Votd: Back To The Future Part 1 & 2 Scene Comparison

29 December 2010 12:00 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

[1] Back to the Future: Part II opens with the ending scene from the first movie. But anyone who has seen the movie more than once will know that the sequence was completely reshot. I'm sure there are a multitude of reasons why they didn't just use the same footage, including the fact that Claudia Wells, who played Marty McFly's girlfriend Jennifer Parker in the original film, had been recast with 1980's movie hottie Elizabeth Shue. Also, the movie was shot nearly five years later, so they probably wanted Marty and Doc's appearances to seem consistant with the rest of the film. But even then, they needed to try to make the reshot sequence look almost exactly the same as what was shown in the original film. The "a rejuvenation clinic" excuse Doc gives Marty once they arrive in 2015 was likely a excuse to get rid of the old man »

Back to Basics with 'The Invisible Man'

9 November 2010 3:45 PM, PST | Planet Fury | See recent Planet Fury news »

By 1933, Universal Studios had become a veritable fear factory, thanks to the efforts of production head Carl Laemmle Jr. After the amazing profits earned from Dracula, Frankenstein and The Mummy, he was eager to find Universal's next horror property, and fast.

Carl Junior had been trying to get a Frankenstein sequel off the ground, but director James Whale, who had been so instrumental to the original film's success, had been resistant to the idea. Whale was a true artist who did not like to repeat himself, so the idea of a sequel was distasteful at best, even if it was guaranteed to be a hit.

In an effort to mollify Carl Junior and satisfy his desire for something in the realm of the fantastic, Whale expressed interest in filming The Invisible Man, based on H. G. Wells' 1897 sci-fi novella. It presented some special challenges and was just different enough from »

Top Ten 3D Horror Flicks!

28 October 2010 1:21 PM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Can it be true? Is the final Saw really upon us? Hard to believe James Wan’s little indie nasty resonated with audiences six years back in a way large enough to spawn six freakin’ sequels. And what’s more surprising is that Jigsaw waited until the very end of his October reign to cash in on the trendy 3D craze that’s been putting the hurt on our wallets the last few years.

With Saw 3D’s release quickly approaching, there’s perhaps no better time to reflect on the genre’s most successful (or, in some cases, most baffling) forays into all three dimensions. Of course we’re going to cover all of the mainstays, but this list wouldn’t be worth much if we didn’t pull the curtain back on some of the truly bizarre offerings that somehow found their way to dimly lit screens all over the world. »

In Defense of "Back to the Future Part II"

27 October 2010 12:12 AM, PDT | ifc.com | See recent IFC news »

"Back to the Future Part II" is one of the best sequels ever made about sequels. The movie has a poor reputation amongst those who see it as a pale imitation of the original film. What those critics fail to realize is that the film itself acknowledges that inferiority, and the inherent inferiority of all sequels, within its rather brilliant construction. It's a movie about overcompensating as much as it is a movie about time travel.

Though released four years after the first "Back to the Future," "Part II" picks up exactly where the first film left off. Time travel inventor and DeLorean enthusiast Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) and Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) travel to the year 2015 with Marty's girlfriend Jennifer (Elisabeth Shue) to prevent Marty's son from participating in a bank robbery. While there, Marty finds an almanac that lists every sports score from the second half of »

Blu-ray Review: Back to the Future: 25th Anniversary Trilogy

25 October 2010 3:40 PM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Back to the Future: 25th Anniversary Trilogy Quick Thoughts: It's been 25 years since Back to the Future hit theaters and I was only eight years old when it did. Surprisingly, I can still vaguely remember how cool I thought it was and how amazed I was when Doc Brown's DeLorean flew directly into the screen at the very end. I was even enamored with Back to the Future Part II four years later and Part III was even better the following year. Of course, since that time I've grown up, but still, parts I and III remain personal favorites with the first one recently listed at #2 on my Top Ten Time Travel Movies list. However, the second one is almost unwatchable at this point for me. It just isn't a good movie. Thankfully the western aspect of Part III is so well done, with all of the characters from »

Piranha 3D Coming Home in January?

25 October 2010 12:56 PM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

We said it before, and we'll say it again. Piranha 3D was the most fun we had in theatres in years. It was everything we wanted ... violent, sexy, and deliciously sleazy. It was so good in fact that Condit, Debi, and I stayed in the theatre for back-to-back screenings. We just couldn't help ourselves. Now the flick is coming home.

While no official press release has come yet, Amazon is listing the release date for both the DVD and Blu-ray as January 11, 2011, from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, who also handled Dimension's home video release of Rob Zombie's Halloween II. Look for official word and specs soon.

Synopsis

Jaws... lots and lots of jaws. From acclaimed director Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes) comes the new action thriller Piranha 3D, in the latest eye-popping 3D technology. A new type of terror is about to be cut loose on beautiful Lake Victoria. »

Piranha Remake on Blu-ray 3D in January?

19 October 2010 8:22 AM, PDT | TheHDRoom | See recent TheHDRoom news »

Alejandre Aja's schlocky remake of Piranha in 3D starring Elisabeth Shue and Jerry O'Connell looks to be swimming onto Blu-ray 3D on January 11, 2011 according to new Amazon.com pre-order listings.

I've spotted two Blu-ray pre-order listings for Piranha 3D which are identical save for a $5 difference in Srp price. The higher priced listing could potentially be for Blu-ray 3D and the lower a more standard 2D Blu-ray release. Or, Amazon could have inadvertently listed the title twice and there will be no Blu-ray 3D version yet. We won't know for sure unless the listings are updated or distributor Sony Pictures Home Entertainment makes an official announcement.

Here's the higher price ($39.95) listing and the lower price ($34.95)listing for Piranha 3D. »

There's been no dearth of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" posters on the Internet the past couple of weeks, but it has been a spell since Potterheads were treated to new video from the film. Enter the 2010 Scream Awards.

MTV News has learned exclusively that a brand-spanking-new sneak peek at "Deathly Hallows: Part 1" will debut during the show, which celebrates the best of sci-fi, fantasy, comics and horror and airs October 19 on Spike. In case you were wondering, the answer is "yes." Yes, the peek will feature some never-before-seen footage from the film, which hits theaters November 19.
