Felicity Jones (l.) takes it to the Alps in Chalet Girl.

Adorable Felicity Jones (The Tempest) stars in the snowy 2011 romantic comedy film Chalet Girl.

Reminiscent of a female Aspen Extreme, the movie stars Jones as pretty tomboy Kim, a one-time champion skateboarder who now flips burgers to support herself and her dad. Opportunity comes knocking when she lands a winter-long catering job in a plush ski chalet in the Austrian Alps.

At first, Kim is overwhelmed by this bizarre new world of champagne-sipping posh people, epic mountains and waist-deep powder. But then she discovers snowboarding, and her natural talent soon sees her training for the end-of-season competition, which could win her major prize money and maybe even the affections of her boss’ handsome son Jonny (Ed Westwick, TV’s Gossip Girl).

Katie Holmes needs a fierce, kick-butt fitness routine to keep up with her action-loving hubby, Tom Cruise.

Tom Cruise/Mission: Impossible 4 Outstanding Average, Robert Pattinson/Kristen Stewart/Breaking Dawn Modest Drop

Simon Pegg as Benji Dunn, Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt, Mission: Impossible IV – Ghost Protocol

Guy Ritchie/Robert Downey Jr/Jude Law/Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows Underwhelms: Box Office

The silver lining at the North American box office this weekend is the Brad Bird/Tom Cruise $140 million-budgeted combo Mission: Impossible IV – Ghost Protocol, which has raked in an impressive, IMAX-boosted $4.6 million — including $1m from Thursday midnight showings — at only 425 locations (300 of which IMAX theaters). As per The Hollywood Reporter, Ghost Protocol should bring in $12 million by Sunday evening. If so, that would represent an outstanding, even considering the IMAX surcharges, $28,400 per-theater average.

For comparison's sake, Mission: Impossible III earned $47.74 million at 4,054 theaters in July 2006 (approx. $58 million today), averaging $11,776 per site (approx. $14,000 today). At a little more than one tenth of the number of theaters, Ghost Protocol is expected to take in more than one fifth of the inflation-adjusted gross of its predecessor. »

Tom Cruise/Ghost Protocol Opens Strongly, Robert Downey Jr/A Game Of Shadows Subdued: Box Office

16 December 2011 6:02 PM, PST | Alt Film Guide | See recent Alt Film Guide news »

Tom Cruise, Mission: Impossible IV – Ghost Protocol

The North American box office is in the doldrums. Receipts last weekend were the lowest since September 2008 (unadjusted for inflation), while attendance figures — if reports are to be believed — are at their lowest since September 2001, in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington. (Note: those attendance comparisons are iffier than usual, as they're using 3D-inflated 2011 movie-ticket price averages to compare with basically 3D-less pre-2009 averages — when last weekend's top three movies, Garry Marshall/Zac Efron/Michelle Pfeiffer/etc.'s New Year's Eve, Jonah Hill's The Sitter, and Bill Condon/Robert Pattinson/Kristen Stewart/Taylor Lautner's The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 were all in "2D.")

Anyhow, Guy Ritchie/Robert Downey Jr's Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, Brad Bird/Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible IV – Ghost Protocol, and Mike Mitchell's animated feature Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chip-Wrecked »

'The Blue Lagoon' Getting A Remake On Lifetime

9 December 2011 12:39 PM, PST | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

"A story of natural love," the poster for the 1980 film "The Blue Lagoon" proclaimed, hoping to deflect from the fact that the movie was essentially an excuse to get a teenage Brooke Shields to take off her clothes (though yes, body doubles were used too). That sensual story was told again in "Return To The Blue Lagoon" a PG-13 movie that still managed to get a 15 year old Milla Jovovich to disrobe. We'll pause while you pervs go to Netflix. Anyway, long story short, Deadline reports that Lifetime of all places, is plotting a remake. Weird, right? But apparently this thing has been in the works since 2004 and is now gearing up to shoot in February in Puerto Rico. Not word yet on what young, nubile, up-and-coming teen is going to get to get ogled, but it seems they need to find a director first. Just a couple of months to go there, »

Lifetime has given the green light to a contemporary telemovie remake of the classic 1980 romance/adventure "The Blue Lagoon" at Storyline Entertainment and Peace Out Productions reports Deadline.

The Randal Kleiser-directed original follows two Victorian-era cousins (Christopher Atkins, Brooke Shields) who become shipwrecked and marooned on a tropical island in the South Pacific along with a galley cook (Leo McKern).

After the cook dies the two children grow up together, fall in love and discover sexuality as they survive solely on their resourcefulness.

A sequel was released in 1991 starring Milla Jovovich, while Henry De Vere Stacpoole's original novel was first adapted in 1949 and starred Jean Simmons. Casting on the new 'Lagoon' is already underway with shooting to kick off in Puerto Rico in February.

Legendary Casting Director Dougherty Dies

6 December 2011 12:06 AM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

The casting director who helped launch the careers of Warren Beatty, James Dean, Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman has passed away.

Marion Dougherty died in New York from natural causes on Sunday. She was 88.

The legendary casting director helped Hollywood abandon its system of stock casting by choosing more individual performers for certain parts.

She started out as an uncredited casting agent for Kraft Television Theatre, and helped start the careers of Dean and Hoffman on TV dramas.

Dougherty moved to Hollywood in the 1970s and later took on a role at Warner Bros. She stayed with the company for three decades and discovered the likes of Glenn Close, Diane Lane, Danny Glover, Matthew McConaughey and Brooke Shields.

Among the legendary films she cast were Escape From Alcatraz, The Killing Fields, Gorillas in the Mist, Batman and the Lethal Weapon series. »

Privates on Parade: Actors Who Let It All Hang Out on Film

When AfterElton asked me if I'd be interested in doing a story on full-frontal male nudity in the movies, I said, “Interested? I've been researching it since I was 12!” What prompted the idea is of course the film Shame, which stars Michael Fassbender as a man addicted to sex. When the film debuted at the Venice Film Festival earlier this year it set off a shockwave because of its sexual explicitness, including a much-discussed full-frontal reveal by Fassbender. Add to that the recent flurry of attention that stills of Jonathan Groff's nude scene in Twelve Thirty hitting the Internet generated, and it seems like these days cinema penises are a trending topic.

Everyone from film critics to Freudian analysts to gender theorists has written about male nudity in film. And sorting through the pronouncements on the male gaze and Lacanian mirrors and power inequities between the sexes in Hollywood »

Shields Wants Another Baby

4 December 2011 5:31 PM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Actress Brooke Shields is considering boosting her brood via adoption, because her husband isn't interested in adding another child to their family.

Shields and screenwriter Chris Henchy have two daughters, Rowan and Grier, and the actress is desperate to be a mother for a third time.

She tells Eonline.com, "I would die for one (baby). Unfortunately, my husband is not as amenable. So I either have to trick him or lie to him to get knocked up.

"He said to me the other day, 'I'm beginning to think that if I don't give this to you, you'll do it on your own.' It's like, 'Don't test me. I'm very independent.' But I'm older so my eggs probably need a chisel.

"Maybe I should wait and then adopt. We have a lovely home and life and I want to be able to share it with a big family. But maybe it's supposed to be done in a different way, an altruistic way." »

When You Think Of Michael Jackson, What Do You Remember?

3 December 2011 8:08 AM, PST | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Michael Jackson is many things to many people. Music maestro, misunderstood, molester - they've all been bandied around. Now, as Dr Conrad Murray files an appeal in a bid to avoid time behind bars for his part in the superstar's death, it seems the dogs are still barking, the circus has not moved on. And I wonder which one of these epithets will prove to be the most enduring.

Creative singlemindedness

Of all the adjectives thrown at him, Jackson was actually musical the longest, since the time his cherubic face first beamed out from the line-up with his brothers. From the outset it was clear that, from the Jackson 5, there would emerge a Michael One - the feet just slightly faster, the voice already distinctive, the charisma to bottle.

Even while audiences jived to I Want You Back and ABC, the seeds of future unrest were being sown. We later heard that, »

I am a chocoholic. There, I said it! I Love the stuff. No time is better than the holidays for chocolate...it's great for gifts and special occasions like holiday parties.

"Be adventurous," advises Katrina Markoff, owner and chocolatier of Vosges Haut-Chocolat, a fave of Kelly Ripa, Brooke Shields and Susan Sarandon. "People love a culinary experience so don't stick to the tried and true milk, dark or white chocolate. Choose chocolate flavors that tell a story through their ingredients. Beautiful packaging plus beautiful chocolate is always a win-win hostess gift. A beautiful gift and instant dessert course."

Fonda Gave Shields Her First Horse

17 November 2011 5:31 PM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Brooke Shields has magical memories of her 1979 movie Wanda Nevada because her director and co-star Peter Fonda gave her the horse she fell for on the set as a wrap gift.

The actress, who played the title role in the film, admits the "little filly" that she rode to and from the set as a child star was her first horse.

She tells WENN, "We were in Arizona and had to have horses and mules in the Grand Canyon. There was this sweet little filly and she basically failed racing school because she would trot forever and never break into a cantor and only go one way.

"You would sing the racing start chant and she would just take off, so she was never a very prized member of the stable and they sold her.

"Peter knew how much I loved horses and so he bought her and gave her to me for my movie gift."

Oddly, Shields is now allergic to horses - something that became a problem while she was shooting her new film The Greening of Whitney Brown, in which she co-stars with a mare.

She adds, "For this movie they were patting me down with wet towels every time I went near the horse because I was just one big hive." »

Can Albert wrest control of "Survivor: South Pacific" away from the Cult of Coach?

Post Tribal

Over at Redemption, Jim, Ozzy and Keith are not pleased to be sitting where they are sitting. Jim calls it the Cult of Coach. Meanwhile, Coach is pumping up his "family" and saying guys like Jim are dangerous. So maybe Jim is not so far off. Heh.

The next morning, the cult talk continues with Cochran and drinking the Coach Kool-Aid. Coach confides to Cochran that he's nervous about being blindsided by Albert.

Redemption Island

It's a strength/balance challenge and the two who lose are the first two jury members, the winner stays on Redemption. Jim is out after 10 minutes or so. Keith starts to slip and then drops, so Ozzy is still on Redemption. Jeff is happy to point out his man-crush Ozzy didn't have any support with the tribe members still in the game. »
