America Lost And Found: The Bbs Story (Criterion) Perhaps the best DVD box set released this year, this ultimate cinefile stocking stuffer offered up by Criterion, the Rolls-Royce of home video labels, features seven seminal works from the late ‘60s-early ‘70s that were brought to life by cutting edge producers Bert Schneider, Steve Blauner and director/producer Bob Rafelson, the principals of Bbs Productions. In chronological order: Head (1968) star the Monkees, the manufactured (by Rafelson, et al), American answer to the Beatles who, like it or not, did make an impact on popular culture, particularly in this utterly surreal piece of cinematic anarchy (co-written by Jack Nicholson, who has a cameo), which was largely dismissed upon its initial release, but is now regarded as a counterculture classic. Easy Rider (1969) is arguably regarded as the seminal ‘60s picture, about two hippie drug dealers (director Dennis Hopper »

When you make your living playing an actual angel on Supernatural, and once played a character on Nip/Tuck who wanted a smaller penis, it's to be expected that you might be plotting for world domination like Misha Collins.
Of course he doesn't see anything wrong with that:
When it comes to a giant ego, you'd be hard pressed to find one bigger than Kiss frontman Gene Simmons. Remember when he said Adam Lambert should have stayed in the closet? His non-wife Shannon Tweed decided to bring it up again - almost a year later.
I'm guessing it's all about the marketing of a new season of Family Jewels that you're bringing it up now, isn't it?

Gene Simmons, he of the long tongue and 8-inch high boots, wants to be a judge on NBC's "The Marriage Ref" he tells Zap2it.
"I would tell all guys to never get married, and all women to get married and divorced as often as they can," says the front man for Kiss, who has has two children with his companion of 25 years, model/actress Shannon Tweed.
"Every time a woman gets divorced, it's the largest financial windfall she will ever have," rationalizes the star of A&E's reality show, "Gene Simmons Family Jewels."
The only thing wrong with marriage is women are from Mars and men have penis."

It's unrealistic -- if not downright impossible -- to watch everything that premieres on TV. So I've only seen bits and pieces of "Gene Simmons Family Jewels" over the years and didn't have any preconceived opinions of the A&E series -- which premiered in 2006 and celebrates its 100th episode this season as TV's longest-running family reality show (overtaking MTV's "The Osbournes" for that niche honor). What I did see, in watching tomorrow night's fifth-season premiere, is a show meshing the requisite reality elements -- including facing-the-camera "confessionals," underscored here with weirdly "Leave It to Beaver"-type music -- with some genuine emotion. »

Atom Egoyan's new thriller is superfluous in an age of internet sex – despite a strong cast, he can't make soft porn respectable
There are many things worth getting nostalgic about that the internet age has rendered hopelessly naff or just unnecessary. The phrase "lolling about", for example; now impossible to use without sounding like an overexcited teenager.
The demise of the erotic thriller, however, probably isn't worth shedding many tears over. While the genre may have nourished a generation of Channel Five-fuelled adolescents, even the most well-regarded efforts were, on the whole, barely watchable.
It's strange then to see posters for Chloe, a new addition to the field from director Atom Egoyan, plastered all over the underground. The film was also given a surprising level of prominence at last year's London film festival, where I was lucky enough to randomly stumble into a packed screening. Are people really still »
