Always more content when punching dreadlocked aliens, physical manifestations of the antichrist and pretty much everyone to death than when using ‘ideas’, ‘rhetoric’ and ‘any semblance of intelligence’ to get things done, it did indeed seem strange when Arnie was elected Governor of California in 2003. After slowly departing into his tenure in politics through a slew of tired and mechanically deficient star vehicles (ending with the competent tedium of Terminator 3) he disappeared from our screens almost completely. For eight years he subsisted upon minor roles, meagre cameos and his estimated $200 million fortune until his political career ended and his personal life collapsed amongst allegations of extra-marital affairs and children.
But today, no longer wanted by the government, Arnie looks once again to survive as soldier of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find him, maybe you can hire: Arnold Schwarzenegger. »

Director Uwe Boll is no stranger to video games or controversy but remains indefatigable and is back next week with In the Name of the King: Two Worlds, his sequel to the 2006 film he made based on the Dungeon Siege video games. The new film, his twenty-fifth, stars action hero Dolph Lundgren and is a direct-to-video release from Twentieth Century Home Entertainment.
The German –born Boll spoke exclusively with ComicMix to talk about the film and his approach, which ignores his critics, many of whom cite him as the worst director working today. In turn, Boll has challenged them to box, to see who is the better person but our conversation was far from combative.
ComicMix: This is your first sole directorial work. Any reason why?
Uwe Boll: In the past, I was more a producer, such as with Alone in the Dark. Normally I’m the director, producer, »

For fans of straight to DVD action movies like myself, Maximum Conviction – which has just been picked up for Us distribution by Anchor Bay – sounds like a match made in heaven. Former hard-hitting, and now heavy-hitting martial arts megastar Steven Seagal has teamed up with former WWE Superstar “Stone Cold” Steve Austin in the film which comes from director Keoni Waxman.
The film sees the action duo as private security contractors decommissioning an old prison. When two mysterious female prisoners are forced to stay there one night, the facility comes under siege by a force of mercenaries, with our heroes forced to stand against the mercenaries and find out the reason for the assault.
I for one shall be snapping Maximum Conviction up when it hits Blu-ray next year! »

Jimmy Fallon took the reins of Saturday Night Live this week, and with a team of special guests — Jude Law, Rachel Dratch, Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, Tracy Morgan, Chris Kattan, and Horatio Sanz among them — delivered a fun, funny episode in which even the jokes that didn’t work were buoyed by an innate zaniness and a willingness to try something fresh and unexpected. Here are my picks for the night’s best — hard to narrow it to just two — and worst sketches:

With Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol coming out with minimal buzz and a 49 year-old Tom Cruise, it got me wondering about the modern action flick. During the 80’s we had a huge surge of action films with such actors like Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwartzenegger, and Sylvester Stallone just to name a few. As time progressed, studios lined up the next generation of men to fill the positions of the now aging stars. However, when the Vin Diesels, the Jason Stathams, and the Rock debuted their films, there wasn’t nearly as much interest today in action films as in the past. Today they don’t even have A-list status. As a result, studios have forced the old-gen actors to continue churning out less and less plausible action films in their 60s. So while it may seem like all we’re missing is the right star, »

She was the queen of the 1970s blaxploitation movies. But being a black woman in Hollywood hasn't been Pam Grier's toughest fight. She talks to Shahesta Shaitly about rape, cancer and finding peace with her horses in the country
Pam Grier has spent the morning grooming and feeding her beloved horses, drinking green tea and working on her farm in Denver, Colorado. "I grew up in an urban environment and on military bases, but now my life is based on this ranch. My nickname is Mother Earth these days!" she says, talking at high speed in a lilting accent that combines California and the South.
It comes as a surprise to find that the 1970s "Queen of Blaxploitation" – she starred in more than 20 films between 1971 and 1981 – now drives a John Deere tractor and spends her time rescuing and rehabilitating horses for a therapeutic riding programme. "I'm rural now, and love it, »

Next year’s full to bursting with exciting movies, so to help out a little, here’s our pick of 25 must-see movies out in 2012…
As 2011 draws to a close, one eye is inevitably on the treats that are lying ahead for 2012. With that in mind, we've got our line-up of, as things stands, the 25 films that are brightest on our radar.
Now, a couple of disclaimers.
There are films that haven't made the cut here simply because we don't know a fat lot about them yet, or at least not enough to get us fired up. Jack The Giant Killer, Rise Of The Guardians, Red Tails, Chronicle and Dark Shadows all fit into that category.
Plus there are the films that we suspect will turn out strongly, but what we've seen of them so far hasn't blown us away (Brave, Skyfall). Then there are the potential hidden gems (ParaNorman) we'll »

In his recent book Monsters In The Movies, John Landis talks about how movies are one of the few art forms in which even the bad examples can be enjoyed. The director of ‘American Werewolf In London’ and ‘The Blues Brothers’ further argued this notion with a recent interview with Tor.com.
“Movies have this unique power over books, music, or paintings. We’ll watch a bad movie. If we see a bad painting, we’ll not linger on it for hours at a time, we’ll walk way. But we don’t do that with movies. We’ll sit through them”
Landis is absolutely right, and it’s now increasingly common for awful movies to cultivate their own cult fanbases, as well as recognition for being some of the worst of all time.
In celebration of good-bad movies everywhere, here’s my personal pick of 10 of the most enjoyable bad movies ever made. »

All My Children alum William deVry has nabbed a recurring gig on Nikita.
The former daytime star — who was seen briefly on The CW spy thriller last week — tells ABC Soaps in Depth that his role is much more pivotal than it may have originally seemed.
“I’m playing a guardian [named Patrick Miller],” deVry revealed. “He’s the keeper of secrets and a very important pawn in the game of espionage… I’m doing all my own stunts, too: running, knife fights, gun shooting, and blowing ‘em up!” The actor is set to appear in at least six episodes of Nikita, which »
