NEW YORK -- The Sundance Film Festival announced its New Frontier multimedia, live performance and panel discussion lineup and an added world premiere for the main fest: Andrew Fleming's comedy Hamlet 2.

Hamlet 2, starring Steve Coogan, Catherine Keener, Amy Poehler and David Arquette and which has no domestic distributor, premieres Jan. 21 out of competition in the Premieres slate. It stars Coogan as a high school drama teacher who creates a musical sequel to Hamlet based on the premise that no one died in the original play. Elisabeth Shue and Melonie Diaz round out the ensemble cast.

This year's seven New Frontier features are art-inspired films that use new narrative structures. Screenings include James Benning's art sculpture study "casting a glance," Michelange Quay's look at Hatian politics Eat, For This is My Body, Jennifer Phang's family drama Half-Life and Mia Trachinger's genetic mutation love story Reversion.

5 November 2007 | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

Frances Conroy, Taryn Manning and Will Patton have boarded the psychological thriller Waking Madison.

They join Elisabeth Shue and Disturbia's Sarah Roemer, who already have been cast in the indie film written by Katherine Brooks, who also is directing.

Madison tells the story of a woman (Roemer) who, after trying all traditional means to cure her mental illness, locks herself in her apartment for 30 days with no food, telephone or outside stimuli.

Conroy will play Dolly, Madison's mother and a religious zealot who has her own mental-health issues.

Manning plays Margaret, a fellow patient with sociopathic tendencies who resides at the psychiatric hospital with Madison. Patton plays Madison's loving but emotionally absent father.

The film is a joint production between Annapurna Prods. and Fixed Point Films. Megan Ellison, Jonah Hirsch and Ted Schipper are producing.

Shooting is set to begin today in New Orleans.

Conroy, whose credits include Shopgirl, Broken Flowers and HBO's long-running Six Feet Under, is repped by ICM.

Manning's credits include Hustle & Flow and A Lot Like Love. »

10 April 2007 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Leaving Las Vegas star Elisabeth Shue is in training to become a professional tennis player. The Oscar-nominated actress admits she has always been pretty good at the sport and now she's working on a second career on the courts of America. She explains, "It's always been a dream of mine. I don't think I'll be playing at the (tennis tournament) US Open, but, by September, I'd like to be competing professionally, even at the lowest level. I've been training so hard, now I feel like more of a tennis player than an actress." »
