What's more precious than The Lord of the Rings Trilogy? 15 years of it!

On December 19, 2001, The Fellowship of the Ring was released in theatres and ushered in a new era of the fantasy genre. An endeavour eluded by filmmakers for decades, J.R.R. Tolkien’s masterpiece was brought to life by director Peter Jackson and the trilogy has since become a staple in pop culture worldwide.

With a budget of close to $100M and a box office gross of over $800M, it should come as no surprise that Fellowship remains one of the most successful – and awarded – films of all time.

Celebrating The Lord of the Rings Trilogy on its 15th Anniversary

Ricky Church celebrates the 15th anniversary of The Lord of the Rings Trilogy…

15 years ago today, audiences worldwide were introduced to Peter Jackson’s adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic fantasy The Lord of the Rings. I had just started high school when The Fellowship of the Ring was getting ready to hit theaters and my only exposure at the time was the teaser trailer that announced all three films would be released annually during the holidays. I was intrigued and sought out the books before Fellowship’s release. Tolkien’s world quickly enthralled me and I wondered how Peter Jackson would bring Middle-earth to life.

By the time 2003 rolled around, only one film series had affected me as much as Lord of the Rings and that was Star Wars. Jackson had done an excellent job bringing Tolkien’s world to the big screen, adapting the novels that many thought could not be adapted properly. »

What Is the Most Shocking TV Twist of the 21st Century, So Far? — IndieWire Critics Survey

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Tuesday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best show currently on TV?” can be found at the end of this post.)

This week’s question: What is the most shocking TV twist of the 21st century and why? (Warning: Here be spoilers. Lots of them.)

The saintly Teri Bauer dying at Nina’s hands in the “24” first-season finale. That twofold trauma of loss and betrayal has given me such trust issues that I now suspect every person around Kiefer Sutherland’s President Tom Kirkman on “Designated Survivor” of being a mole. ‘Walking Dead’ Recap: Negan Offers ‘Service’ With an Evil Smile (Spoilers)

13 November 2016 7:25 PM, PST | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Spoiler alert: Do not read until you’ve watched episode four of this season of “The Walking Dead,” titled “Service.”

All is quiet in Alexandria. “The Walking Dead’s” “Service” opens with three minutes of near silence, as Michonne and Rick wake up next to each other, she slips quietly out the front door and he perches baby Judy on his shoulder. For a moment, it feels like this might be a flashback to a time before Negan murdered two members of their group and brave, indomitable Rick was reduced to a quivering wreck, but no: This is the new normal, or as close to it as they’re going to get.

Negan arrives unexpectedly and ahead of schedule, the better to keep Alexandria’s residents perpetually off-balance. He appears first as a shadow on the safe zone’s gate, whistling like Peter Lorre child murderer in “M.”  He’s just as bad up close, and »

Did the New Wonder Woman Trailer Reveal the Real Villain?

3 November 2016 3:11 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Earlier today, Warner Bros. debuted the second trailer for its highly-anticipated superhero adventure Wonder Woman, which may or may not have dropped a huge bombshell, hiding in plain sight. While these details aren't confirmed, it's possible that Wonder Woman is following in the footsteps of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which used one of its trailers to confirm the presence of the oft-rumored Doomsday. There may be potential Spoilers for Wonder Woman below, so read on at your own risk.

This trailer gave us a new glimpse at Danny Huston's mysterious character, who still has not been officially identified at this time. We can see in the footage that he is a World War I German military officer, who is also seen being flung by Wonder Woman's Lasso of Truth. Another shot in the trailer showed a deadly gas being developed that could even shatter the glass in traditional gas masks, »

Pass through the ages with the new Civilization VI launch trailer

17 October 2016 12:54 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

With the release date for Sid Meier’s Civilization VI just around the corner, Firaxis and 2K have released a launch trailer that leads you by the hand through the ages, through moments of peace, exploration, war and science.  Everything you would come to expect from the Civilisation game itself.  Watch the wonderful new trailer below…

The trailer starts on a calm sea with a sailor (voiced by the great Sean Bean) charting his course, from then we are treated to the sights and sounds through the ages, from the Bronze age to World War 2 when we see Sean Bean’s apparently immortal character flying a beautiful Spitfire.  From there it’s off into space with his female companion.

The Civilization VI launch trailer is one of the most brilliantly put together trailers I have seen in such a long time.  Sean Bean’s character represents the player charting their course through the game, »

James Bond, and the perils of casting a new 007

12 October 2016 10:21 AM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Mark Harrison Oct 14, 2016

With the question of who's playing James Bond in James Bond 25 unresolved, we look back at the casting conundrums 007 has faced before.

Since 1962, fewer men have played James Bond than have walked on the moon. Despite the relatively long turnaround of the role, the subject of who might follow in the footsteps of Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig in the future has fuelled many column inches and tabloid splashes.

It feels as if speculation about the seventh 007 in Eon Productions' long-lived spy franchise has been at fever pitch since this time last year, when Craig was doing the promotional rounds for Spectre and commented that he would rather “slash [his] wrists” than play Bond again. It's only after a year of constant reports on the subject that his far more optimistic comments at last weekend's New Yorker Festival »

Voice dubs in English are provided by Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad), Lena Headey and Sean Bean (Game of Thrones).

‘Game of Thrones’ Prequels: More Young Ned and 7 More Spin-Offs We’d Like to See

20 September 2016 5:09 PM, PDT | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

Having “Game of Thrones” win another 12 Emmys is a bittersweet high for fans who are simultaneously reminded that their favorite show is coming to an end in two short seasons. This anticipatory mourning has created renewed interest in life after “Game of Thrones” — not through the power of the Red God — but by hoping that HBO will green light a spin-off.

As George R.R. Martin teased at the Emmys, he has “thousands of pages of fake history” set in the world of Westeros and the adjacent Essos, ripe for adaptation. This is not news to readers of his novels, who are often sidetracked by his long passages of fully realized historical context. And since “Game of Thrones” series creators David Benioff and Dan Weiss have tried to keep flashbacks and exposition at a minimum, there’s still a wealth of stories that haven’t been represented on the screen.

Anna Friel and Paula Malcomson have joined the cast of Jimmy McGovern’s six-part BBC drama “Broken,” starring “Lord of the Rings” actor Sean Bean.

The prime-time drama for flagship channel BBC One starts filming this week in Liverpool and stars Bean as a modern, maverick Catholic priest presiding over a Northern English urban parish who is confidant, counsellor and confessor to a congregation struggling to reconcile its beliefs with the challenges of daily life in contemporary Britain.

Friel, who worked with McGovern on the third season of “The Street” in 2009, will play a single mother living with her three children and mother in the heart of the community.

“‘The Street’ gave me one of my most rewarding roles, and afterwards I promised myself that I would collaborate with Jimmy McGovern again,” said Friel. “When the chance came up to work on ‘Broken,’ I jumped at it. It’s a typically brave and truthful script from Jimmy »
