Ben Affleck: 'Matt, Are You Straight?'

19 July 2001 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Just like in his latest hit Pearl Harbor, Ben Affleck would beat up his best friend if he slept with his girlfriend in real life. In Michael Bay's WW II-drama, Ben and Josh Hartnett have a confrontation over Hartnett's relationship with Kate Beckinsale. "Like in the movie I would give my best friend a good slapping. But seriously, I really wouldn't know what to do. I'm glad to say that such an experience has never happened to me yet. It is tough when your best friend sleeps with your lady. My best friend Matt Damon wouldn't do such a thing. But the first thing I'd ask him if he did would be, 'Wow, Matt! Are you straight?'" »

The man who allegedly stalked Nicole Kidman is planning to sue the actress. Matthew E. Hooker claims Kidman has slandered him, and that this has led to his loss of credibility. Hooker is currently under a restraining order to stay away from Nicole for at least three years, after she claimed he had been stalking and harassing her. He says, "She slandered me and libelled me. I've lost jobs and lost my credibility in Hollywood. "I have no choice but to sue. Then she'll have to tell the truth when she's on the witness stand." Kidman's spokeswoman says she has not heard about Hooker's latest comments. Hooker has also been accused of stalking model Claudia Schiffer, and claims magician David Copperfield and actor Ben Affleck have stalked him. »

11 June 2001 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Hollywood hunk Ben Affleck used a body double for a scene in Pearl Harbor - because he was too shy to show his bare bottom on screen. The bashful star refused to strip for the scene in which nurse Evelyn, played by Kate Beckinsale, has to give him an injection in his bottom. Rob McCabe, 30, stood in for Ben and another double, Breezy Dawn, provided the hand for the jab. But Ben left at least one fan disappointed by his decision not to bare. Paltrow Pulled Out Of Pearl Harbor Over Money

23 May 2001 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Gwyneth Paltrow turned down the chance to play her ex-boyfriend Ben Affleck's love interest again because there wasn't enough money involved. The ex-lovers hit the headlines when they teamed up as a screen couple in Bounce, but Paltrow turned down the opportunity to star opposite Affleck in Pearl Harbor because the role required her to take a huge paycut. Affleck slashed his salary to just $250,000 for the film and Paltrow was replaced by British actress Kate Beckinsale. Affleck says, "Gwyneth had another thing she wanted to do. I mean you flirt with different choices as film makers and you try to figure it out. This film also required a level of commitment. It's a year of your life, there's no money. It's not an easy sell." But Affleck was pleased with Paltrow's replacement. He says, "We ended up with the best choice possible - Kate is an amazing woman and I totally fell in love with her and I could not possibly say enough good about her." »

Ben Affleck's Tough Movie Preparation

22 May 2001 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Hollywood heart-throb Ben Affleck had a gruelling preparation schedule for his new movie Pearl Harbor - which consisted mainly of a painfully-strict diet. The actor was only allowed to consume a protein shake, six egg whites, a small bowl of oatmeal and a piece of fruit for breakfast. His lunchtime allowance consisted of a chicken breast, steamed rice and vegetables or salad for lunch, while dinner came in the form of fish with salad and/or vegetables - and no alcohol at all. The strict diet, along with a stringent exercise regime, was compiled by his trainer, Jorgen De May in preparation for the $130 million second world war epic. Affleck's workout entailed a rigorous training regimen of eight weeks of daily workouts, including speed-walking on a steep treadmill and an upper body routine of free weights and machines. »

Ben Affleck: Budget Actor

11 May 2001 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Ben Affleck is a cheap option for any film producers running low on cash. Ben, who received $12.5 million for Bounce, has no qualms about lowering his asking price if the script is good enough. During pre-production talks on World War II drama Pearl Harbor, Ben realised there wasn't enough money to go round, so he volunteered to sacrifice his salary. He says, "The top people involved had to cut their salaries to get the picture made because of the huge budget needed to pull off a story like this. I'd be a fool not to take a shot at this kind of movie because if it works, it gives me the freedom to appear in smaller films that otherwise wouldn't get made." The brooding actor's primary goal is to make good films, regardless of whether he if offered a large or small amount of cash. "I don't care whether I'm making $20 million or $5 million a movie, as long as I have the chance to be a player and make my own choices." »

The film's director Phil Alden Robinson also revealed his intentions to start with a clean slate. He says, "Alec Baldwin and Harrison Ford were great in the role, and if I allowed myself to think a whole lot about that, we'd be in trouble. So I have to pretend this is the first Jack Ryan movie. We have to look at it afresh and use it as an opportunity to revitalise the franchise and put some fresh blood in it."
