When it was all said and done, Josh Hasty emerged from Murderworld with over 500 hours of footage documenting the making of Rob Zombie's new movie, 31. Titled In Hell Everybody Loves Popcorn: The Making of 31, Hasty's immersive documentary is now available to view as both a two-hour bonus feature on Lionsgate's Blu-ray / DVD release of 31 and as a four-hour version on VOD, and we caught up with the filmmaker for our latest Q&A feature to discuss what it was like being a fly on the wall with a camera to capture Zombie's new cinematic creation.

Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions for us, Josh. How did you initially get involved with Rob Zombie’s 31?

Josh Hasty: My pleasure. I originally met Rob during production of The Lords of Salem. It was the first time I'd seen him directing in person and I was really »

On the same night of his split, Dutch sets his sights on the young Katharine (Ginger Lynn, New Wave Hookers), a new girl in town who sells cigarettes at the club. As someone who grew up haunting video stores throughout the late 80s and well into the 90s, director Rick Sloane was something of an icon. You see I was one of those teenagers who loved to rent any and all T&A comedies I could lay my hands on, and Sloane was the man behind Vice Academy and its six, yes six(!) sequels. Why Vice Academy? Well my other love at the time was horror movies, and in particular those featuring scream queens such as Linnea Quigley, Michelle Bauer, Brinke Stevens and Monique Gabrielle… and Vice Academy – and its immediate sequel – starred the one and only Ms. Quigley – it was, at least for me at the time, kismet: Linnea Quigley and T&A comedy? Written and directed by Rob Zombie

Starring Sheri Moon ZombieElizabeth Daily, Meg Foster, Richard Brake, Torsten Voges, Lew Temple, Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs, Jeff Daniel Phillips, David Ury, Pancho Moler and Malcolm McDowell

Synopsis:

Five carnival workers are kidnapped and held hostage in an abandoned, Hell-like compound where they are forced to participate in a violent game, the goal of which is to survive twelve hours against a gang of sadistic clowns.

Rob Zombie has certainly had a fairly up and down track record when it comes to his movies, but you can’t argue that he doesn’t have a style. The second a movie starts, you know it’s directed by Zombie. 31 is absolutely no different, but is it at the higher end of The Devil’s Rejects, or the lower spectrum of Halloween II?

In typical Zombie fashion, 31 sees a group of carnies in the 1970s captured by »

Rob Zombie's 31 Trailer Is Finally Here

14 June 2016 10:13 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Last week, Saban Films debuted a new poster for director Rob Zombie's upcoming horror-thriller 31, which will hit theaters just before Halloween. Today, the studio has unveiled the first full trailer for this highly-anticipated movie, which comes nearly two years after the first trailer was released. Now that the project has distribution and a release date in place, we can surely expect to see much more from 31 in the months ahead.

From the visionary mind of the man who brought us House of 1000 Corpses, The Devil's Rejects and Halloween comes the horrific story of five carnival workers who are kidnapped the night before Halloween and held hostage in a large compound. At the mercy of their captors, they are forced to play a twisted game or life or death called 31. For the next 12 hours they must fight for their lives against an endless parade of homicidal maniacs.

31 stars Rob Zombie's wife Sheri Moon Zombie, along with Richard Brake, Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs, Jeffrey Daniel Phillips, Lew Temple, Meg Foster and Malcolm McDowell. The supporting cast includes Elizabeth Daily, Daniel Roebuck, Tracey Walter, Ginger Lynn-Allen, Judy Geeson, Torsten Vorges, Jane Carr and Jeffrey Daniel Phillips. Richard Brake's character Doom-head has been called the next great horror villain by the director, but we'll have to wait and see how audiences respond to this character.

Rob Zombie is directing from his own screenplay and producing with Andy Gould, Matthew Perniciaro, Michael Sherman, Eddie Vaisman and Mike Elliott. Saban Films has set an October 21 release date for 31, putting this movie in a highly-competitive weekend where six other movies are currently slated to open in wide release. Also opening on October 21 is Paramount's Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, Lionsgate's horror-comedy Boo! A Madea Halloween, 20th Century Fox's comedy Keeping Up With the Joneses, Focus Features' A Monster Calls, Universal's Ouija: Origin of Evil and PureFlix's drama I'm Not Ashamed.

31 was originally slapped with an Nc-17 rating by the MPAA back in December 2015, and even after Rob Zombie submitted a re-edited cut, the MPAA still gave the film an Nc-17 rating. After another round of edits, the MPAA finally gave the movie an R rating this past January, for "strong bloody horror violence, pervasive language, sexual content and drug use." It's possible that Rob Zombie will release a gore drenched director's cut sometime in the future. Until then, check out the new trailer for Rob Zombie's 31. »

Before Rob Zombie became an acclaimed horror director with such cult hits as House Of 1000 Corpses, The Devil's Rejects and The Lords of Salem, he was an acclaimed rock musician who directed his own music videos. Today, he returns to that realm with a new music video/short film called Everybody's (bleeping) in a U.F.O. And it's pretty insane!

This creepy sci-fi extravaganza stars a host of special guests and musicians including Rob Zombie himself, who takes the lead. '31' Photos: Welcome to Rob Zombie's New Nightmare

14 March 2016 7:59 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Rob Zombie took the Sundance Film Festival by storm back in January when he debuted his new thriller 31. The project had already landed distribution through Alchemy last summer, but they have not issued a release date as of yet. While we wait for the first trailer, Bloody-Disgusting has gotten a hold of new photos, which feature Richard Brake's Doom-Head in full clown makeup. We got our first look at Doom-Head back in September, but the character wasn't showing such a thirst for blood at the time.

Rob Zombie believes Doom-Head will be the next iconic horror villain. Richard Brake plays Doom-Head as a gruesome individual who likes to dismember his victims. Rob Zombie always comes up with unique and clever way of creating memorable characters, a tradition that will certainly continue with 31.

31 tells the story of five carnies in 1976 kidnapped on the morning of Halloween. »
