Working Title looking to shoot Bridget Jones 3 this year

28 June 2015 1:50 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

According to The Daily Mail, Working Title Films is hoping to shoot the third movie in the Bridget Jones series this year, with Renee Zellweger and Colin Firth said to be in talks to reprise their roles from the first two movies.

“We are keen to try to make it later this year, but there’s still nothing definite yet,” states Eric Fellner of Working Title. “If the script and all our deals with the actors fall into place, then this one will be up and running.”

The third movie, entitled Bridget Jones’s Baby, has been written by author Helen Fielding, and Sharon Maguire – who helmed the 2001 original – is said to be back in the director’s chair. However, Hugh Grant has already opted against a return as Daniel Cleaver, with his character said to be absent from the script.

"If the script and all our deals with the actors fall into place, then this one will be up and running."

Sharon Maguire, who directed the previous two Bridget Jones movies, is said to be on board for the new feature.

She and Fellner are also thought to have met with original stars Renee Zellweger and Colin Firth to discuss reprising their roles.

Read our picks below, share yours in the comments, and subscribe to the Vulture 2015 Playlist for a comprehensive guide to the year's best new tunes.Bully, “Six” When I first heard Bully last October, I compared them to Renée Zellweger's character from Empire Records singing on top of the store’s awning. That is still a super accurate comparison, but after listening to their terrific new album, Feels Like, which came out today, I think Hole meets Nirvana is also a fine description. Regardless, they demand your attention. — Jesse David Fox (@JesseDavidFox) Desaparecidos, “Von Maur Massacre” At first, because I don’t tend to listen to lyrics, I picked this track off Conor Oberst’s »

The American Federation of Musicians of the United States and Canada has sued Paramount Pictures for allegedly breaching its master contract by recording the score to Renee Zellweger’s upcoming film “Same Kind of Different as Me” in Slovakia.

The suit, filed Monday in Los Angeles federal court, asserts that the studio has violated provisions of its collective bargaining agreement with musicians that require Paramount films produced in the U.S. or Canada to be scored in the U.S. or Canada.

Paramount had no immediate response to a request for comment.

It’s the second such suit filed by Afm within the past two months. The union filed suit on April 27 against Warner Bros., MGM and Paramount for alleged violations of the union’s master contract for recording film scores outside the U.S. and Canada for “Interstellar,” which was produced by Warner Bros. and Paramount; Warner’s “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island »

Cameron Crowe has made a career telling stories of flawed men who are saved thanks to young, quasi-magical women. His best films have shown the cracks in these maniacal pixies. Consider the crippling self-doubt of Penny Lane in Almost Famous, or the world-weariness of Renee Zellweger’s Dorothy Boyd in Jerry Maguire. Every Best Picture Oscar Winner, Ranked From Worst to Best

6 May 2015 6:00 AM, PDT | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

This week marks the 10th anniversary of the release of "Crash" (on May 6, 2005), an all-star movie whose controversy came not from its provocative treatment of racial issues but from its Best Picture Oscar victory a few months later, against what many critics felt was a much more deserving movie, "Brokeback Mountain."

The "Crash" vs. "Brokeback" battle is one of those lingering disputes that makes the Academy Awards so fascinating, year after year. Moviegoers and critics who revisit older movies are constantly judging the Academy's judgment. Even decades of hindsight may not always be enough to tell whether the Oscar voters of a particular year got it right or wrong. Whether it's "Birdman" vs. "Boyhood," "The King's Speech" vs. "The Social Network," "Saving Private Ryan" vs. "Shakespeare in Love" or even "An American in Paris" vs. "A Streetcar Named Desire," we're still confirming the Academy's taste or dismissing it as hopelessly off-base years later. »

The Callow Way – Do You Want To Own A Piece Of Your Favourite Star?

3 May 2015 4:20 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

This week Neil Calloway looks at the possibility of owning shares in Hollywood stars…

Have you heard of Fantex? Unless you’re a fan of American Football or the financial markets, or both, the chances are you haven’t.

That may be about to change, however. Fantex was set up about a year ago, enabling people to buy shares in professional athletes in the Us. The player gets a one time lump sum from the company, and people then buy shares in that star in return for a chunk of their future earnings. The shares then increase and decrease in relation to how well the athlete is doing at the time.

Recently, there have been reports that Fantex are moving into Hollywood, and soon you may be able to buy stock in your favourite movie stars. Sounds good, right? If they do a deal with Daniel Craig I’d certainly buy a Bond bond. »

Germany’s Syrreal Jumps Into Genre Game With Sci-Fi ‘Sum1′

10 April 2015 10:00 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Producer Christian Alvart is banking on British thesp Iwan Rheon to help him launch a market for horror, sci-fi and action pics made in Germany.

Though such films have had a traditionally tough time in Teuton, Rheon, who plays the psychopathic Ramsay Bolton on “Game of Thrones,” is a star among genre auds, and therefore, Alvart feels, an ideal choice for Christian Pasquariello’s debut feature “Sum1,” about a young soldier stationed in a desolate forest while the remnants of humanity hide underground from alien invaders.

“I had him on my radar as someone to really go after whenever possible, and this was the first opportunity,” says Alvart, who is producing the apocalyptic thriller via his Berlin-based Syrreal Entertainment. He adds that he’s been a fan of the Welsh actor since seeing him in the 2009 British sci-fi series “Misfits.”
