What Michael Bay Said About Kate Beckinsale Is Business as Usual in Hollywood

7 hours ago | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

If you've seen any of Michael Bay's films, especially in the last ten years, you can see he's very particular about what kind of woman he likes to see on screen. Back in 2001, when he was working on Pearl Harbor he left an impression on newcomer Kate Beckinsale by repeatedly telling the press he specifically hired someone who wasn't too attractive. And it doesn't stop there. According to Digital Spy Beckinsale, who has spoken about her issues with the Transformers director before, got to talking about the experience again. "I don't think I fitted the type of actress Michael Bay the director had met before. I think he was baffled by me because my boobs weren't bigger than my head and I wasn't blonde," she said. "I'd just had my daughter and had lost weight, but was told that if I got the part, I'd have to work out. »

Netflix Fighting Order to Halt Streaming of ‘Masterminds’

27 May 2016 11:13 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Netflix says that it will seek an expedited appeal and stay of a judge’s decision Friday that prevents it from streaming the Zach Galifianakis comedy “Masterminds” next month, ahead of a planned theatrical release for the film on September 30.

Judge Michael E. Wiles, presiding over the Relavity bankruptcy proceedings, ruled that an early streaming release of the film and the Kate Beckinsale horror flick “The Disappointments Room,” would effectively gut a reorganization plan he previously approved for the troubled studio. Netflix appealed to stream both movies before their theatrical releases. “The Disappointments Room” is due in theaters in December.

“Sometimes it falls upon the shoulders of one party to be the bearer of unpleasant news,” Netflix’s attorney, Stephen Mick, said on Monday. “And the unpleasant news here is that Relativity and the bank and the bond company all negotiated, all signed, and all agreed to a contract that »

Netflix Loses Court Bid to Stream Relativity Films ‘Masterminds,’ ‘Disappointments Room’ Early

27 May 2016 9:29 AM, PDT | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

A New York Bankruptcy Court judge has dealt another blow to Netflix’s ongoing struggle with their Relativity Studios output deal. The platform lost a bid that would force the studio to hand over Kristen Wiig‘s “Masterminds” and Kate Beckinsale‘s “The Disappointments Room” for streaming ahead of their 2016 theatrical releases, media reports said Friday. Netflix has been locked in a contentious court battle with Relativity — who emerged from bankruptcy earlier this year — in no small part thanks to their exclusive output deal that guarantees Ryan Kavanaugh‘s company millions in licensing for their films and serves as collateral for more loans. »

Netflix’s plans to put Relativity’s Zach Galifianakis-starring Masterminds and the Kate Beckinsale-starring The Disappointments Room up on its streaming service next month were unplugged today by a federal judge. This means all of the big names return, like Johnny DeppAnne HathawayHelena Bonham Carter, and of course, Alice herself Mia Wasikowska. Now, it wouldn't be much of a sequel without a few new characters including the villain Time, played by Sacha Baron Cohen. Another important thing to note is that, once again, Alan Rickman lends his voice to the Blue Caterpillar, making this his last big-screen project. Judge Halts Netflix's Plan to Stream Zach Galifianakis Comedy in June

27 May 2016 5:45 AM, PDT | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

Relativity Media can breathe a sigh of relief. On Friday, a bankruptcy judge stopped Netflix from streaming next month the films, Masterminds, a comedy starring Zach Galifianakis, and The Disappointments Room, a horror film that features Kate Beckinsale. Relativity and Netflix have been feuding in court over the streaming giant’s controversial plan to put the two films on its service in June ahead of theatrical releases later this year. Relativity has argued that Netflix is precluded from doing so because it is at odds with the judicially-approved reorganization of the Ryan Kavanaugh studio. In turn, Netflix argued that after

Love & Friendship – Review

27 May 2016 5:29 AM, PDT | WeAreMovieGeeks.com | See recent WeAreMovieGeeks.com news »

Film comedies packed witty, biting humor and whip-smart dialog are pretty rare these days. So Love & Friendship, director Whit Stillman’s screen adaptation of Jane Austen’s lesser-known early short novel “Lady Susan,” is particularly welcome. With Kate Beckinsale shinning in the lead role as clever, ruthless Lady Susan, the witty comedy is even more delicious.

Love & Friendship is pure fun, a brilliant comedy filled with laugh-out-loud moments and terrific ensemble performances by a largely British cast, making it entertaining even for those who are not big fans of Jane Austen or costume films.

Unlike other more familiar Austen works, Love & Friendship is more comedy than romance, although there is some of that too. The story might be described as a comedy of manners but that label makes this very funny film sound more tame than it really is. The story is set in the 1790s, a little earlier than most Austen stories, »

Movie Review: Love & Friendship

27 May 2016 2:00 AM, PDT | CinemaNerdz | See recent CinemaNerdz news »

About halfway through the latest Jane Austen film adaptation, Love & Friendship, I realized this film was not made for me. As I listened to audience members chuckle at lines that seemed too cheesy or dated to me, I knew this would be an example of others enjoying a film much more than I did. There were certainly moments of Love & Friendship I enjoyed, but it just felt like I was stuck in a high school classroom again reading a book I had zero interest in reading. Almost nothing in the film gripped my attention, from the various relationships, to the “quirky” 1790s dialogue, it all just seemed like an inside joke I was not a part of. I guess this is what non-superhero film fans feel like when they watch the latest Captain America movie.

Love & Friendship can be classified as a romantic comedy and follows widow Lady Susan Vernon (Kate Beckinsale, »

Love & Friendship review – Whit Stillman's Austen drama is a racy delight

26 May 2016 7:30 AM, PDT | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

Kate Beckinsale is a becoming widow without means in an adaptation that reinvigorates the breeches, buttons and bows cliches

Related: Kate Beckinsale: ‘Our phones were tapped by spooks when we were growing up’

What audacity, what elegance! Here is a hilariously self-aware period comedy polished to a brilliant sheen. Whit Stillman was probably born to direct a Jane Austen movie. But he has found a new way of dramatising Austen – or just found a new Austen, an Austen who appears to have pre-emptively absorbed 21st-century satire and inoculated herself against it. This Stillman has done by lighting on an early, posthumously published novella, Lady Susan, bringing it to the screen, and renaming it after a quite separate piece of juvenilia, thus playfully echoing the classic noun balances of her more famous titles.

Relativity, Netflix Lock Horns in Protracted Hearing Over ‘Masterminds’ Release

19 May 2016 3:04 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

The legal confrontation between Relativity Studios and Netflix entered into a protracted and contentious phase May 19, in an afternoon-long hearing that saw Netflix push for the right to stream two Relativity titles prior to their theatrical releases.

The wrangling over “Masterminds” and “The Disappointments Room” encompassed some tough exchanges. Attorneys for Netflix, led by Scott McNutt and Stephen R. Mick, took an aggressive stance from the beginning, with an opening statement that raised the question of whether the proceedings even belonged in bankruptcy court or, as lawyers for Netflix argued, in binding arbitration.

Judge Michael Wiles batted back, saying he wanted to hear the evidence before deciding whether to kick the matter into arbitration — and mentioning as well that suggestions had been made to him that Netflix was taking its current position at the hearing “in bad faith.”

Kate Beckinsale: ‘Our phones were tapped by spooks when we were growing up’

It hath long been decreed that whensoever two or more Britons shall gather together in Los Angeles, the talk shall soon enough turn ... to Marmite. Or in Kate Beckinsale’s case, “Marmite characters”, such as her lead role, the delightfully daunting Lady Susan, in Whit Stillman’s sprightly Jane Austen adaptation Love and Friendship.

“I was at the end of a long day of interviews once and I found myself deep in a Marmite conversation with an American journalist.
