Will Smith in talks for Ang Lee’s Gemini Man

26 April 2017 11:58 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Will Smith is currently in negotiations to star in Ang Lee’s new film Gemini Man, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

We learned late last week that Ang Lee was in talks to helm the assassin film – a movie that has been in development hell for 20 years. And now news is breaking that Will Smith is being tapped to play the film’s lead.

The film, which is being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, would tell the story of an aging assassin who finds himself in confrontation with his ultimate foe, his own clone – who also happens to be 25 years younger.

Originally set up at Disney in 1997, Gemini Man was deemed unfilmable because of the visual effects required to shoot the incredibly high concept script. Tony Scott was originally attached to direct, with Harrison Ford and Chris O’Donnell playing the clones.

But now with the advances in technology, and the »

Will Smith To Battle His Younger Clone In Ang Lee’s ‘Gemini Man’

26 April 2017 6:30 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

When he’s not being a renowned cinephile who’ll spend most of May on the Cannes jury debating the merits of the new Andrey Zvyagintsev with Alain Resnais’ muse Agnès Jaoui, Will Smith is also a movie star. But the man who was once the unquestionable box-office king of Hollywood has had an atypically rough patch lately.

Suicide Squad” was a rare bright spot last year — indeed, his second-biggest-grossing movie worldwide after “Independence Day.” But it was also an ensemble superhero movie that got lousy reviews, so it doesn’t entirely recover the star’s luster, especially with a string of flops — “After Earth,” “Focus,” “Concussion,” “Collateral Beauty” — and with his go-to franchises of “Men In Black” and “Bad Boys” either rebooting away from him, or floundering in development hell.

Gemini Man to set Will Smith against Will Smith

Don Kaye Apr 27, 2017

Will Smith is in talks to star in a cloning thriller from director Ang Lee.

Will Smith has fought aliens, zombies, drug lords and all kinds of other villains on the big screen, but he's never battled himself...until now. According to The Tracking Board, Smith is in talks to star in Gemini Man, with director Ang Lee (Life of Pi) behind the camera.

The movie will find Smith playing an ageing assassin who ends up fighting a younger, faster, stronger clone of himself. The script has been circulating in Hollywood for some 20 years, originally starting out as a Disney project and at one time or another attracting stars like Harrison Ford, Clint Eastwood and Mel Gibson

The film was eventually abandoned back then because the visual effects technology was not where it needed to be. That's certainly changed in the intervening two decades, and the Skydance »
