Losing a part of my childhood: A Tribute to Bill Paxton

Tom Jolliffe pays tribute to Bill Paxton, who sadly passed away on Sunday…

The weekend in film was notable for two things. One was the Oscars. All the glitz, glamour and gaffes that came with that. A time of celebration for those fortunate enough to have been nominated in whichever category they were up for and utter delight for the winners (La La Land for about 8 seconds). However, alongside the handing out of the famous golden statue, there was another headline that caught the attention of film-goers around the world and that was the very sad and untimely passing of Bill Paxton.

If you’ve seen your share of films, particularly in the 80’s and 90’s, then chances are you’ve seen Bill Paxton. Predominantly a sturdy support player over the years, he proved reliable throughout a prolific career. To some though he was more than just a face you »

My favorite best picture Oscar winner: Titanic

23 February 2017 5:00 AM, PST | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

Continuing our series of Guardian writers’ all-time Academy picks, Kate Hutchinson makes her case for James Cameron’s blockbusting romance

On the surface, Titanic’s redeeming qualities may seem as barely visible as a giant iceberg lurking in the north Atlantic sea. Crummy dialogue. Celine Dion warbling about hearts going on. Leonardo DiCaprio’s fringe curtains. The infuriating probability that if Kate Winslet’s Rose had just squidged up a bit there would have definitely been room for two on that raft. James Cameron’s 1997 disasterpiece was, in many ways, dodgy like the ocean liner’s own detector system. It was a box office ripper and an Oscars guzzler, for sure, but was at the same time rubbished for being the most expensive chick flick ever made ($200m, long since eclipsed by other blockbusters). To some eyes it was merely a hypothermic romance schmaltzily clomped together by an action auteur »

Exclusive Interview: Joshua Williamson Discusses Frostbite And Ideas For A Sequel

22 February 2017 6:51 PM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Since last summer, Joshua Williamson has become a force to be reckoned with at DC. Odds are it probably has something to do with his stellar work on The Flash, which led to him getting the Justice League vs. Suicide Squad gig. But one of his projects that none should overlook is that of his recently concluded Vertigo miniseries, Frostbite.

Needless to say, it was indeed the scribe’s take on the Scarlet Speedster that instilled confidence in me to give his post-apocalyptic thriller a read and, much to my delight, it quickly became one of my favorite titles to be published by the mature imprint over the past year. Maybe I should’ve been paying better attention and noticed that it was a limited run as opposed to an ongoing, but you can imagine my sadness upon discovering the “of 6” in a Diamond listing a few months back. Yvonne Strahovski Sets Sights on The Predator

22 February 2017 12:10 PM, PST | DailyDead | See recent DailyDead news »

Following yesterday's news that Game of Thrones star Alfie Allen has joined the growing cast The Predator, another big name has now been linked to the Shane Black film.

According to THR, Yvonne Strahovski is in "final negotiations" to play the mother of Jacob Tremblay's character in The Predator. Tremblay's character is described as "a troubled boy who is accidentally drawn into the conflict with the fierce alien creatures" due to his mother's ex-husband, portrayed by Boyd Holbrook.

Should Strahovski's deal be finalized, she would join a cast that, in addition to the aforementioned Allen, Tremblay, and Holbrook, includes Sterling K. Brown, Olivia Munn, Keegan-Michael Key, and Thomas Jane, most of whom were featured in a cast photo unveiled by Black.

Strahovski starred as Sarah Walker in Chuck and played Hannah McKay in Dexter and Kate Morgan in 24: Live Another Day. She also portrays Serena Joy in Hulu's »

The Predator Sets Sights On Yvonne Strahovski

22 February 2017 11:22 AM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Yvonne Strahovski, star of NBC’s Chuck, has entered talks to join the cast of The Predator, Shane Black’s R-rated reboot that officially fired up production in Vancouver earlier in the week.

Negotiations are ongoing, according to THR, but assuming a deal sticks, Strahovski would join the likes of Boyd HolbrookJacob Tremblay, Keegan-Michael Key, Moonlight‘s Trevante Rhodes, Thomas Jane, Game of Thrones star Alfie Allen, Olivia Munn and definitely not Arnold Schwarzenegger – shoehorning his Dutch into the plot would only take audiences out of the experience, according to Holbrook.

In more positive news, the Logan star has hinted that Shane Black is rustling up something “totally different” with The Predator, as the illustrious writer-director looks to relocate the iconic alien onto the streets of suburbia. It’ll feature multiple extraterrestrials, too, leading Holbrook’s Special Forces commando Quinn McKenna to rally »

As Shane Black prepares his Vancouver shoot of The Predator, he’s just made another addition to the cast of the reboot. Game of ThronesAlfie Allen, who plays Theon Greyjoy in the series, has been cast as an ex-Marine helping the main group in their attempt to kill the Predator.

Earlier this week, Black released a picture of himself with the cast in full costume, but with Allen’s casting there could possibly be more to follow.

Not much else is known about The Predator other than Black’s confirmation the film will indeed be rated R and seems to be a full-on reboot rather than a sequel to the original 1987 Predator film.
