Val Kilmer Gave Some Amazing Fanboy Answers in His Reddit Ama — Read the Highlights

11 hours ago | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Actor, artist and noted Cate Blanchett enthusiast Val Kilmer did a Reddit Ama in which he proved, once and for all, stars: they’re just like us. To promote “Cinema Twain,” the feature version of his one-man stage show “Citizen Twain” (get the reference?), Kilmer answered some fan questions and absolutely delivered — mostly because, as it turns out, Val Kilmer is nothing but a huge, endearingly earnest fanboy.

Here are some of the best answers he gave:

When asked about the experience of working on “Heat,” Kilmer gave just about the greatest response anyone could have hoped for: “Well imagine being able to say, ‘Al and Bob’ for the rest of your life. Not many people can do that. I have seen Bob, giggling like a school girl in a van in the middle of the night, »

Strike Watch: How Hollywood Labor Strife Would Affect Your Favorite TV Shows

29 April 2017 11:58 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

The WGA’s master contract with Hollywood’s major studios is set to expire at midnight on Monday. If no new agreement is in place, striking writers could be marching with picket signs the next morning — instead of writing TV shows.

A writers strike would not mean that all television would suddenly be thrust into reruns. But some effects would be immediate, and a lengthy walkout could have a huge impact across the dial.

Late-night

Late-night, where writers’ rooms are open year-round, would be the first television sector affected. “The Tonight Show,” “The Late Show,” “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” “Conan,” and “The Daily Show” would go dark immediately — though they might not stay dark for long. David Letterman, whose Worldwide Pants production company owned “Late Show” and “Late Late Show” a decade ago — cut a separate deal with the WGA that allowed him and Craig Ferguson to return to the air during the 2007-08 strike with their writing »

Netflix Targets Emmy Voters With 24,000-Square-Foot ‘Experiential’ Space in L.A.

28 April 2017 11:09 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Netflix is trying to boost its chances of racking up Emmy Awards this year by inviting voters to a special, month-long immersive exhibition space in Beverly Hills.

The streamer’s “FYSee” — in a new kind of for-your-consideration stunt — will be a multilevel, 24,000-square-foot space. It will launch Sunday, May 7, with a private kick-off party. On Monday, May 8, Netflix will host a conversation with Kevin Spacey about the company’s first big original series, “House of Cards.” Season 5 of “Hoc” is set to debut May 30 on the service.

FYSee will be located somewhere in Beverly Hills; Netflix isn’t publicly disclosing the exact whereabouts. The space will be open by invitation only for industry professionals.

The company will keep FYSee for a full month. Netflix says it’s anchored by programming and storytelling installations for contenders such as “The Crown” (which won two Golden Globes) and “Stranger Things” (which won the SAG ensemble prize for drama series, among »

F. Gary Gray's Furious Tendencies

A Man ApartIn October 2016, Vin Diesel revealed that the director of The Fate of the Furious, the eighth installment in the multi-billion dollar series of films, would be none other than F. Gary Gray. To those familiar with his work, it seemed like a natural fit. Gray has worked in Hollywood for over twenty years and is one of the most financially successful black directors in history. Coming off of the massive success of Straight Outta Compton (his second film to gross over $100 million dollars at the domestic box office, after 2003’s The Italian Job), Gray seemed like the ideal choice for the latest Fast and Furious installment, where he could return to his cinematic trademarks: guns, heists, fast cars and racially diverse ensembles.  These elements were staples of Gray’s work even before his first feature in 1995. Gray, a South Central Los Angeles native, began as a cameraman for Bet and Fox, »

Shonda Rhimes Secrets: The ‘Scandal’ Producer On How Not To Get Fired From a Writers’ Room

25 April 2017 8:50 AM, PDT | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

For an aspiring TV scribe, landing the first writing gig is a feat. Holding on to that job is a triumph.

Shonda Rhimes has some advice for novice writers on how not to get fired: Make some noise around the table, so that you have an immediate impact in the room. The secret seems obvious, but Rhimes told IndieWire that it’s surprising how many newbies clam up and immediately limit their careers.

“I think everybody feels like their goal in their job is to sit quietly in the corner and watch things happen,” Rhimes said. “And that is the most deadly mistake you can make. That is exactly how you get fired. The most silent person in the writers room is usually the first fired person in the writers room. Because people start to either think that the person is stupid or creepy or honestly doesn’t have anything to say. »

President Underwood and his First Lady have a mission, and woe to those who get in their way.

When last we left “House of Cards,” Frank (Kevin Spacey) and Claire (Robin Wright) were by each other’s side in their mission to combat terrorism, specifically the radical Islamist group known as the Islamic Caliphate Organization (Ico), which had broadcast an execution of a hostage.

“That’s right. We don’t submit to terror. We make the terror,” Frank said with his disturbingly unwavering yet charismatic gaze into the camera.

Of course, this war on terror is a noisy, splashy diversion from an incriminating article that laid out the president’s corruption. How successful they are remains to be seen, but we have a feeling that no matter what, they’ll be fine in Season 5. In an interview with EW, »
