Julia Stiles Will Join Matt Damon in the New Bourne Movie, Bringing Order to the Universe

19 June 2015 1:47 PM, PDT | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

Julia Stiles has the lucky distinction of starring in each Bourne movie with Matt Damon, so it's only fitting that she returns for the fifth film in the franchise. (Sorry, Jeremy Renner.) In the first major casting announcement since Damon, Deadline reports that Stiles will be reprising her role as Nicky Parsons in the unnamed sequel. (There are unconfirmed reports that Ex Machina star Alicia Vikander might join the cast, too.) Now if we just get Joan Allen to return, the Bourne universe will be complete, and we can get to watching Matt Damon kill people with ballpoint pens and other office supplies. »

Julia Stiles Enlisted For Next Bourne Movie; Viggo Mortensen Offered Villainous Role

19 June 2015 1:20 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Update: Variety reports that Viggo Mortensen, known for the Lord of the Rings trilogy, has been offered the villainous part of the assassin tracking Bourne, but he hasn’t accepted yet.

Original: The currently untitled Bourne 5 was already going to be a series reunion of sorts, with star Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass both returning after having been absent for 2012’s The Bourne Legacy, and now another familiar face has been confirmed. Julia Stiles, who played Nicky Parsons in the first three Bourne movies, has just signed on to reprise her role in Universal’s “Untitled Next Bourne Chapter.”

Parsons, a covert agent, became a close ally of Jason Bourne’s (Damon) over the course of the franchise. Her return begs the question of whether Joan Allen, who also had a pivotal role in The Bourne IdentityThe Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum, will be re-enlisted for what seems like a franchise pivot. »

Stiles Set, Mortensen Tipped For "Bourne 5"

19 June 2015 12:11 PM, PDT | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

The fifth "Bourne" film is casting up with Julia Stiles confirmed to be returning for the next chapter in the franchise reports Deadline.

Stiles, who will reprise her role as covert agent Nicky Parsons, marks the second confirmed casting for the film following the announced return of Matt Damon in the role of Jason Bourne and filmmaker Paul Greengrass behind the camera.

Stiles appeared in the first three films and became something of an ally to Bourne. No word as yet if one of the other key players in the franchise, Joan Allen, will be returning as well.

On the less confirmed side, The Wrap's Jeff Sneider reports that actor Viggo Mortensen is being eyed for the role of the villain in the piece. At the same time, "Ex Machina" star Alicia Vikander was reportedly up for a major role as of a few weeks ago.

Julia Stiles Joins Matt Damon for New 'Bourne' Movie in 2016

19 June 2015 9:30 AM, PDT | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

Yes! Cue another round of Moby's "Extreme Ways" 'cause Jason Bourne is back -- and he's bringing an old friend with him. According to Deadline, Matt Damon is not only back as Bourne for his fourth movie (the third with director Paul Greengrass) but Julia Stiles is confirmed to return as Nicky Parsons. They are the only official cast members so far, although Deadline said Alicia Vikander was being sought for a major role and Variety said Viggo Mortensen may or may not play an assassin. Deadline also said -- and we agree -- that they hoped Joan Allen would return as Pam Landy.

The first movie, "The Bourne Identity" came out in 2002, followed by more Damon dominance in 2004's "The Bourne Supremacy." Damon returned again for "The Bourne Ultimatum" in 2007, but then the focus shifted to Jeremy Renner's Aaron Cross in "The Bourne Legacy." That one was »

Leigh Whannell interview: Insidious, Saw, Star Wars

4 June 2015 12:19 PM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

The co-creator of Saw and Insidious chats to us about homages, mistakes, and the Luke/Leia/Vader relationship...

James Wan's longtime collaborator Leigh Whannell was the co-creator and co-writer of the Saw and Insidious series. For the third chapter of Insidious, Whannell has personally picked up the director's megaphone for the very first time.

We met up last week to speak about his newly-forged processes as a writer-director, his ambitions, the lessons he learned from this film, and lots more besides, from Poltergeist to The Shining and, at three separate talking points, the Star Wars saga.

I think would-be filmmakers and students of the medium will find some of his answers particularly intriguing, but be warned, there are spoilers for The Others, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

Going back to the beginning, the first Insidious was regularly compared to Poltergeist. Did it start out as a Poltergeist homage, »

Oscar-Nominated Film Series: Phenomenal Allen as Too-Good-to-Be-True U.S. V.P. Candidate in Highly Watchable But Ultimately Coy Political Thriller

26 May 2015 5:31 PM, PDT | Alt Film Guide | See recent Alt Film Guide news »

'The Contender' movie hero: Joan Allen as the virtuous Sen. Laine Hanson. 'The Contender' movie: Exceptional Joan Allen in intriguing but ultimately wimpy political drama "Principles only mean anything when we stick by them when they're inconvenient," says Senator Laine Hanson, played by Joan Allen in Rod Lurie's The Contender. Senator Hanson should know. In Lurie's political drama, the poor Democratic senator is grilled by a Republican inquisitor with a bad hairdo (Gary Oldman) who wants to prevent at all costs her being confirmed as the next Vice President of the United States. Even if that means destroying Hanson's political career by making public the senator's alleged participation in an orgy during her college days.* Now, why such hatred? Well, the Republican watchdog is certain that the U.S. president (Jeff Bridges) has chosen Sen. Hanson because of her gender instead of her qualifications for the job. Adding insult to injury, »

Ex Machina Star In Talks For The Female Lead In Bourne 5

24 May 2015 4:11 PM, PDT | | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Part of the legacy of the Bourne franchise has been the pairing of the lead hero - be it Matt Damon or Jeremy Renner - with a capable and active female lead who helps the hero on his mission for the truth. As a result, the series has cast many great actresses over the years, including Franka Potente, Julia Stoles, Joan Allen. and Rachel Weisz, and if new reports are accurate, we may soon see it add yet another great name: Ex Machina's Alicia Vikander. Deadline has gotten word that the Swedish actress is now in talks to join the cast of the untitled Bourne 5 - which is set to see the return of both Matt Damon as Jason Bourne and Paul Greengrass in the director's chair. Given that nothing is known about the plot of the movie thus far, no information is available about the role she might play, »

ABC Adds ‘Muppets’ & Three New Dramas for Fall; Tgit Stays Put

12 May 2015 9:01 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

ABC opted for stability in the fall, launching just five new series with no major shakeups to its nightly strategies. The network, which had momentum this past season with improved ratings, is clearly hoping to maintain its uptick, simply swapping dramas for dramas and comedies for comedies.

ABC is poised to win the May sweep in adults 18-49 and will finish as the only Big Four broadcast network up in the demo vs. last season. For the season, ABC will finish a competitive third in 18-49 and is No. 1 with all sports excluded from averages.

Monday nights will stay put in the fall with “Dancing With the Stars,” followed by “Castle,” which just set both Stana Katic and Nathan Fillion, “our two beloved heroines and heroes,” said ABC Entertainment Group president Paul Lee, for its eighth season, following lengthy contract negotiations. After “DWTS” hands out the mirror ball, “The Bachelor” will come in, »

Schedule Spitball: Predicting the Networks’ Fall Lineups

8 May 2015 4:14 PM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

It has never been harder to predict the network schedules, as the number of series (including many shorter-flight ones) has increased exponentially in recent years and networks seem more willing to stick with lower-rated shows for a variety of reasons. So while it’s admittedly a futile exercise, it doesn’t keep us from trying to spitball once again. So, here’s a look at one way things could play out:

After strengthening the Thursday 10 p.m. hour last fall with “How to Get Away With Murder,” a priority for ABC this fall is to bolster the final hour of primetime on other nights.  “Quantico” and “Wicked City,” both of which should have some male appeal, would be good fits to close Tuesday and Wednesday. And though “Castle” is heading into the homestretch of its run, it’s more important that ABC establish stronger Tuesday and Wednesday 10 p.m. »

Shonda Rhimes' 'The Catch,' Biblical 'Of Kings an Prophets' lead ABC orders

And finally ABC is in the game!  The only network not to pick up a new series (and still the only network not to formally renew a single old series) jumped into the pre-upfronts excitement in a major way on Thursday afternoon, picking up six new dramas, several of which sound rather ambitious. Before going into depth, the basics: On Thursday (May 7) afternoon, ABC ordered the Biblical epic "Of Kings and Prophets" and the Shonda Rhimes-produced "The Catch," as well as "Wicked City" (formerly "L.A. Crime"), "The Family" (formerly Untitled Jenna Bans), "Quantico" and the Untitled Pate & Fishburne Project (formerly "Boom"). ABC no doubt has plenty more new series pickups to do ahead of the network's Tuesday, May 12 upfront presentation. Let's get to the details, because some of these new shows sound pretty interesting actually... *** "Of Kings and Prophets" comes from creators Adam Cooper & Bill Collage and it is »
