Exclusive: C.J. Thomason Talks Aftermath and More!

21 July 2014 9:00 AM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Cj Thomason stars alongside Monica Keena and Edward Furlong in the new survival horror film Aftermath. Recently Thomason sat down with Dread Central to discuss his feelings about the movie.

"Aftermath is people surviving, doing everything they can to survive a nuclear fallout," Thomason said. "It's like it would probably happen in real life. They don't know why it's happening. They don't know who attacked."

He added, "They don't know the extent of the attack, and when it comes down to it, the movie is literally just focused on them surviving because that's where we would be. We're not going to have our iPhones updating us. We're not going to have our news media informing us... If you're lucky enough to be around a ham radio, you'll probably know a little bit of information. But it's a claustrophobic look at the survival of nuclear war."

The Dusty VHS Corner: Stock Footage Spectaculars

Tom Jolliffe delves into The Dusty VHS Corner for a trio of stock footage spectaculars in Strategic Command, Stormcatcher and Steel Sharks

In the mid to late 90’s, there was an almost epidemic boom of straight to video films that featured plot-lines involving submarines or fighter planes. Why? Well given the vast majority of these films were shot for about $3.00 each, the idea was to have plot-lines with these elements in order to use stock shots of F-16 fighter jets, stealth fighters, U-boats and other military based vehicles of air and sea in order to give the illusion that these films were more lavishly budgeted than they actually were, and indeed to further save time in the remainder of the shoot. If you go into a film knowing that you’ve already got 15 minutes of screen-time ready in a stock footage library, then you’ve only got to worry about »

The Overlooked Hotel – Jt Walsh

12 March 2014 5:00 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

The Overlooked Hotel, having found a spare room for Stephen Tobolowsky, now welcomes another deserving guest, the late, great Jt Walsh. You know, that really talented guy from that thing you really like.

Jt Walsh, in many ways the definitive supporting character actor, passed away suddenly in 1998. He succumbed to a heart attack at the relatively tender age of 54, but left behind a quite astonishingly varied and accomplished body of work, despite never being nominated for anything other than a Primetime Emmy and a couple of SAG cast awards. If nothing else, this amply demonstrates that far too often, real talent goes unrewarded and although (of course) not every0ne can be lavished with awards and in any given year the same performance is likely to hoover up every award going, the fact that Walsh never received an Oscar, Golden Globe or SAG award (or even a solo nomination) is a glaring omission. »

[A Brew To A Kill] ‘Flatliners’ and Wake Up Dead

5 February 2014 5:00 AM, PST | Destroy the Brain | See recent Destroy the Brain news »

What happens in the moments before death? When the brain shuts down and those synapses fire for the last time, what is released? Maybe memories drift in and out. Is that where the cliche of life flashing before your eyes comes from? What if our darkest secrets and biggest sins were waiting?

Medical student, Nelson (Kiefer Sutherland) recruits four classmates for a dangerous experiment. He wants to flat-line for one minute and then be revived. With him is a freshly expelled, reckless Kevin Bacon, an uptight Oliver Platt, a womanizing William Baldwin and lastly a death obsessed Julia Roberts. After Nelson is successfully revived his cohorts compete for who flat-lines next and for how long. But it isn’t a harmless apparition, this malicious spirit wants blood and perhaps revenge.

I won’t waste any time scrutinizing the “science” in this movie. Besides the inconsistent morality is far more interesting. »
