'Night at the Museum 2' Gets a Trailer

19 December 2008 1:45 PM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

The very first trailer for Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian has arrived online ... via the McDonald's Happy Meals website. Not exactly ideal viewing (who knew McDonald's was fighting their way into the trailer premiere game), but if you want to watch the preview, head on over here.

There doesn't look to be anything groundbreaking here -- if you were a fan of the first film, you should dig this one quite a bit. In fact, this looks just like the first Night at the Museum, except, like any sequel, there are more characters, more special effects and more gags. Story once again follows our clumsy night watchman (Ben Stiller) who rushes to the Smithsonian in Washington D.C. after his friends Octavius (Steve Coogan) and Jedediah (Owen Wilson) are accidentally shipped there. Also starring in the film are Amy Adams, Bill Hader, Ricky Gervais, Hank Azaria, Eugene Levy, »

Triumph, Tragedy: The 10 Best Film Documentaries of 2008

17 December 2008 1:39 PM, PST | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – One of the most wonderful things about the world of documentary film is the complete unpredictability of the form. It seems much easier to look at a list of upcoming works from major and minor narrative directors and know what’s going to stand out at the end of the year than to even attempt the same thing with an upcoming batch of documentaries.

Critics will tell you that they go into every film with a blank slate of opinion, but it’s naive to think that we don’t have different expectations for the next Coen brothers film than we do for the next Uwe Boll piece of “work.” (You were expecting a different word to end that sentence, weren’t you?) And most years shake out with a healthy mix of cinematic veterans and relative newcomers delivering movies of a somewhat predictable baseline of quality with a »

Night At The Museum 2 pics!

20 November 2008 6:17 PM, PST | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Now, one of the better Ben Stiller movies as late was Tropic Thunder. On of the other ones was a film called Night At The Museum, which made a bagillion dollars at the international box-office, which pretty much guaranteed it a sequel. Well, that sequel is 'in the can' as Hollywood folk say, and is winging its way to cinemas soon. The full title for the movie is Night At The Museum 2: Night At The Smithsonian. As you may be able to tell from the title, the gig takes place at the Smithsonian museum in Washington D.C.

Ben Stiller, Ricky Gervais, Robin Williams, Owen Wilson and Steve Coogan all return, along with new additions to the cast in the form of Amy Adams, Christopher Guest, Jonah Hill, Hank Azaria, Bill Hader, Ed Helms, Craig Robinson and Eugene Levy.

First Look: 'Night at the Museum 2'

20 November 2008 8:45 AM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

In anticipation of what's sure to be the first trailer (or teaser) for Night at the Museum 2, USA Today has unloaded the first official batch of photos -- most of which show off a few of the new characters, a couple of returning characters and a cameo from Jonah Hill (who plays a security guard). Above, you'll see Ben Stiller, returning as the bumbling guard, and Bill Hader, who's playing General George Custer. Director Shawn Levy and Stiller both chat up the film, claiming it's definitely better than the first one. And with a cast that includes Robin Williams, Dick Van Dyke, Owen Wilson, Steve Coogan, Ricky Gervais (all of whom are returning), Christopher Guest, Hank Azaria, Craig Robinson, Ed Helms, Eugene Levy, Bill Hader and Amy Adams, you can't really go wrong.

In the sequel, Stiller's Larry Daley goes in search of his friends (and museum pieces) Octavius »

New imagery from Ben Stiller’s Night At The Museum 2: Battle Of The Smithsonian has arrived online. Sure, the original was hardly a classic. But it made millions at the box office and kids enjoyed it. The new film at least offers even more funny folk in compensation for sitting through what will likely be a formulaic plot. Historical figures Such as, you ask? Well, in the pictures, which you can see in our gallery to the right, we’re introduced to Amy Adams as Amelia Earhart, Hank Azaria as villain Pharaoh Kahmunrah,... .

Blu-ray Review: Run Fatboy Run

30 September 2008 1:12 AM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Overweight lingerie store security guard Dennis (Simon Pegg) is still desperately in love with his ex-girlfriend Libby (Thandie Newton). The only problem is that he happened to leave her - while she was pregnant, mind you - on their wedding day, leaping out the back window of the church when his nerves suddenly got the better of him. Truth is, the usually sweet and charming (if a bit lazy) man hasn't finished a darn thing in his entire life, so when he gets it into his head the only way he can win Libby back is by running a charity-driven London marathon it's not exactly surprising no one, including the woman's smarmy new American health-obsessed beau, Whit (Hank Azaria), thinks he's going to be able to make it to the finish line. But Dennis is serious, and while his initial motives aren't exactly 100-percent above-board during his training, something strange and maybe altogether wonderful, »

DVD Review: Run Fatboy Run (2008)

27 September 2008 10:09 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Each and every one of the Friends lead actors failed to translate their TV stardom into big-time movie fame. Even Jennifer Aniston became better known as a tabloid item than as a performer, and the others settled into supporting work or less.

Given that fate, it makes sense that David Schwimmer apparently has decided to try his hand behind the camera. He makes his debut as a feature film director at the helm of 2008's comedy Run Fatboy Run. Commitment-phobic Dennis Doyle (Simon Pegg) leaves his pregnant fiance Libby (Thandie Newton) at the altar. Five years later, Dennis figures out that he still carries a torch for Libby. The pair maintain an amicable relationship for the benefit of their son Jake (Matthew Fenton), but Libby seems to feel no romance for her former flame.

In fact, Libby has moved on to a new boyfriend, health nut Whit (Hank Azaria). Even »

Levy is 'Back,' But With Mandate

22 July 2008 | ioncinema | See recent ioncinema news »

- Shawn Levy has lined up another project, but you won't be seeing any romping dinosaur skeletons or mischievous monkeys in this pic.  According to THR, the helmer, most notably of Night at the Museum fame, will be producing the coming-of-age dramedy The Way Back for Manadate Pictures.  Levy was originally attached also as director when the project was being handled by Fox Searchlight.  There is currently no one fixed to direct the pic. The script for 'Back' was snatched up by Fox Searchlight soon after it was placed within the top ten on the 2007 Black List, an annual list of yet-to-be picked up favorites compiled by 150 film executives and distributed throughout the movie business.   The pic, based on the script by Nat Faxon and Jim Rash, revolves around a teenage boy who befriends the operator of a water park, who in turn helps him reconnect with his mother and confront his abusive stepfather. »

'Simpsons' voice actors reach deal

2 June 2008 | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

The standoff between "The Simpsons" voice cast and series producer 20th Century Fox TV is over.

After months of negotiations, the cast of Fox's long-running animated series reached a new four-year deal with the studio during the weekend.

Under the pact, the top actors will be paid nearly $400,000 per episode. While this is lower than the reported $500,000 the cast originally sought, it remains a significant increase from their current paychecks of about $300,000 an episode.

Additionally, Dan Castellaneta, who voices Homer Simpson and has penned several "Simpsons" episodes over the years, is being named a consulting producer.

Castellaneta and most of the other key "Simpsons" voice players -- Julie Kavner (Marge), Nancy Cartwright (Bart), Yeardley Smith (Lisa) and Hank Azaria (Moe) -- are slated to begin work on the upcoming 20th season today with a table read.

As of Monday, the status of Harry Shearer, who voices Mr. Burns and Ned Flanders, among other characters, was unclear. Because of a last-minute snag, his deal did not close with the other cast members', and it was not clear if he would show up for today's table read. »

Interview: Brett Morgen (Chicago 10)

29 February 2008 | ioncinema | See recent ioncinema news »

- Director Brett Morgen (The Kid Stays in the Picture) is a fast and voracious talker - he didn’t allow for many questions to be asked by the fellow journalists who met him last Monday in New York during promotion of his Sundance opener, Chicago 10. He seems to be preoccupied with sending out the right message about his latest project, a special documentary that mixes original animation and archival footage to explore the build-up of the Chicago Conspiracy Trial, its consequences and its lessons. He wants to make sure that nobody mistakes it for one of those 'too often boring' and 'very serious historical documentaries that play on PBS' because his movie, he says, is meant to be entertaining, although he hopes young people can learn some lessons about what to do with their political lives today.Eight activists were put on trial by the government after the »
