19 October 2017 3:04 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Last summer it was announced that Legendary had won a highly competitive bidding war for the live-action movie rights to Pokemon, with the studio subsequently tapping Rob Letterman (Goosebumps) to direct a Detective Pikachu film.

Since then, we’ve heard little else about the project, however we now have a casting rumour from That Hashtag Show, which suggests that Legendary and Letterman are looking to cast some A-list talent in the movie.

Now, take this with a pinch of salt, but according to the site Hugh Jackman (Logan), Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool), Mark Wahlberg (Transformers: The Last Knight) and Dwayne Johnson (Baywatch) are all high on the shortlist to lend their voice to the titular Pikachu, although none of them have apparently taken any meetings with regards to the role.

Detective Pikachu is slated to begin production in January, with Letterman directing from a script by Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy »

Pokemon Movie Wants a Big Action Star as Detective Pikachu?

17 October 2017 3:05 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Don't get too excited just yet Pokemon fans, but it looks like Legendary Pictures has their eyes on some pretty big names to play the titular character in the upcoming Detective Pikachu movie. This is going to be the first ever live-action Pokemon movie and that's a big deal. So why not go for a big star? And who's bigger than The Rock? Probably nobody and, according to a new rumor, he's one of several A-list actors being considered to voice Pikachu in the movie.

We need to caution that before we even list the rest of these names, this should merely be regarded as rumor for right now. There's no evidence that any of these actors have had any meetings with the studio about Detective Pikachu, but they are said to be on the studio's "wish list" for the movie. That said, in addition to Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, »

The Rock, Ryan Reynolds And Hugh Jackman Among Those Eyed For Detective Pikachu

17 October 2017 3:04 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

It’s been a whirlwind 24 hours for Pokémon‘s greatest mascot.

Following up on Omega Underground‘s report that Legendary’s live-action Detective Pikachu movie has been earmarked for a production start in London sometime next year, That Hashtag Show brings word of the studio’s alleged shortlist. And let’s just say Legendary are aiming for the stars when it comes to casting that chubby, yet oddly lovable rodent.

Based on The Pokémon Company’s Great Detective Pikachu video game, we’re now learning that the Detective Pikachu movie has whittled down its wishlist to four big-name actors: Hugh Jackman (Logan), Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool), Mark Wahlberg (Transformers) and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle). Ths’ report goes on to stress that none of those individuals have actually met about the role as yet, but Legendary is seemingly keen to cast a voice actor before filming begins »

Comic Books Actually Exist! And Other Things I’ve Found Out

12 October 2017 1:18 AM, PDT | Age of the Nerd | See recent Age of the Nerd news »

Author Note: This original editorial was written in 2011, and several of the references are clearly dated, and more than that, in the past six years, my perspective has altered, changed, been tweaked,…, been re-examined (Shrugs) something to that effect- needless to say that this is the article written by a then-still young(er), still unknowing film school undergrad who had a more wide-eyed and bushy-tailed view of the subculture than I do now. My perspective as an outsider was more curious and intriguing at the time, and I think it’s important to have those kinds of initial thoughts documented, as much if not moreso than one’s current more-refined thoughts.  While I will update portions of this article at the bottom of the page, I ask that you keep in mind, the perspective in which it was written, and forgive what are obvious dated references to the time period. »

‘Boogie Nights’ Turns 20! Looking Back on Mark Wahlberg and the Ensemble Cast’s Breakthrough Performances

10 October 2017 7:53 AM, PDT | Entertainment Tonight | See recent Entertainment Tonight news »

Dirk Diggler has great manners.

Every character in Boogie Nights has small details like this that encapsulate everything about them. Some of these qualities, such as Diggler's obsessive politeness whenever he's pulled away from a conversation, are written on the page. Others appear to be specific choices made by actors, like the way Philip Seymour Hoffman's Scotty J. nervously holds his arm during Jack and Dirk's confrontation.

As the film turns 20, Et is reexamining the breakthrough performances in Boogie Nights and Paul Thomas Anderson's showcase of incredible character actors.

Set in the late '70s, Boogie Nights chronicles 17-year-old busboy Eddie Adams’ (Mark Wahlberg) journey as he’s taken under the wing of pornography auteur Jack Horner (Burt Reynolds) and into a world where he could finally become the bright shining star he always felt destined to be. 61st BFI London Film Festival Review – Gemini (2017)

10 October 2017 2:40 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Gemini, 2017.

Directed by Aaron Katz.

Starring Lola Kirke, Zoë Kravitz, Greta Lee, Michelle Forbes, Nelson Franklin, Reeve Carney, Jessica Parker Kennedy, James Ransone, Ricki Lake, and John Cho.

Synopsis:

A heinous crime tests the complex relationship between a tenacious personal assistant and her Hollywood starlet boss. As the assistant unravels the mystery, she must confront her own understanding of friendship, truth, and celebrity.

Films set in La tend to be about Hollywood, actors, showbiz, etc. Aaron Katz’s slow-burn mystery Gemini is no exception, however, whilst it is set in the city of the rich and famous, it portrays a completely different side of the industry to one we commonly see on-screen, as seen through the eyes of young Ohio-born Pa Jill (Lola Kirke).

Jill is the assistant to Heather (Zoe Kravitz), a big-name actress hounded by paps and fans alike, who maintains a friendship as well as a professional relationship with her Pa. »

While Harvey Weinstein’s future is still unclear following recent revelations of sexual misconduct, one thing is clear: the Weinstein Co.’s film division is currently at a very low level of activity.
