Great Job, Internet!: Here’s how they made Speed’s immortal bus-jump scene

22 June 2017 2:06 PM, PDT | avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news »

Speed is one of the great ’90s action movies, a clean post-Die Hard action flick that elevated a preposterous (but compelling) premise with Keanu Reeves’ physical showmanship and Sandra Bullock’s considerable charisma. But that almost wasn’t the case. Stephen Baldwin actually turned down the role before it went to Reeves, and Bullock’s part was almost occupied by Ellen DeGeneres. Thank god they didn’t, though. As a new video from Art Of The Scene details, the likability of Reeves and Bullock helped sell viewers on the film’s gonzo centerpiece scene, in which a bus leaps over a missing chunk of interstate.

The video goes into great detail on how director Jan De Bont pulled the scene off, filming it from five different angles to stretch a .49-second jump into 11 seconds of screen-time. That might make the actual stunt seem somewhat puny, but seeing the »

Patriots Day review – gripping account of the Boston marathon bombings

The narrative pulse of this tense thriller about real-life events is strong enough to override Mark Wahlberg’s irritating heroics as a fictional cop

It is easy to imagine an alternative universe in which there is an exciting film entitled Bowling Green, directed by Michael Bay. Ralph Fiennes gets to play a chuckling terrorist who detonates the gigantic bomb in Bowling Green, Kentucky in 2011, and then Peter Sarsgaard and Meryl Streep play the liberal media nabobs who conspire with the Obama White House to cover it up, getting amnesia pills in the water supply, pulping newspapers, changing websites. Mark Wahlberg, Stephen Baldwin and Scott Baio play three Us Navy Seals whose wives were killed in the Bowling Green massacre; they accept a top secret terminate-with-extreme-prejudice mission – ’copter out to Kreplachistan where Fiennes is holed up in the Swedish embassy, having spent the host country’s entire Un aid budget on »

‘Reach for the Sky’ – The 7 Most Badass Movie Cowboys of All Time

Author: Matt Rodgers

As the DVD and Blu-ray release of Antoine Fuqua’s The Magnificent Seven rides into your homes, we take a look at those heroes, anti-heroes, and low down dirty scoundrels that would make up our own cinematic posse. Sadly, none of the movie cowboys come from the Mario Van Peebles, ahead of its time, diversity epic, Posse, despite a cast that includes Stephen Baldwin, Billy Zane, and Big Daddy Kane. Alas.

Imagine if Thandie Netwon’s Westworld progressive, Maeve Millay, were to swipe on her generic tablet to the page marked “Host Influences and Templates”, then we’d like to think that amongst the hundreds of profiles garnered from one of Hollywood’s richest genres, The Western, this mostly magnificent seven would make up the first page.

Scott Baio to Liberals Scared of Trump’s Presidency: ‘Grow Up’

17 January 2017 10:40 AM, PST | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Scott Baio doesn’t have much sympathy for Hollywood liberals horrified by the prospect of a Donald Trump presidency.

“Grow up,” he says.

“I was nervous for eight years with Obama. I had to suck it up and deal with it. Do the same, and maybe your country will be a better place than it was.”

Jake Chessum for Variety

The “Charles in Charge” and “Happy Days” star is part of a small but vocal band of entertainment-industry conservatives. While most actors threw their support behind Hillary Clinton, Baio was an enthusiastic Trump surrogate, tweeting about the candidate and speaking on his behalf at the Republican National Convention.

“He’s a fighter, and he won’t let anything slide,” says Baio. “So many Republican nominees always feel like they want to stay above the fray, and they get maligned and crushed with negative publicity, and they don’t do anything about it. »
