: Killing Bono) who’s sure he’s destined for more than moisture farming– er, I mean, pig farming, and the 20th-level mage who will teach him to battle the creatures of the dark who are rising because of the Blood Moon and stuff. “Signs of evil are everywhere,” says that one unnamed character and you’ll just have to take his word on that because they were saving up the FX budget for the final CGI creature battle. »

Cannes: New Movies From Pixar, Woody Allen Expected at 68th Film Festival

26 March 2015 11:55 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

There are still three weeks to go before the Cannes Film Festival unveils its official-selection lineup, but so far, the latest Pixar 3D animated extravaganza and new films from Woody Allen, Todd Haynes, Jeff Nichols, Denis Villeneuve and Arnaud Desplechin appear to be securing their positions in the event’s 68th annual edition (May 13-24).

In keeping with his longtime habit of avoiding festival accolades, Allen will likely receive an out-of-competition berth for his 45th feature, “Irrational Man,” starring Joaquin Phoenix and Emma Stone (who starred in the director’s “Magic in the Moonlight”). Among other U.S. fare, Cannes will get an early start on the summer blockbuster season with Disney/Pixar’s feature toon “Inside Out,” marking a second trip to the Croisette for director Pete Docter (who co-helmed with Ronaldo Del Carmen) after his “Up” opened the festival in 2009. As already announced, George Miller’s “Mad Max: Fury Road, »

Seventh Son Review

26 March 2015 11:15 AM, PDT | www.themoviebit.com | See recent TheMovieBit news »

Fantasy has seen something of a resurgence in the last decade and a half. For years consigned to the niche market, Peter Jackson changed all that, and made it cool to like tales of dungeons and dragons again. Seventh Son however, is nothing so eloquent as Tolkein's tale. With a heavy reliance on CGI and some star power in the cast, it's an entirely forgettable fantasy adventure that will neither dazzle the crowd or leave the audience with a completely sour taste. Jeff Bridges, said star power, plays John Gregory, a seventh son of a seventh son, something which gifts him extraordinary strength and agility. Because of this, he is tasked with some supernatural policing duties, as well as recruiting others like him. Using his abilities to battle shape-shifting witches, he finds himself in the unenviable position of having to take on a new recruit (Ben Barnes) with only a »

Tom Ford's Next Movie is 'Nocturnal Animals', Could Julianne Moore Starc

24 March 2015 12:42 PM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Tom Ford is more than just a fashion designer, he's also the director of the movie A Single Man, which should have won Colin Firth an Oscar over Jeff Bridges in 2010 and would have even been a better film for Julianne Moore to receive an Oscar instead of Still Alice. But it wasn't meant to be, despite how great that film and its performances were. Ford, however, hasn't been quick to make a follow-up to the 2009 feature, but it appears it's time for a sophomore effort. amz asin="0446582905" size="small"Ford is ready to begin work on Nocturnal Animals an adaptation of the Austin Wright novel "Tony and Susan". The 83rd Academy Awards: If I had been a voter

After a brief delay, this series has returned. Yes, once again I’m going to be taking a look back at a recent Oscar lineup and explaining what my vote would have been in each of the big eight categories we all follow so intently each season. I previously mentioned that potentially I could do this once a week with previous Academy Award ceremonies, and while I’m going to be truing to do that, time will still tell. Again, if nothing else, this gives you an interesting look into my cinematic tastes. Over the course of the year you can sort of get a feel for what my current favorites are, but now we can look to the past a bit more. Alright then, here goes nothing folks…behold my picks: Best Picture – The Social Network The nominees here for this ceremony were 127 Hours, Black Swan, The Fighter, Inception, »

All the details and special features, including artwork, are below.

My Dinner with Andre – released June 16th

In Louis Malle’s captivating and philosophical My Dinner with André, actor and playwright Wallace Shawn sits down with friend and theater director André Gregory at an Upper West Side restaurant, and the two proceed into an alternately whimsical and despairing confessional on love, death, money, and all the superstition in between. Playing variations on their own New York–honed personas, Shawn and Gregory, who also wrote the screenplay, dive in with introspective, intellectual gusto, »

Joseph Kosinski returning to direct Disney's Tron 3

Tron: Legacy's Joseph Kosinski will return to direct the third instalment in the series.

Disney has brought Kosinski back into the fold for the science fiction sequel, which is rumoured to be shooting in Vancouver later this year.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio is yet to give Tron 3 the official green light.

Garrett Hedlund is expected to reprise his role as Sam Flynn in the latest film. It is unclear if Tron: Legacy's other leads, Jeff Bridges and Olivia Wilde, will be returning.

Kosinski has previously said that the sequel will centre on Sam and Wilde's character Quorra outside the Grid.

"I think we will pick [up] with where Tron: Legacy left off with Quorra in the real world and what does that mean and the possibilities it opens up for the next chapter," he said.

'Tron 3' Gets 'Tron: Legacy' Director Joseph Kosinski

11 March 2015 6:14 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Yesterday, it was widely reported that Tron 3 was moving forward, with shooting set to begin in Vancouver this fall. Now it is being confirmed that Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski will also helm this follow-up. At this time, Garrett Hedlund, who played Sam Flynn, son of Jeff Bridges's Kevin Flynn, is the only actor said to be returning.

While it is now confirmed that Tron 3 will start shooting sometime in October, Disney has not yet officially green lit the second sequel to the 1982 cult hit Tron. It is said that studio operators in Vancouver are competing to land the production. No booking has been confirmed. Vancouver will also host another sci-fi tentpole sequel this year, with Star Trek 3 shooting sometime this spring.

Tron 3 set to shoot in Vancouver this winter, Joseph Kosinski and Garrett Hedlund to return

11 March 2015 11:42 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

After Tron Legacy, the long-awaited sequel to the 1982 classic Tron, debuted during the Christmas season in 2010, rumours have circulated that a third (and perhaps final) film would make its way to the big screen, with Legacy director Joseph Kosinski (Oblivion) continuously attached to the threequel without any concreate news or official confirmation from Disney, the franchise owners.

Well, yesterday Vancouver-based website VanCity Buzz reported that Tron 3 is going ahead, and that is it gearing up for a shoot this October in the city. Furthermore, both Koskinski and his Legacy star Garrett Hedlund are set to return, with Hedlund reprising his role as Sam Flynn, the son of Tron creator Kevin, played by Oscar winner Jeff Bridges in both films. There’s no word on whether Bridges will return in some form, or Olivia Wilde, who co-starred in Legacy as Quorra.

‘Tron 3′ set to begin filming soon with Joseph Kosinski returning to direct

Don’t ever say that Disney doesn’t like getting more green.

It seems like the House of Mouse will actually be moving forward with a sequel to 2010’s Tron Legacy, according to a report by Badass Digest on Tuesday. The film starred Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde, and Jeff Bridges and was a continuation of the original Tron from 1982.

The original report came from Vancity Buzz out of Vancouver, which reported that Tron 3 would be filming in Vancouver this fall with Hedlund set to return. Badass Digest has since also confirmed that the movie is happening and that director Joseph Kosinski will be coming back also.

The question that many are posing with this movie is why Disney would want to move forward with it even though the other film didn’t make as much money. Tron: Legacy barely brought back its budget and the film wasn’t a »

Tron 3 To Shoot This Autumn

Well here's a surprise. Given the lacklustre critical and box-office performance of Tron: Legacy, and the eerie silence in place of any news about a follow-up, you might have assumed that Disney had quietly put the project to bed. But almost two years since we last heard anything, it now turns out that Joesph Kosinski's cameras will roll on the threequel in Vancouver this autumn. Local Vancouver newspaper Vancity Buzz got the scoop, which has since been backed up by Badass Digest. There are no story details so far, but Garrett Hedlund is confirmed as returning to the snug wetsuit.Tron: Legacy, most felt, was visually stunning (apart from the awful CG youngified Jeff Bridges) but narratively not so cutting edge. It involved Sam Flynn (Hedlund), the son of Bridges' game creator Kevin, entering a game world much evolved from Disney's 1982 original, in search of his father.
