No Less Than Three Trailers for Pierre Morel’s From Paris with Love

31 December 2009 10:03 AM, PST | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

I’m torn on this one, people. While I’m a huge fan of Pierre Morel’s cinematic output, I’m not exactly what you’d call the biggest John Travolta supporter on the planet. In my humble opinion, the guy’s strictly hit-or-miss, with very little gray area in-between. That being said, the trailer for Morel’s upcoming actioner “From Paris with Love” looks moderately intriguing, though I’m still a little apprehensive about the whole thing. Watching Travolta play a tough guy in 2009’s “The Taking of Pelham 123″ was different, to say the very least, but I don’t feel he really has what it takes to make these roles 100% believable. Maybe this particular action-packed outing will prove me wrong. Maybe Travolta will knock it right out of the proverbial park. Then again, we might have another “Broken Arrow” on our hands. Yikes. John Travolta drops an All-out Assault of F-Bombs in From Paris With Love

30 December 2009 3:01 PM, PST | Twitch | See recent Twitch news »

Apparently, an assload of F-Bombs is not the only thing John Travolta will be firing in the French actioner From Paris with Love from Pierre Morel, the director of the sleeper hit Taken and Banlieue 13. As before in Taken that has Liam Neeson wrecking havoc and mayhem all over Paris, it seems its John's turn to step up to the plate and Jonathan Rhys Meyers is just along for the ride.  This looks like a total blast (pun intended).

A personal aide to the U.S. Ambassador in France, James Reese (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) has an enviable life in Paris and a beautiful French girlfriend, but his real passion is his side job as a low-level operative for the CIA. All James wants is to become a bona fide agent and see some real action. So when he's offered his first senior-level assignment, he can't believe his good luck »

Eva Longoria and Tony Parker shoot spoof Grease video

28 December 2009 3:10 PM, PST | Monsters and Critics | See recent Monsters and Critics news »

Desperate Housewives beauty Eva Longoria and her basketball star husband Tony Parker dressed up as Grease’s Sandy and Danny for an internet video spoofing the classic 70s movie. The celebrity couple donned wigs and 1950s-style costumes to perform the film’s famous Summer Nights song. Eva and Tony looked the part in the roles played by John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John and got their choreography almost spot on. But they played it safe by miming along to the original vocals. Basketball ace Tony posted the footage on his website to promote a competition to meet the celebrity couple at one of his NBA games for the San Antonio Spurs early next year. We've been counting down the biggest headlines of 2009, and we'll be revealing more throughout the month of December. Read on to take a look back at some of the stories that created the most buzz throughout the year. This year, we lost many stars, both old and young. Michael Jackson stole headlines over the Summer due to his passing, but we also spent the last 12 months mourning other public figures. Just two days into the year, John Travolta and Kelly Preston suffered the devastating loss of their son, Jett Travolta, after complications from a seizure. Michael Jackson's highly publicized death almost overshadowed the passing of Farrah Fawcett and Ed McMahon, who died within days of each other at the end of June. Beloved actor Patrick Swayze lost his battle with cancer in September, after a lengthy and courageous fight. Bea Arthur, meanwhile, passed in April at the age of »

Charlie Sheen, You Have A History Of Troubled & Violent Relationships

28 December 2009 6:30 AM, PST | HollywoodLife | See recent HollywoodLife news »

Charlie Sheen, will you ever get it together?  It seems that in your failed relationships, it’s almost always the women who get blamed.  At this point, drinking, violence, and police reports seem like a pattern in your life.

In 1990, Charlie was dating Kelly Preston, and reports surfaced that she was shot.  Charlie told Playboy in 2001, it “was a complete accident. I wasn’t even in the room. She picked up a pair of my pants … A little revolver fell out of my back pocket, hit the bathroom floor and went off. It shot a hole through the toilet and she got hit in the leg with shrapnel.”  But Kelly did give back the 2.5 carat pink diamond engagement ring Charlie gave her, and married John Travolta in 1991. Then, in 1996, Charlie dated adult film actress Brittany Ashland, who accused Charlie of attacking her in his San Fernando Valley Home. She accused »

Grease Is The Word For Longoria Parker

28 December 2009 12:16 AM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Eva Longoria Parker and her husband Tony Parker have channelled Olivia Newton-john and John Travolta for a new Grease contest.

The Desperate Housewives actress and her basketball star husband are inviting fans to recreate scenes from the 1978 musical for a new online competition - and they've made the contest's first entry with their own take on the classic Grease track, Summer Nights.

Longoria Parker donned a blonde wig and a bright yellow dress to play Newton-John's Sandy in the spoof, while her husband showed off his dance moves as Travolta's bad boy Danny Zuko.

In a clip on his official website, the San Antonio Spurs guard explains they chose Grease because "it's Eva's favourite film," before challenging fans to submit their own parodies.

The couple will select their favourite videos and fly the winners out to one of Parker's basketball games in Texas, where they'll meet them.

The deadline for video entries is 31 January. »

'Avatar' wows 'em worldwide

27 December 2009 12:00 PM, PST | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

Avatar” surprised no one by taking the No. 1 spot on the foreign circuit for the second weekend in a row.

But director James Cameron’s mega-budget epic raised eyebrows with its overseas boxoffice staying power, grossing $145 million -- a mere 12% drop from its opening weekend -- from 14,844 screens. It did well in its second week in the U.S. as well.

Triple-digit opening grosses usually decline substantially in the ensuing weekend. A drop of less than 50% is considered positive by the industry. Distributor 20th Century Fox said “Avatar’s” relative miniscule decline “is even more impressive given theatre closures in many markets on Dec. 24 and/or Dec. 25.”

The film’s offshore cumulative total stands at $405 million. Worldwide tally clocks in at $617.3 million.

Not coincidentally, Fox reported yesterday that its 2009 overseas boxoffice take set a new industry record -- an estimated $2.263 billion, the highest of any Hollywood studio ever “with four more days to go. »

Waltz, Fassbender And Knightley Join Cronenberg's The Talking Cure

23 December 2009 8:56 AM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

When Tarantino first burst on to the scene, he quickly became renowned as a director who could reinvigorate a career. It began with John Travolta in Pulp Fiction, then there was Robert Forester in Jackie Brown, and, briefly, David Carradine in Kill Bill. Now following the release and incredible success of Inglourious Basterds, Tarantino isn't exactly reinventing careers, but he's giving them a hell of a boost. By way of their Facebook account (kind of an esoteric place to post an announcement like this), Hopscotch Films has announced that they will be distributing David Cronenberg's next film, The Talking Cure, and that it has lined up its three stars: Christoph Waltz, Michael Fassbender and Keira Knightley. Based on the play of the same name by Christopher Hampton, the story centers on the birth of psychoanalysis and the relationship between Carl Jung, Sigmund Freud and Jung's young Russian patient whom »

Box Office

We all knew that it was going to happen – James Cameron’s Avatar snagged the top spot at the box office and banked a heavy $73 million. The gross is impressive considering that the weather in North America was terrible over the weekend. Factoring in foreign grosses the film has now scored over $232 million – if the legs are good, this could be Cameron’s second billion dollar grosser.

The Princess and the Frog had to settle for the runner-up spot. The film dipped just under 50% for a $12.5 million total. The total gross for the Disney film is now $44 million, with $100 million still an option.

America’s Sweetheart Sandra Bullock was in the third spot with The Blind Side. »

Inside Story: How Celebs Thwart Their Blackmailers

In an industry where privacy is hard to come by, celebrities prefer to keep their dirty laundry behind closed doors. Disney Puts 'Wild Hogs 2' Back in the Garage

19 December 2009 2:40 PM, PST | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

Disney's Rich Ross can not be described as a yes man in his short tenure as the studio's new chairman. Since taking the reins in October, Ross has already restructured the company's expansive marketing (which might explain why I don't get as many free DVDs, huffed the writer), and he pulled the plug on a major project, McG's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo, favoring instead a remake of the studio's The Black Hole.

Last weekend, we wrote that Ross swung the ax at a new Robin Williams-Diane Keaton comedy in the wake of slow performance by Old Dogs. But there's someone else in Old Dogs, and now John Travolta has lost his next PG-rated comedy at the studio.

In an unexpected move, Ross has canceled the sequel to one of Disney's most successful start-ups in the past five years, the Travolta buddy pic Wild Hogs. While that movie wasn't good, »

El Guapo Presents The Top Ten Worst Movies Of 2009!

Top Ten Worst Movies of 2009 **Disclaimer** This list is for entertainment purposes only. No studio is safe. No actor is safe. No movie is safe! You have been warned. What's more fun to read, the best movies of the year, or the crappiest movies of the year? I know as a writer, I Love listing the worst movies of the year. And 2009 had some pretty big stinkers. From failed comedies, (what a shock that a Kate Hudson movie would make the list two years in a row) to failed action flicks to unwatchable "arthouse", 2009 served up a big ol plate of dog crap. So sit back, relax and see if you agree with any of my choices. Yes, I'm well aware that there are 500 million movies out there that went straight to DVD. I'm only listing theatrical releases. I'm sure there are plenty of films I've missed or just didn't see. »

Wild Hogs Won't Ride Again - Disney Stops Wild Hogs 2

18 December 2009 9:55 AM, PST | movies.about.com | See recent About.com Hollywood Movies news »

Bad news comes in threes, but I'm not totally convinced the latest cancellation on Disney's theatrical release schedule is actually bad news. It all depends on your fondness for John Travolta, William H Macy, Tim Allen and Martin Lawrence in leather on hogs. If you're a fan of Wild Hogs, then news that Disney's put an end to Wild Hogs 2: Bachelor Ride might dampen your holiday spirit a wee bit.

Disney has in fact decided to put the hogs out to pasture, at least for now. The cancellation of Wild Hogs 2 comes on the heels of news that Disney honcho Rich Ross has also opted not to move forward on the Robin Williams/Anna Faris comedy Wedding Banned. Williams and Wild Hogs star Travolta starred in Disney's Old Dogs, which hit theaters on November 25th to a less than enthusiastic response. Critics didn't like it and audiences didn't buy »

Disney Puts the Brakes on 'Wild Hogs' Sequel

17 December 2009 9:15 PM, PST | CinemaSpy | See recent CinemaSpy news »

Walt Disney Pictures new head, Richard Ross, has been making some pretty abrupt project development changes at the studio recently, including a suspension of both McG's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and Robin Williams' comedy Wedding Banned. Now, according to Variety, the latest project that's been halted is a follow-up to 2007's Wild Hogs.

Brad Copeland, who wrote the original film, had already drafted the script for the sequel, and new writers were in the process of being hired to take over. Moreover, discussions had already commenced with the stars of the first film, John Travolta, Martin Lawrence, William H. Macy and Tim Allen, but since no monetary contractual obligations had been established, Ross decided to leave well enough alone and kill the project.

No explanation has been offered, surprising, given that the first Wild Hogs earned $250M globally at the box office. Speculation has ensued that it may have »
