Full Red Band Trailer for Elijah Wood’s Maniac Slashes Online

25 May 2012 8:46 AM, PDT | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

Last week someone got their hands on an incomplete trailer for Elijah Wood’s “Maniac”, and it was quite the intense little affair. Now here’s the full version, still pretty intense, and still pretty Nsfw. The film was recently making the rounds over at Cannes, which is also where this French-subtitled trailer hails from, from the looks of it. No release date yet, but late 2012 is probably your best bet. Check out Woods being a killer, and try not to imagine Sean Astin appearing in the background trying to talk him down from his murderous ways. Just when the streets seemed safe, a serial killer with a fetish for scalps is back and on the hunt. Frank is the withdrawn owner of a mannequin store, but his life changes when young artist Anna appears asking for his help with her new exhibition. As their friendship develops and Frank’s obsession escalates, »

'Hollywood Treasure' dances with 'The Wizard of Oz's' ruby slippers

22 May 2012 3:00 PM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

Maybe some of that movie storytelling magic is rubbing off, because Syfy's "Hollywood Treasure" launches its new season on Tuesday, May 22, by spotlighting the Holy Grail of Tinseltown collectibles: Dorothy's ruby slippers from "The Wizard of Oz."

As most "Oz" fans know, there actually is a handful of known pairs of these slippers, including an Arabian-style pair never used in the film that were auctioned off last season as part of Debbie Reynolds' collection. But the footwear that Joe Maddalena, owner of Profiles in History, auctions in this new episode is the pair shown when Judy Garland's Dorothy clicks her heels together to go home.

"They arguably are the most important pair, because the pair in the Smithsonian and a pair that were stolen from the Judy Garland Museum were mismatched," Maddalena tells Zap2it. "I've done this 26 years now, and a couple of years ago when my »

Hollywood Treasure: Joe Maddalena Teases Season Two

In handling the sales of Dorothy's Ruby Red Slippers from The Wizard of Oz, Elvis' guitar, hand-written lyrics by John Lennon, the archive for Alex Haley's Roots or auctioning Trinity's catsuit from The Matrix, collectibles expert Joe Maddalena is undeniably tied to pop-culture history like no other. Owner and operator of Profiles in History, Joe is the world's preeminent auctioneer-collector of original props, costumes and memorabilia from the entertainment industry as well as the star of Syfy's hit reality series (about his business), Hollywood Treasure, debuting its second season tonight.

Last season viewers traveled with Joe and his crew as they reunited Chitty Chitty Bang Bang with Dick Van Dyke at The Tonight Show, found and sold The Wicked Witch of the West's hat, auctioned the estate of screen legend Debbie Reynolds and inarguably helped extend life for numerous seniors selling »

'Lord of the Rings' star Sean Astin shows off his hobbit gear for Syfy's 'Hollywood Treasure' -- Video

21 May 2012 7:00 AM, PDT | EW - Inside TV | See recent EW.com - Inside TV news »

For the second season premiere of Syfy’s showbiz memorabilia show Hollywood Treasure (airing May 22 at 10 p.m. Et), Sean Astin worked with appraiser and show host Joe Maddalena to refurbish his helmet from his 1993 sports film classic Rudy. When Astin was approached about the show, which includes auctions of major pop-culture artifacts, the actor tells EW that he was “a little wary — I didn’t want to sell anything.” But, he says, then he learned the show isn’t just about money. “It’s also about appreciating the nature of the memorabilia, where it comes from and why it’s so meaningful to people, »

Celebrities Catch Glimpse Of Rare Eclipse

21 May 2012 1:06 AM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Chloe Grace Moretz, Bryan Cranston and Chris Colfer were among the celebrities who felt out of this world over the weekend after catching a glimpse of a rare solar eclipse.

Sky watchers in western America and Asia were warned to to protect their eyes as the rare "ring of fire" eclipse crossed their skies on Sunday, and a number of stars took to the Twitter.com pages to discuss the event, in which the moon passes over the sun leaving a golden edge.

Glee's Chris Colfer asked, "Solar eclipse! Solar eclipse! Anyone else watching it through four pairs of sunglasses?" while Breaking Bad star Cranston simply wrote, "What a world."

Sean Astin and Billy Ray Cyrus posted pictures of the natural phenomenon, while Jenna Elfman complained, "Just spent so long trying to figure out how to view the damn solar eclipse w/o (without) going blind, I missed it."

However, not everyone was impressed - Ryan Seacrest was happy to be kept in the dark during the eclipse, tweeting, "Watching TV instead of the eclipse. I like my vision just the way it is, thank u (sic) very much." »

Whole Lotta Sole: Brendan Fraser To Star In Zany Heist Movie

17 May 2012 9:39 AM, PDT | Boomtron | See recent Boomtron news »

Brendan Fraser Stars In Oddball Irish Stick-Up Flick.

It’s hard to get a bead on Brendan Fraser.  In a way, it always has been.  At the outset of his career, he certainly seemed to be part of the latter-day Tiger Beat crowd, lumped into the Sean Astin strata of notoriety.

The only flick of his that I really remember taking a liking to was Blast from the Past, with Fraser, Alicia Silverstone, and Christopher Walken.  In that flick, Brendan plays a guy in his late teens/early twenties, who was raised in a bomb shelter by his doomsday prepper dad (Walken).   The role fit Fraser more or less like a glove, allowing him to showcase whatever that wholesome thing is that people love so much.

Almost from the very beginning of his career, Fraser has never been out of work for long.  Roles in larger films have afforded him »

You Con Do It: A Veteran’s Guide to Conventioning

18 April 2012 11:53 PM, PDT | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

Conventions: the gathering place of all things nerdy and fantasy-based. Whether it’s for comics, video games, horror movies, or just movies in general (we tend to call those film festivals, though), conventions truly do have a similar make with similar fan bases to go along with them. And I say this as someone who’s been around the block a time or two. If it’s a Chicago-area affair, I’ve probably been to it at least once.

It was this past Saturday that I made my first trip to the Chicago Comics & Entertainment Expo (or C2E2), and laid eyes upon one of the busiest and most diversified conventions I’ve ever been to. I, of course, had fun and will be back next year in a heartbeat, but I left the show floor a changed man, with a realization that shook me to my core: there are »

DVD Blu-Ray, April 10: 'The Iron Lady,' 'Into the Abyss,' 'The Darkest Hour'

We've got an exclusive look at Meryl Streep's Oscar-winning role in "The Iron Lady." Plus, a full breakdown on all the home entertainment releases for the week -- whether you're DVD or Blu-ray, streaming or rental. Moviefone's Pick of the Week "Into the Abyss" What's It About? Werner Herzog turns his documentary lens onto Conroe, Texas, examining a triple homicide case and the tragic fallout that affected everyone involved. See It Because: "Abyss" doesn't try to change any legislation regarding the death penalty; Herzog -- who is against capital punishment -- simply tries to understand the issue from all perspectives. What follows is a tragic, but ultimately thought-provoking film. New on DVD & Blu-ray "The Iron Lady" What's It About? The Margaret Thatcher biopic may have been met with divisive reviews, but you should find out for yourself if the movie truly deserved to end Meryl's unlucky losing streak at the Oscars. »

Posterized Propaganda April 2012: Where Art and Commerce Meet

2 April 2012 8:06 AM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

“Don’t Judge a Book by Its Cover” is a proverb whose simple existence proves the fact impressionable souls will do so without fail. This monthly column focuses on the film industry’s willingness to capitalize on this truth, releasing one-sheets to serve as not representations of what audiences are to expect, but as propaganda to fill seats. Oftentimes they fail miserably.

There’s a good mix of work coming out in April and the posters do well to mirror such. I’m not quite sure how Rodrigo Cortés‘ could have his first film Buried possess one of the best poster series of 2010 and then return to big screens with the lackluster Vodka Creative sheet for Atm, but not everything can be perfect.

I can’t complain too much, however, since the month does bring some quality pieces of marketing material. And while Jack Black‘s creepy pedo-stash and Cardinal »

EW Extras: Pauly Shore talks the 20th anniversary of 'Encino Man,' bud-dy!

This year marks the 20th anniversary of Encino Man, that little film in which two high school students, social climber Dave (Sean Astin) and outcast Stoney (Pauly Shore), find a frozen caveman (Brendan Fraser) buried in Dave’s yard, thaw him out, and enroll him in high school. Knowing that the DVD’s only special features are the original trailer and a three-and-a-half-minute production featurette — the highlight of which is watching a movie producer use a gigantic cell phone on set — EW decided to celebrate by creating its own set of extras with help from Shore.

Teenage Alien Ninja Turtles and the Over-Emphasis on Origins

21 March 2012 12:28 PM, PDT | newsinfilm.com | See recent newsinfilm news »

“Teenage Alien Ninja Turtles? That’s ridiculous!”

That’s the un-ironic outcry coming from members of Generation Y this week after Michael Bay inadvertently angered a horde of angry Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle purists. Bay, who recently signed to direct Transformers 4 (as a “reboot”), is also producing a live-action movie reboot of the fighting foursome. Jonathan Liebesman (Battle: Los Angeles, Wrath of the Titans) will direct. The new Tmnt movie was already a touchy subject for fans, but the backlash boiled over after Bay spoke during a Nickelodeon presentation this weekend (video below via /Film):

“When we are done with this movie, kids are going to believe, one day, that these turtles actually do exist. These turtles are from an alien race and they are going to be tough, edgy, funny and completely lovable.”

Fans were quick to point out that Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Raphael originally mutated »

He might have been part of one of the largest movie franchises of all time but Sean Astin says that in the world of acting, he still feels like a bit of a Lone Ranger. That, he says, is why when the chance came for him to join the NCIS family for a guest stint, he jumped at the opportunity.
