Horror seems to be making a comeback with a new wave of films now receiving both critical acclaim, as well as financial success at the box office. Just by attaching the names of writer/director James Wan or Production Company Blumhouse, seems to have enough momentum to make it a box office hit. So with the public now paying to get scared again, here are the top five horror films worth looking out for in 2017.
Death House (Release Date: Tbc)
With jump scare film franchises like The Conjuring (2013-2016) and Insidious (2010 -2018) dominating at the box office, it will take something special to change the trend, but that is something Death House is looking to initiate.
Based on an original concept by Gunnar Hansen to bring the icons of horror together the cast reflects his vision perfectly; and for any icons not featured in the original, 5 sequels are already planned for the franchise. »

Back in January, Cult of Chucky, Universal 1440's highly-anticipated horror sequel, started production, with director Don Mancini and star Jennifer Tilly sharing the first set photos. Now that the film is in post-production, the wait for the first trailer begins. But before the first footage drops, writer-director Don Mancini descended upon the Monsterpalooza convention in Pasadena, California this weekend, where he shed some new light on this sequel. During his convention appearance, the director made quite the bold statement, revealing that this will be the goriest Chucky movie ever.
"The gore effects in this movie, this is definitly the goriest of all of the movies. [This] wasn't something [we] set out to do, it just sort of turned out that way."
Don Mancini was joined by Jennifer Tilly, Fiona Dourif and animatronic effects supervisor Tony Gardner at the convention, with the director revealing that the story picks up directly after 2013's Curse of Chucky. »

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again: Seed of Chucky is the best Child’s Play movie by John Waters that he never directed. And to me, it’s probably the most underappreciated entry in the entire series, because if you take a moment to look at what Don Mancini did with this 2004 sequel, you’ll realize it’s a brilliant celebration of B-movies that also cleverly mixes up the Child’s Play franchise formula once again.
Seed of Chucky picks up after the events of Bride of Chucky, addressing the deaths of both Chucky (voiced by Brad Dourif) and Tiffany (voiced by Jennifer Tilly), and the birth of their unlikely progeny, who was rescued from the graveyard by a ventriloquist named Psychs (Keith-Lee Castle) and now works as a dummy named “Shitface” (voiced by Billy Boyd). One night, Tiffany and Chucky’s offspring sees what »

I’m a huge fan of the Child’s Play franchise, I have been since I was a teenager, before everyone jumped on the bandwagon back in the early 90s when Child’s Play 3 was decried as a new “video nasty” here in the UK. Since then we’ve had two more comedic entries, Bride… and Seed…, and then 2013′s Curse of Chucky which saw Brad Dourif’s daughter Fiona take the lead in a film that brought the terror back to the Good Guy doll.
Now, thanks to EW, we have info on the latest film in the series, a teaser featuring clips from the series, and a title: Cult of Chucky. A film that not only sees Fiona Dourif returning as Nica, the heroine of the previous film; but also Alex Vincent, as Andy Barclay – Chucky’s original nemesis who popped up [spoilers] at the end of Curse of Chucky. »

Six films and nearly 30 years later, Chucky is still going strong — so strong, in fact, that the “Child’s Play” movies aren’t even called that anymore. This year’s upcoming “Cult of Chucky” is the fourth consecutive film in the horror franchise to drop the original title entirely, and a new trailer for it works as a reminder of the killer doll’s murderous exploits. Watch it below.
