There is a ‘Hard Target 2’ and it looks amazing

16 June 2016 12:41 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Hard Target 2 trailer: John Woo produces a sequel to his hard-hitting Jcvd action film from 1993.

The Hard Target 2 trailer is brief, but awesome in every way.

Hard Target 2 trailer

Remember John Woo‘s brilliant Hard Target starring Jean Claude Van Damme from the mid-1990s? Well, apparently there is a direct-to-dvd sequel starring Scott Adkins and Rhona Mitra, and it looks awesome.

The original was full of such gems as Jcvd high-kicking rich folk, the wonderful Lance Hendrickson as chief bad-guy and the muscles from Brussels quite literally punching a snake the f**k out. Remember this?

Hard Target 2 will be heading to DVD and Blu-ray in the United States from September.

Scott Adkins recently told Impact: “I guess I am continuing to walk the path previously walked by Jcvd (laughing) It’s just a coincidence I promise you, but yes, I do keep getting involved with projects that are sequels to his earlier work or I am co-starring with him… the director really knows how to shoot action and get the best look and epic production value for his movies… there are moments that pay homage to the original and we are doing everything we can to deliver a worthy sequel… and a hell of an action film in its own right.”

The film also stars Robert Knepper (Prison Break), Ann Truong (Sonnigsburg) and Temuera Morrison (Green Lantern), and will continue “the human hunt” in the jungles between Burma and Thailand.

Hard Target 2 trailer

Some official blurb, followed by the Hard Target 2 trailer…

Forced into a deadly cat-and-mouse game, a disgraced mixed martial arts fighter is hunted through the jungles of Southeast Asia in Hard Target 2, wrapped production in Thailand. A no-holds-barred battle for survival through treacherous terrain inspired by John Woo’s hard-driving 1993 action-thriller, Hard Target 2 Unrated Edition premieres exclusively on Blu-ray™, DVD and Digital HD Fall 2016 from Universal 1440 Entertainment, the original content production arm of Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.

Watch a brief Hard Target 2 trailer below. We are all kinds of excited.

Scott Adkins (listen to my interview with him) and Rhona Mitra star in this sequel to John Woo's 1993 action classic starring Jean-Claude Van Damme.

Taking the reigns on the sequel is director Roel Reiné (Admiral, Death Race 2) and, believe it or not, one of the writers is George Huang who wrote Swimming with Sharks.

Liam Hemsworth Recalls One of Jennifer Lawrence's Funniest Moments on the Hunger Games Set

Leave it to none other than Jennifer Lawrence and Jean-Claude van Damme to really know how to rattle someone's nerves right before filming a serious scene. Wait, what?! Liam Hemsworth was on the Graham Norton Show earlier this week, alongside Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and his Independence Day: Resurgence co-star Jeff Goldblum, and the hunky actor spilled some tea about how different it is to work with the aforementioned actors. Miley Cyrus' beau recalled a particular scene where he and van Damme were filming an action scene that went, well, awry. "He gave me a full van Damme kick to the chest and I fell to my knees," he explained before sharing that he didn't want to reveal just »

13 Actors Fired from Blockbuster Movie Roles

4 June 2016 2:16 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

If hindsight is 20/20, than in the movie business it doesn't exist. What does that mean? Well, when you have a business that is predicated on the simple capitalistic principal of making money, yet, that very principal hinges on Art... Things start to make more sense.

We all have favorite movies. No matter how our tastes might grow or change over the years, we all love certain films more than others. It might be the story, it might be the feelings that a particular film evokes as it relates to our lives, it might be a score that we just can't get out of our heads. Whatever the reason may be, we love things because we love them and that is just the way it is.

Usually, the reason we fall in love with a particular film is the performance by an actor. We bring our own thoughts, values and ideas »

[[tmz:video id="0_jyvf2v7d"]] It's a good thing Jean-Claude Van Damme is flexible -- 'cause he put his entire foot in his mouth when he claimed Ufc fighters don't know how to kick ... so says Chuck Liddell.  Liddell was flexin' out in Bev Hills Thursday when we asked what he thought about Jcvd's criticisms -- when the movie legend told us the leg striking in the Ufc is a "mess" because the fighters don't truly understand how to kick. »

Shane Black talks to us about his forthcoming Predator movie, which he says will be a scary mix of thriller and Close Encounters...

How do you make the alien big game hunter from Predator seem imposing again? That's the key question director and co-writer Shane Black hopes to answer in The Predator. Filming on the sequel is due to begin later this year, with Black co-writing with his old Monster Squad partner Fred Dekker. Following the magnificent 1987 original and the 1990, La-set sequel (which we'd argue was really underrated), the franchise took a bit of a stumble with two disappointing Alien Vs Predator spin-offs and Robert Rodriguez's so-so 2010 reboot, Predators.

What marked out the first film was the way it moved between genres. For almost the first hour, Predator began as a war film before throwing its band of tough mercenaries headlong into slasher-horror territory. By biding its time and shifting tones, »

Nicholas Winding Refn and William Lustig are to produce the remake of Maniac Cop...

The planned remake of Maniac Cop is now pressing ahead, it's being reported.

The project is the result of a multi-studio deal that will see Hollywood’s Vendian Entertainment and France-based Wild Brunch team up with Space Rocket Nation (the company of director Nicolas Winding Refn). While this multi-year alliance of firms will facilitate first-look deals to produce commercials for up and coming talent, feature films are on the menu, the first of which will be this Maniac Cop remake which has been gestating for the past few years.

The film will update the 1988-1993 Maniac Cop horror trilogy directed by William Lustig featuring the signature lantern-jawed visage of the late Robert Z’Dar as the titular killer constabulary Matt Cordell, who escaped from prison to wantonly murder innocent people in uniform. The »

Code Of Honor Review

8 May 2016 9:34 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Back in the 1980s and 1990s, action cinema was largely defined by a certain level of machismo. The typical action heroes were muscle-bound, seemingly invincible and known for their ability to dispatch one-dimensional villains with an endless supply of cheesy one-liners. The work of Arnold Schwarzenegger perhaps best exemplifies this particular style of filmmaking, but other stars like Sylvester Stallone, Jean-Claude Van Damme and Steven Seagal played in that very same sandbox and became international stars as a result.

Today’s most popular action films have embraced a very different approach, wherein the heroes are far more fallible and human and the violence is more grounded and visceral. Think the Bourne films or Daniel Craig’s James Bond. In recent years, the old-school style of action has largely been relegated to direct-to-dvd projects and nostalgia trips like Stallone’s The Expendables franchise. However, the new Seagal thriller, Code of Honor, »
